Hello!

Snuggly- Haha nice! Good gig? I guess beer makes any gig good though...
Cherished- I mean sprouts in the ground... my rocket is almost dead and the coriander is getting there Im just laving it now, DP can hopefully bring them back to life, he has been getting all inspired by 'Costa's garden oddessy(sp)" on thursday nights
NaNa- Good to hear your move went ok! Welcome back to the sunny state How are you settling in?

I had my folks and one of my brothers visit last night and I made them dinner for the first time in over a year. They are complete carnivores, I wish I had put a bit more thought into the meal. I made chickpea and vegetable curry which was delicious, but they all struggled with the amount of vegetables... Might just stick with tvp taco's next time I think.
Which brings me to my question.... Would any of you cater for meat eaters at say xmas time? As in serve meat for them? I have a real issue with it but DP thinks I should be a bit more considerate as everyone we know makes veg food for us...
Hope your all having a good monday

Helloooo?

How is everyone?
I made the most amazing dinner the other night- stuffed eggplant yummo! Have never made it before and it turned out so good. Filled it with capsicum, mushrooms, eggplant, dash of lentils, herbs, tomato and tahini. Bit of cheese on top and in the oven for an hour, served with salad. Was so good!

We are off to Melbourne tmrw night for the weekend which means we get to eat at soul food and veg out, YAY!
Hope your all well

Ahhh, Peach I am off to Melbourne on Friday! Might bump into you at Vegie Bar or soul mama or somewhere! I'll be the one in the dress (for Frocktober) with the loud husband!

I made a soup the other night, pumpkin and parsnip and sweet potato and carrot. Cooked with onion and caraway seed and a stock that I made with some dill and other vegies. Topped it with a mix of onion, capsicum, vegie bacon and croutons, as well as tofutti with paprika sprinkled over it. Little bit eastern European, little bit of yum. Had leftovers for lunch today. MMM.

I love Vegetables!

Hello everyone! So sorry for my absence but we can blame Telstra for that! (major internet connection issues).

Peach - regarding your question about whether to prepare meat for non-vego guests....I have to say that I wouldn't do it. Since I am a vegan for ethical reasons,I would have a problem with buying and preparing meat in my home.It would be going against a deeply held belief. I don't think that meat eaters in general have an ethical issue with preparing vegetables (although they might have other issue with it) for vego guests. All our friends and family know we are vegan so they know what to expect at our place.

At my son's recent 3rd birthday, one of the dad's came up and said 'I have a problem with my cake,it doesn't have milk in it'. I managed a giggle at the time...

Hey Girls,
How is everyone going?
Aliash- Good to hear from you, and glad your telstra probs have been rectified
Snuggly- How was your Melbourne trip? Did you make it out to many good resturants?
Cherished- How are you going? Hows the herb jungle? Our plants have survived! The zombie rocket plant is back, Im stoked.
Things here have been good, Melbourne was awesome I ate SO much good food! Made it to veggie bar and even though it took over an hour and a half to get our food it was worth the wait. Had one of my besties engagement parties on, and they put on a huge veitnamese feast which was delish too. Argh, monster awake, gotta run! Hope your all well

Soooo.... pretty quiet in here still! Would love to say that I have something interesting to add, but there's nothing! A heightened love for tempeh, perhaps.

OOOhhh, no, wait! I had to buy some Cheezly from crueltyfreeshop a while ago, so to make postage worth it, I also bought some Vegan shrimp paste. Used it the other night, it stinks! In a good way, but man, it adds a depth of flavour to everything, what a good buy!

And I made vegan hedgehog and vegan Chuck Norris cookies (the amount of fat in them is equivalent to a swift roundhouse kick to the arteries) for a cake stall, and the hedgehog sold ot way before the other stuff, even though it had a big fat "VEGAN" label on it. Yaaaaaay!

SnugBug YAY for vegan goodies!

Peach honey I must have missed your post the other day so sorry! Glad your food was worth the wait because I would have been so mad after an hour and a half! I was just thinking today while watering the herbs how much they have grown!!!! They are awsome and I've loved adding them to my plain boring diet food to spice things up... I'm loving couscous with fresh Veitnamese hot mint, rocket, coriander, lemon grass and whatever else I pick out

Aliash my comment for the milkless cake is Everyone who comes over to our house knows not to expect any meat... We wouldn't even let them cook meat here even if we had a BBQ (which we don't), besides I think it woudl be rude for them to expect us to cook meat in our home and use our saucepans etc YUCK! People have bought meat into the home when they bought their own subway over for lunch but that is it... If they are eating our food it will be vegetarian... If guests are staying for a while and want meat we go out for dinner and they order what they want.

Hello HollyM, Krys, NaNaand anyone else I have forgotten

AFM I've not been posting anything because I have not been eating 'anything' exciting! no nice sauces, dressings, pastries, slices or cookies as I am loosing weight seriously over the last 6 weeks so everything I am eating is pretty plain and simple so I have a good idea of what I'm consuming... Boring I know!

