Smile Letter to Tristan ~ Happy Due Day

Tristan,

Today is the day you were due to enter this world, but on this day you are 5w4d old. Mummy tried very hard to keep you baking, but you had your own ideas and tried to escape at just 26 weeks. Thanks to mummy's intuition and a smart thinking midwife mummy held on and for 8w2d you kept trying to escape, eventually mummy's body gave way and let you enter into this world almost 6 weeks early.

When you were born you let out this little cry and mummy knew it would be ok, but then you went into respitory distress and you had to be intubated and then admitted into the NICU. You were very strong and proved a lot of the dr's and nurses wrong. At just two days old the nurses told me you were too young to be able to breastfeed, but you proved them wrong. At just 4 days old you were fully suck fed (breast by day and bottle by night). But you still had to stay in hospital, even though you were born weighing 3090 grams and weight was not an issue for you, your immature liver meant you got jaundice. Because your jaundice levels were not coming down you had to stay in the SCN. Eventually at 6 days old mummy persuaded the Neonatologist to let you be transferred closer to home.

Once you arrived in Northam hospital, mummy was allowed to sleep in your room. After just two days and much pleading with the paed, you were allowed to go home at 8 days old.

Today you have been fully breastfed for 4w5d and you love it. You are sleeping roughly 6-7 hours overnight and enjoy sleeping between mummy and daddy, you also enjoy it when mummy carries you in the baby carrier.

Mummy and Daddy are very proud of you and your big brother Brendan loves you very much. Brendan helps mummy look after you during the day while daddy goes to work.

Happy Due Date Tristan
Keep growing strong little man.

Sally, mine was just about on time, i can't complain as he was 39 weeks, but while reading your post i could imagine you and yours reopening the letter on your ds' 21st birthday and how beautiful it would be that i would love to start my own letters..i would have loved to know what my mom was thinking when i was my ds' age

Where were your babies born Sally? My DS was born at John Hunter in Newcastle at 36+32 weeks. He weighed 2630 grams. He was born early due a pre-birth medical condition, I was going to be induced at 37 weeks but he decided he needed to be born earlier via emergency c/s!

hehe

Both were born at King Edward Memorial in Perth (only level 3 hospital apart from the childrens)

Brendan, my waters broke at 28 weeks, I went into spontaneous labour at 30 weeks he was born 30+1.
Tristan I was in and out of labour from 26 weeks, he came 34+3.

Hows your lil man doing now?
