Default Success with IUI?? Encouragement needed, please

Hi.

I was wondering whether anyone has experienced success with IUI? DH and I are about to start our second IUI attempt and I have been scouring the internet, blogs etc trying to to find success stories, and have come up short. I understand that the odds for IUI over three cycles are about the same as one IVF cycle, but I want to know, are we wasting our time doing IUI or can we get pg this way?? Other than mild endo, which was removed via lap earlier this year, we don't have any other known issues. I would really appreciate any stories you can share.

Thanks, Sal.

I have PCOS, and we used frozen donor sperm (well, it was thawed when we used it... obviously lol), and our IUI baby has just turned 1!! We got pregnant on our fourth cycle With Clomid and Pregnyl.

Hi Sal

I got PG on an IUI cycle in FEb this year. I have had mild endo since I was 21, found out at 39 that my fallopian tubes were blocked with endo (after a few years TTC), they were unblocked during a laparoscopy.....but there was some doubt about their function, Started IVF straight after these mostly because of my age but I didn't respond well to the drugs, and they kept cancelling cycles. On the 3rd attempt at IVF, they were about to cancel again and I asked if we could do IUI just in case as I had one good dominant follicle....it worked!

I figure if I had have bypassed the IVF and maybe kept trying naturally, it might have happened anyway, but I will never know. So my philosophy is if everything is in okay working order (both male and female), then IUI is giving you a better chance than naturally because the best sperm is getting put in the right place and then your body can just take over.

The IVF staff told me that IUI is half as successful as IVF, but I think it depends on what the underlying problems are.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Sal I a currently just over 15 weeks pregnant with an IUI baby. I have POCS and we did 4 OI cycles and 2 IUI cycles and one cancelled IUI cycle and we have now got the outcoe we desired. All the best. We were also told 3 IUI cycles and then it is IVF. We were on our last go and it worked.

Default success with IUI

Hi Sal79,

IUI can and does work for some people. I have pcos and my DH has some sperm issues. We concieved our DD on our 1st attempt almost 4 and a half years ago after 20 mths TTC. We have also managed to concieve baby #2 on our first go at IUI after 12mths TTC. I am now almost 6 wks pg. I was told that there is approx 10 - 15% chance of getting pg for each attempt. I believe we have been very lucky and blessed in concieving on the first attempt both times. Although the question has crossed my mind as to whether we really needed this treatment, but then if we didn't why didn't we concieve in the months beforehand?
IUI is a more simple, less invasive, and less expensive option ompared to IVF. And I believe it's certainly worth giving a go.
All the best. I hope your journey to parenthood is shorter than you expect.
