Default When would you tell?

Ok so I am currently off work on mat leave. I received 12 weeks full pay, then 9 months unpaid, so I will have been off work for 12 months upon my return.

I'm scheduled to return to work around Australia Day.

Around Australia Day I will be about 16 weeks pregnant with number 2.

Why am I going back at all you might ask? Well we need the money, TBH!

I'm going in to see my new manager (roles changed shortly before I left) next week and I'm wondering what I should do. It is far too early to tell her now (I am only 6wks), but by the time I go back it will be too late.

And I kind of feel like I'm being deceitful not telling her? Like it might make a difference in my return to work? I know it shouldn't, it is legally not allowed to make any sort of difference but I still feel a bit like I'm not being upfront.

Hmm.

What would you do?

I was pregnant when i returned to work and did not say anything. I was about 8 weeks when I returned.

It depends what sort of job you do as to whether I would suggest telling them before hand or not.

Office job - I work for one of the big banks in their head office, in their IT group.

I should add that I don't have any real relationship with this new manager... she doesn't have any kids so she's not very empathetic...

I would wait until you go back as they don't need to know until then. If you tell them before then you are more likely to get shafted (even though it is illegal, they can work around it).

I agree with the others. Unless you can't do the position you are going back to, or special arrangements need to be made, don't say anything until after you go back.
