Default Any info in HSG's?

Hi, just signed up on Belly Belly and hoping for some advice or thoughts from women who have gone through the same thing I have. I am 32 and have had 2 miscarriages (one at 8 weeks and one at 6) We live in Canada and our health care system is a bit slow. We are on a waiting list to get into a clinic for frequent loss, but have another 4 months to wait. Meanwhile, we have gone to a US clinic and had blood work done, everything appears normal, they want us to follow up with an HSG. Any opinions on this? Has it been helpful or is it kind of a waste of time/money? I will do whatever it takes to protect my next child, but I hear so many opinions...just try again, I'm sure it will be fine.....Oh, these things jsut happen....why are you wasting your time on these tests....etc... it goes on. So I'm not sure what to think anymore. I didn't want to recklessly try for a third pregnancy without at least ruling some things out, and I'd love to try again right away (last miscarraige was end of Aug. so I feel ready.) but what if this HSG could reveal something? I'm frustrated/ confused and it would help to know what other people have done/experienced. Any thoughts?

Hi there & welcome to BB

In my opinion, the HSG is worth having... it can't hurt

Usually they would do it to check blocked tubes etc - if you've fallen pregnant naturally then you must have at least one tube that is working freely enough - but an HSG can show other things to a specialist as well in helping with deciding how to go about further treatment.

They are a little painful (I took some pain meds before I had mine done - your Dr will advise which ones) - but its over relativele quickly, & it was what alerted my specialist to my problem after 7yrs of trying for number 2.

I would definately have it done before you go ahead trying again - its a tiny thing but can be a major problem solver... and its not surgery etc, it takes about as long as a pap smear

From there they will work out where to go.

Good luck

Thanks HollyBolly, I think that's exactly what I needed to hear. So many people don't understand why we would bother testing after only 2 miscarriages...even my family doctor wasn't 100% supportive. It's nice to hear words of support. Thank-you for telling me about your experience! -Leah
