Twins or More Just when we thought having one baby was tricky enough, mums to multiples often have extra challenges with two or more babies of the same age. If you are a mum to twins or more, this is where you can exchange experiences and support with others.

Default 2 sets of twins?

Does anyone have 2 sets of naturally concieved twins? I am curious to know what the chances are of me having twins again? My 1st set were fraternal, natural. I think a doc told me 1 in 200 or something but from things I have read it may be higher.. (I would secretly love another set of twins, my body probably wouldn't though!)

A woman who lived up the street from me had 5 boys- with two sets of twins - one fraternal and one identical set. Man was it hard to work out who was who as they were all very similar looking LOL. They are all adults now.

My SIL naturally conceived two sets of twins but sadly lost one. I think the doctor told her that she always ovulated two eggs at a time and virtually said that whenever she conceived, she would ALWAYS have twins. That's secondhand though so I'm not sure how accurate that is!

In my 6 pregnancies, 2 times have been confirmed twins, with me losing one in each pregnancy. Both fraternal pregnancies.

I think if you are prone to ovulating 2 eggs, it may very well happen again....

Wow.. I was on another forum (for multiples) and a few of them have had 2 sets.. Funny thing is I had a really long cycle and had trouble falling pregnant so thought it was a miracle.. Maybe not.. I guess what will be will be.. I would be grateful to just have 1, but to get another shot at being a twin mummy would be good.. I feel ripped off!

It would be so wonderful if you have your second set of twins. Every pregnancy is different also. As a midwife I know of several woman that have more then one set of naturally concieved twins. It seems especially common in woman who have large amounts of twins in their families. One lady had two sets in 12months.

if you've naturally conceived fraternal twins, your chances of naturally conceiving fraternal twins again is said to be 1 in 4. It is assumed that you have a tendency to ovulate multiple eggs. This is why fraternal twins are hereditary - because a tendency to ovulate multiple eggs at once is genetic.
It is different for identical twins though. Chances of spontaneously conceiving a second set of identical twins is 1 in 70 000. although it does happen, of course!

good luck!

My brother and SIL have two sets, both fraternal.
Not sure, but I think SIL was on clomid before the first set... There is a family history of twins on both sides.

My Nanna had 2 sets of unidentical twins, one after the other. She has 11 months between the first set and the second set. Both sets are boy/girl twins.

My Aunty had 3 sets of twins
2 identical boys, 2 years later 2 identical girls and then a boy and a girl.
It was werid but after the 2nd set, when she told us she was expecting again we never imagined a 3rd set of twins.
Goodluck in getting your bubba's

xx
