Obstetrician Recommendations & Discussion Looking for an Obstetrician? Ask for member suggestions or feedback here. Please note that due to frequent legal defamation threats (they dont like bad things being said about them or they attempt to sue me as site owner) this forum is now a closed one. You can post a thread but you will need to ask for members to PM or email you with their feedback. Apologies for the inconvenience but we got sick of this forum turning into an Ob promotion thread, when we can't share bad experiences as well or we'll be silenced with threats of legal action.

Hi Kirsty and welcome to BB.

I'm a bit confusted as to what you want. I may be wrong but I don't think that you can choose a public Obs.

You can choose to be a private patient but be in a public ward or you can choose to be a private patient in a private ward.

If you are looking at going public you need to start with your GP and then work out if you want midwife care or shared care (with your GP and midwife) and you will see an Obs a couple of times throughout the pregnancy (but I am pretty sure you dont' get to choose which one) and then you will get whichever one is on the day you go in to have the baby.

Does this help?

Don't forget, you only need an ob if you have medical complications - and I hope you dont!

But no, can't chose an Ob public.
