We have a small spring free trampoline for our toddler. It is only about 75cm off the ground but still weight bears to 70kg. We love it. It is made using bundgy chord and just as good, if not better than a trampoline with springs.
As a kid, we had a trampoline with springs and I remember jumping on them and occassionally the springs flying across the backyard when they came off the trampoline. Lucky they didn't hit anyone, they would have been quite a projectile. I was quite glad to get one without springs.
As ours is only small (about 1.5m diametre) it cost us only $55. They were $80 in last years' Target toy sale, but they were on the clearance stand after Christmas, probably from people who ordered them but didn't pick them up. It still has all the mats and nets and we are very happy because we feel it is quite safe. As it is low the ground, the kids can climb on and off it themselves without any assistance which I also like.
We also feel pretty good about the price - it won't last us years, but it was cheap enough that I am happy to replace it with a bigger one when the kids get older. Things don't last more than a couple of years out in the Townsville sun anyway - they tend to weather very badly and need replacing anyway.
