Default Question about.....

Protein drinks.....

Anyone know if these are ok?

Because I'm suffering quite bad nausea, the only foods that I can really tolerate at the moment are quite dense in carbs. I'm worried I'm not getting enough protein and want to make sure I have some.

Are these ok? I'm thinking just a nice whey protein supplement.

Thanks guys,
Sue x

Hi Sue, I can't help you, can only commiserate. I feel like I am overloading on carbs, toast for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, pasta for dinner, it is the only thing that seems to settle my stomach and keep the nausea at bay. I am just hoping this will soon settle and I can get back to eating regular. GL xx

BDT, I'm totally the same, I can't wait to get back into my regular eating habits. One thing that I am gutted about is not being able to stomach eggs. I LOVE eggs and now even the thought of them (like right now) makes me want to hurl!
I had a plate of HOT CHIPS for lunch yesterday - I haven't had chips for years!!!! WTF?

Anyway, thanks babe, I might just ask my naturopath tomorrow.

Hi Sue1979!

Firstly, my heart goes out to you , I dont know the right answer re: protein drinks but I want to assure you not to panic about the situation. I have had hyperemisis gravidarum in my pregnancy and for the first 16 weeks I honestly kept nothing down but green apples, no protein, no carbs, very little fluid and no folate . I was absolutely terrified that my baby would not be okay but at each scan it was kicking away and thriving on everything it was taking from me. Cheeky little devil has taken everything I had! I was throwing up 24 hours a day.
From about 18 weeks I could eat toast and plain pasta occassionally. But since then have pretty much lived on fruit and a few 'extras' up unitl about 2 weeks ago. There are so many things I still cant eat.....
As for the hot chips, I read that they actually calm the stomach- sounds absurd I know but apparently potato chips (packet) can keep the nausea at bay as well, until they come back up.
If you find a protein shake is safe and you can stomach them then go for your life! Find what settles the stomach and go with it.
Hope it all eases soon xxxx

Hi Sue

You will probably find that a lot of the girls in here were only able to stomach carbs in those first weeks with MS. All I wanted was hot chips & potato cakes. I find even now that carbs are one of the first things I want, but I have found one of my favourite things is Mashed Potato with tuna and some cheese mixed in. Not too much tuna just enough to make me feel like I'm getting some extra protein. Generally while you are struggling with MS eat whatever you can as something is always better than nothing and remember that little thing growing inside is a little parasite and will take all the good things from you anyway.

Good luck I hope the MS settles soon for you.

Congrats Sue - I read on the other thread you saw the bubs heartbeat - how exciting and relieving for you.

As for protein shake - not sure about them. I am exactly the same - can only really stomach carbs - have been having toast in the morning. Basic sandwich at lunch and pasta with cheese is something I can stomach! - oh and love hot chips too - which is not something I usually have, but they seem to work. I also read a sip of coke on another thread can calm M/S. Have tried that too and it seems to work as well. Does not sound like a healthy diet by any means.

I am able to stomach manderins too - don't know the protein value in those though.

As for eggs - I usually love them too. We have chickens at home and they are producing about 10 eggs a day - which we are giving away as even the thought of them is making me ill!!

Hopefully MS doesn't last too long

BDT, LOL, I never eat hot chips but I have to say, they tasted sooooo goooooooood!

Thanks for the input everyone. It would seem that there are a lot of carb loaded nauseous laydees out there hey?

Hugs
