Default Independent Midwife - Need Info..

Hi..

Someone has mentioned to me to think about an Independent Midwife as I don't want a doula. I had never heard of one before this and am wanting as much information on them if someone has some. I have found some in my area (adelaide) but would like to know more before calling and making appointments.

My first birth was terrrible as there were many shift changes, people not knowing what they were doing and many other things that lead to an emergency c-section because bub was presenting with his brow and not crown.

I am 19-20wks preg now and am starting to feel the pressures of elect c/s or vbac.

Any information would fantastic!

Hi try2vbac,
Just wanted to encourage you to seriously consider an independant midwife! I had a succesful vba2c in March and I honestly believe my independant midwife played a huge roll. My first two labors and birth experiences were horrible with staff changes and horrible midwifes. So I decided to hire an independant midwife. She was amazing and although it can be a little expensive to hire one she was more than worth it. Just knowing that I had her there to watch out enabled me to relax and labor without feeling anxious about the staff or hospital policies. I'm not local so I can't reccomend anyone but it is deffenetly a fantastic idea
Good luck!!
Jules

Default Cost?

Hey all I am starting to think about having another bubby but having had one hospital and one homebirth, I don't wanna go back to that horrid place they tell me is good for having a baby (aka hospital) I was wondering what the approximate going rate for a midwife is? I paid $3500 3.5 years ago, is this still about right?

argh....I get the feeling cost will be the deciding factor in me having to go to hospital....or free birth.

hi!
I sent u a PM If u have any more questions just ask

I have found IM's to be very fair and approachable people. If u are looking at payment plans just give a few close to u a call and discuss it with them.
