Default Farts

At what age is reasonable to expect your children to exercise some control when it comes to farting in public?

Oh tough one! Ds laughs hysterically when he does them now but he is nearly 2? Dh gets cross cause i cant help but laugh. I think once they are old enough to understand rules would be a good time to start....but if it has to come out it has to come out...maybe just no fits of laughter after?????

pmsl I just started a job and the 18 yr old son farted right in front of me and the mother

So maybe if you can get them to exercise some control before that you're doing well

Yeah, it would be good not to have the post-fart celebration. The problem with having two is that when one farts the other one provides commentary and then they have a discussion about the merits of the fart (volume, smell). I'd rather just sneak off but that's impossible....

I remember a dinner party my parents' friends gave. The adults would have been in their 40s. Dad and the host started chatting about farts. No-one had even farted; they were just comparing great classic farts. And smells.

Sorry for the disappointing answer!

As for when to not fart in public - can you just not fart when you need to? Can everyone you know? I mean, I can go silent but it's usually something I can't stop when it's coming.

My 29 year old husband is having difficulty with this concept - I thought it was something that everyone just *learned*, but he can't understand why he should be the least bit uncomfortable ever.....

So if you learn how to do it Bron - PLEASE share the secret!!

When the farts start taking the paint off the walls. Or they start lighting them in front of you.

As long as 1. they say excuse me (they can laugh all they want) 2. they only do it at home.

That may be a way of coaxing them at earlier ages not to show off their prowess in public.

my xh used to think it totally amusing to just "drop one" whenever or wherever he was. If I can feel one "brewing" I'll go outside, away from people because sometimes you just don't know if it will be quiet or not.

I get mortified the first time I fart in front of a bf.

My youngest nephew (in his 20s) can clear a room with his ones, talk about deadly smell, my brother (in his 60s) is the worst - he still blames their cat .... mind you their cat has been dead for over 20 years, I think he's started to blame the dog now.

this sure is a funny thread!!

I am unfortunately marrying into a family of farters, i was brought up that farting was unacceptable infront of other people, if we felt one we had to go outside or into the bathroom, farting was a personal private thing. But DP's family promote it! i feel bad when i burp infront of people let alone let one rip!!! But my DP doesn't care if people are bothered by his farting or burping. Though he did behave himself around my grandparents (they were the ones who said farting and burping were unacceptable around other people) though he did have gastro when we vistited so im sure if he burped or farted it would have got very messy

I'm not sure at what age i was told that it was inappropriate i would assume i was told when i was really young..

*reapplies mascara* Oh too funny!

DF is a proud farter as well. Last night while I was in the shower he actually opened up the door, stuck his butt in and farted and shut it on me again And was then extremely disapointed when it had no smell (thank god!)

Our dog also farts... and burps... He once burped so loud even he looked around wondering where the noise had come from.

I can only imagine what life is going to be like with a third male in the house!

So yes, Bron.. if you find out, let me know too XD
