| | Trainee Midwives Please Post HERE
If you are a trainee Midwife looking for women to do follow throughs to meet your course requirements, please post in this thread. Please include where you are training, how long you have been training and a bit about your philosophy of birth and what you feel you can offer a birthing mother. Dont forget to join our midwifery chat forum too - click here and choose the midwifery chatter group.
To pregnant women - as part of midwifery training, trainee midwives are required to do follow throughs from pregnancy to birth with a quota of women to complete their training. They are midwives who have begun midwifery training, some have birth support backgrounds as well, others not - it varies. So if you would be interested in having a trainee midwife attend your birth, keep an eye out here and as they are posted, you may contact the trainee midwives directly. It's not suitable for those about to give birth as they also need to share the pregnancy journey with you.
It is your responsibility to chat with the person and find out if you would be happy to have them with you, what it involves and of course ensuring that they share the same birth philosophy as yourself. Enjoy!

The trainees I mean though Theresa are ones you meet ante-natally and see you through pregnancy and birth - not just a trainee when you arrive at hospital, iykwim? It's called a follow-through journey and it's different to the ones you meet in hospital. You get to know these trainees during your pregnancy.

| | Student Midwife seeking Pregnant Women in SA!
Hi there everybody!
My name is Megan Castell and I am a second year student Midwife studying at the University of South Australia. I am 26, defacto with one beautiful and inspirational son and pregnant with my second, due in September 2007.
As part of our program requirements, we are to become actively involved in following women through pregnancy... from the antenatal to postnatal period, supporting women in all aspects of their experience and potentially adding to it in providing extra support and being an advocate and informant.
I am seeking women in the Adelaide area who would like to be involved in this potentially exciting experience!
I will be required to work with you on a professional basis, attending a minimum of 3 antenatal appointments and also visit you postnatally. If you are comfortable and willing, I would also like to be part of your birthing experience and maybe even play an active part in it (again, if you are comfortable with me and the idea itself).
The idea of this program is to have us proficient and experienced when we step out into the work force as practicing midwives and any experience that you offer will be greatly appreciated because it will provide me with the opportunity to provide women, like you, with the care and support they need during pregnancy and beyond.
If you feel you would be interested, please contact me via email casmy001@students.unisa.edu.au with any questions.
The university has also provided us with brochures about the program which I can forward to you and what it entails and if you choose to go ahead, will send you a letter of comfirmation to ensure you of legitimacy and other information.
Please understand that I will not attempt to replace your chosen carer/midwife/health professional, my main focus will be in providing extra support to you and your family, empowering you with extra information and care during your pregnancy.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope to hear from you
Megan Castell

Hi everyone,
Apart from being mumma to my 3 babies Jacob 10, Chloe 8 and Charlotte 5,
I am also in my final year of my Bachelor of Midwifery at ACU.
Part of our assessment involves us taking part in a 'Follow through Journey' with women who are approximatly half way through their pregnancy, but no more than 35 weeks. Involvement in the Follow Through Journey, means getting to know a midwifery student and sharing your pregnancy and birth experience with the student. As student midwives, we have the back up and support of a midwife mentor who act as our support to bounce ideas off or any questions we may have regarding our follow through women.
So far , I have been 'followed through' 27 women, and have been blessed and honoured to be present as part of the support team at the birth of 24 beautiful babies I have to say that this is most definetly the highlight of my studies, I just love getting to know women, their families and talk about the birth experience that they would like for themselves. I have made some really lovely friendships through the Follow through Journey
So:
If you are looking for a 'one to one' supportive relationship during your pregnancy and birth (being present at the birth is not compulsory) and days of early parenting
Are willing to share your experiences of pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting with a midwifery student
I would LOVE to hear from you. This is of course just a very brief introduction to the 'journey'. If you feel you may be interested, please email or pm me and I will be more than happy to discuss it with you further.
Thank you so much for listening,
Meredith

Hello,
My name is Emily. I am currently studying to become a midwife at Flinders Univeristy. I am in my third and final year and really enjoy sharing in the pregnancy and birth experience of women.
As stated above we are required to attend antenatal appointments, the birth and postnatal appointments. Pregnancy is such a beautiful natural experience and i enjoy every moment of the career i have chosen. Having a midwifery student allows you to recieve continuity of care by having a familiar face at your appointments and the birth. It is also a fantastic opportunity for me to gain further experience to improve in my field of study.
I have already completed 15 'follow throughs' and i have delivered 15 precious little babies. It is a gift to be able to share this with you.
I am happy to take pregnant mothers up to 34 weeks gestation and am willing to travel to most hospitals in Adelaide. If you are interested in allowing me to follow you through your pregnancy please email me at walt0125@flinders.edu.au
Thanks and all the best,
Emily |

Hello Everyone,
My name is Rachele Meredith and I am a first year Bachelor of Midwifery student at the University of South Australia. I am studying by correspondence and live in the Illawarra (Wollongong/Shellharbour) area.
I am married with four wonderful children ranging in age from 16 months to 13 years. The fantastic midwifery care I received during my own pregnancies, births and postnatally has inspired me to embark on Midwifery as a career.
As part of the BMid course, we are required to "follow-through" the pregnancies of a number of women - I think the other student midwives in this thread have explained the concept of a "follow-through" pretty well, I won't repeat it!
So if you live in or around the Illawarra area and are interested in having a student midwife involved in your care, I'd love to hear from you!
Rachele Meredith

Hi,
My name is Samantha and I'm a first year student at Flinders University. As part of my course, I have to follow thirty women through their pregnancy, birth and post-natal journey. I have my own children - one born via c-section and one a VBAC. I love being with women and their families and strongly believe in the one-to-one midwifery model of care. You are welcome to contact me for a chat to find out more.
My email is: Pahl0007 at flinders dot edu dot au
Regards,
Samantha Pahl

Hello everyone!
My name is Stacey Felix and I am a first year Midwifery student at Flinders University, South Australia. During my three year course I am to be actively involved in thirty women throughout their pregnancy, birth and postnatal experience. I am to go along with you to 3 antenatal appointments, be at your child's birth (if possible! ) and also see you after the birth.
I will not replace your Midwife or Doctor, I am simply there to observe and learn! My aim is to provide you with someone who will be there for you throughout your journey and to be a "familiar face" who will remain by your side during your labour and birthing experience. Remember that you are in charge and can decide what you would like to share with me. The aim is to provide continuity of care (a familiar person who will be there with you before, during and after your birth) and to learn how to support women and their families during this amazing time!
If you are at all interested please contact me via email- donutqueen_patsy@hotmail.com
Flinders Uni has provided us with pamphlets including more details and a contact number for our course coordinator and I would be more than happy to post one out to you!
With kind regards,
Stacey Felix
