Kids Helpline launches a new website
Kids Helpline has launched its new website at [ Kids Helpline - 1800 55 1800 ]www.kidshelp.com.au. The new site offers a safe, fun and interactive place for kids and young people to explore issues that are important to them.
Features of the new site include: age specific 'micro-sites' targeting the needs of different age groups
a specific section for 'Grownups' which includes research, reports and a service contact database
downloadable screensavers and wallpaper
a moderated discussion forum for teenagers
'hot topics' on common problems and concerns for kids and young people
stories from kids and young people who have experienced and overcome challenges in their lives
an interactive online poll
a more user friendly gateway to our counselling services.
New 'Grownups' section (18 +)
A 'Grownups' section of the website has been developed with the broader community in mind. This area aims to address the needs of parents, teachers, service providers, media and researchers.
A useful resource in this section is [ Kids Helpline - Search For A Service ]Search for a service, which enables users to find relevant face-to-face services in their area.
We have also developed a new Research and Reports section where you can download information about Kids Helpline and issues that we deal with every day. You can also find lots of general information about the counselling service, including what happens when kids call and what kids call about.

Kids Helpline moderated discussion forum (13-25 year olds)
A key feature of the 'Teens and Young Adults' (ages 13-25) section is our discussion forum. Moderated by trained counsellors, the forum aims to provide a safe, supportive environment for young people to share ideas and opinions.
A new topic will be featured each month, and this month's topic is 'Cyber Bullying'.
The forum is currently open:
Monday: 8.00pm - 11.00pm
Wednesday: 3.30pm - 6.30pm
Saturday: 10.00am - 1.00pm

Name the 'Kids Helpline dog' competition (5-12 year olds)
Feedback from kids told us that they would like a mascot on the website - to help them around the site and to make them feel more comfortable and safe. We asked kids to choose what they would like the new mascot to be, and they chose a friendly, spotty dog!
We now need a name for our new mascot, and are running a competition for school kids to come up with the best name. The competition is open to kids aged 5-12, and there are some great prizes on offer, including prizes for schools.
Kids can enter the competition as a class or individually, by downloading the competition form, completing the colouring-in activity, and naming the dog. They also need to provide a reason for the dog's name!
