The Third & Fourth Stage of Labour Labour doesn't end with the birth of the baby - it ends with the third stage - the birth of the placenta! So if you have any questions about anything third stage, for example cord blood, cord clamping, vitamin K injections or the 'fourth stage' of post-birth bonding, post here!

That's how the Ob explained it to me. I still pushed for it and was still contracting heaps to get it out after the synto was switched off. The pushy feeling didn't stop till it was out. The synto was only meant to give my body a little push in the right direction but the Ob got called into a CS and couldn't authorise switching the synto off for the MW, even though she said when I agreed to it giving me a little push in the right direction it could be switched off when I was making progress, so having signed the consent form was the quickest way to get it switched off. If I had bled too much it was still connected and would have been easy to switch back on if I needed it.

Jasp - I am going to insist on the wait and see approach. What do you think you'll do?

BTW - The shots are not painful. I actually didn't even know that I had them

Well, I spoke about this with DH yesterday.
He is happy to delay the cord clamping, so we will definitely be having that in our birth plan.
However he is all for the synto for me... he stresses & worries about me I guess ...so I think the compromise is we will wait & see. (He thinks I will have a shot after 10-20 minutes - I think we will just wait & see what the mids / drs think).
I'm certainly not opposed to having it if I need it! I just don't see the point in having it 'just in case'.

So yeah - 'wait and see' for us too

Sounds like you at least have a supportive midwife there My next appt at hosp is at 41 weeks, hopefully I won't make it! but if I do I will certainly be bringing it up then & see what they say.
