Default Confused about Vitex (ChasteTree)

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if I'm meant to stop taking Vitex after O, or continue through untill i know if I'm pregnant or not? I've read so many conflicting things on this. Some say it supports progesterone so is beneficial to take in early pregnancy, others say it is contraindicated in pregnancy.

Help?!

Any opinions or experiences?

My understanding is keep taking it til you get a BFP. It takes a few months to make a difference, so that means taking it all month.

I'm not a naturopath or anything though - maybe ask one.

I wouldn't take it at all unless you've talked to a naturopath or something.

I too was like you and very confused about the contradictive information out there about Vitex and when to stop taking it. I consulted with my Traditional Chinese Herbalist and he suggested taking it up until BFP. Prior to this I was stopping after O'ing.

If in doubt always seek professional advice.

I feel your frustration - I read that it's contraindicated for pregnancy, but my naturopath prescribed it for me! I think it's okay to take until you get a BFP, but I agree that you should check with a naturopath as well.

My acupuncturist gave this to me for the first time yesterday and she said to take it whenever I don't have AF. I didn't know there was any question over whether it is safe during early pg or not, so I'll be sure to ask her about that when I'm near the end of my cycle...

I didn't take it after I knew I'd O'd. I'd read conflicting things about whether it was safe or not so chose to do it that way. My cycle was still regulated using it that way.