I'm still around, but no time for much... internet has been dodgy lately, and DS has decided 4am is THE TIME to get up and go every morning for the last few weeks now, and I'm just a bit wiped out!
Have been slowly getting settled here in Brissie, and had a bit of fun shopping at some of the old wholesale suppliers I used to go to, picking up whatever middle eastern goodies I could find (not much), and bulk bags of beans and lentils at the Indian place in the Gabba. And pickles and chutneys! mmmm... spicy eggplant kasaundi! Found a brand new French bakery, which is fortunately on the other side of the city to me, so I wont put on a thousand pounds by the end of the month! I am having serious Melbourne food withdrawals tho... That sounds sad, doesn't it?! I just don't have the time to be very creative at the moment, and I haven't got access to a good fruit and veg supplier here. Other than the bits and pieces my mum brings me from her garden when she visits! So it's been lots of couscous and tagines, harira soup, warm salads and the occasional packet mix rendang curry! The Asian Home Gourmet brand is vegetarian, but darn it's hot! I did manage to make some vegan muffins (pear, almond, ginger and dark choc) and a nice warm salad the other night with grilled zucchini slices, blanched asparagus, cherry tomatoes, canellini beans, spring onions, a lemon-cumin-paprika vinaigrette and loads of dill and mint. But it was after 9.30 by the time I got to eat it, and I was interrupted twice to resettle DS... Anyway, he's starting childcare next week so hopefully I can get back in the kitchen a bit more and get my groove back maybe!
Hope you're all happy and healthy! Must sleep now...

snuggly - where is this tempeh you speak of?? I have a need for tempeh pecel, and it's getting desperate!!

NaNa I get tempeh from Coles at Gabba Central. Go after 6pm and it's often cheep cheap. While you're in the Gabba, also check out Pennisi deli on Balaclava St, I love it in there! Especially after having lived in South America and Eastern Europe - there's an aisle there that makes me feel like I'm in either of those areas!

That's where I went! I've been going there for years. The new bakery next door is lovely too, and I'm not just saying that because the owner gave me free bread! It's delish, and very authentic French. No square bread here, thank you! Also, Samios is good for the same kind of stuff as Pennisi, but on Annerley Rd. I wont be going to the Gabba again any time soon tho, not even after 6pm, since I'm on the north side, I don't have a car and I don't reckon I could get DS to agree to a bus ride with me when it's his dinner time! Will have to have a look out for tempeh at my local places. I don't think I've given it to DS yet, so that will be another new food for him to try! He's eating more food than me at the moment, which is a bit scary. Growth spurt maybe. I've never seen a kid eat so much hommus and rye bread, it's astonishing!
I have just received a very special delivery of 1 litre each of my friend's famous jalapeno jelly and chipotle jam. Almost worth coming back to Qld just for that! I have missed it so much...

I do tend to find Coles much better for tofu and tempeh and things. Gabba Central particularly good - maybe it's the massive local student population? They've also started to stock tofutti, which is great, so now the only thing I go to Woolies for is Home Brand tortillas, and we're even starting to go off them. Woolies have stopped stocking DH's beloved strawberry so good, so he doesn't want to shop there any more! lol.

But we're both car-less! Might need to be creative with that one

Has anyone seen my pumpkin thread? Can I eat my butternut pumpkin? It looks a little dodgy. I'm off to consult Stephanie Alexander....

OK I know I haven't been here lately but we had the nicest dinner tonight. Was so awesome I had to share: Rice paper wrappers filled with chopped Frys vege nuggets, toasted cashews, sliced mango, hoisin sauce, coriander, cucumber, carrot, lettuce and tomato.
To die for! I ate about 8 I think.

hmph! keep losing internet... this is a re-post of what I tried to say half an hour ago:
A good friend of mine, who is also a vego chef and mama, her husband is a buyer for the organic place in Forest Glen. It's awesome, and my family has shopped there since I was a kid. But yeah, being without a car makes that trip a little challenging on a regular basis. But I will be heading up to stay at my friend's place and visit my mum soon, so maybe a co-op is in order?!
Krysalyss - can I come round for leftovers?? Sounds yummy! I don't know about dying for it, but I'd get the train to Rocky if someone was going to make me home-meade rice paper rolls! I'm so hungry, DS ate most of my dinner (and lunch!) so I've had toast... The kid is eating me out of house and home.
Pumpkin thread?? I'm intrigued...

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick one, its impossible to do anything at the moment but DD is smooshing broccoli into her mouth(and the carpet) so I have a couple of mins
Rice paper rolls- my new favourite meal! So random I was actually coming on to say how Ive just fallen in love with them. Made them twice this week already, sooooo yummy Krysalyss yours sound divine! I tried mine with kecap manis the other night as we usually have plain soy... what other sauces can you have with them? ****ake mushrooms are my new love too, soooo good.

NaNa- Are you still doing your elimination diet?
Cherished- No problems, I miss posts all the time. How are you going?
Snuggly- I havnt seen your pumpkin thread, did you grow one?
Aliash- How are you going?
Yesterday I was taken out to lunch in paddington by my best friend which was nice, ordered 5 dishes between the two of us and left soooo full! Had risotto balls, rocket salad with caramelised walnuts, whats that fried cheese? Ah yep, haloumi which I dont really dig that much and potato jacks(so tasty!) and friend had crocodile Was nice to go out though, especially as there is nowhere down here to eat out at....
Things have been good here, DD is turning into the little vegie connosiour(sp) now happily munching on sticks of tofu. My Dad came over on sat "Are you raising her veg?" Me "Yup" "Oh no, why deprive the poor child?" Me Gotta love the relos

Hope everyone has a good day So hot here!

Ahhhh, rellos. What can you do...

My pumpkin thread was about a butternut I bought that had turned a bit bad. Wasn't sure if I could still eat it. I compromised and ate the top half

Went to alibi room on Saturday night, got the vegan pizza and one of their half-kilo bowls of chips to share with DH. It was soooo good.
Also found out that my musical idol is vego on the weekend. New project is to convert him. (the best part? I think he thinks I'm cool.)
