Default Melbourne Mum's to be

Mt name is Meg and I am a 38 year old mother of four. I was always interested in midwifery, and this was affirmed with the births of my own children. Now that they are older, I have the time and flexibility to pursue my calling. I have a firm belief in the normality and power of birth, and aspire to be a supportive, open and honest midwife who can journey alongside the women I work with to acheive what they rightfully deserve-a wonderful pregnancy and birth experience.
I am now in my third year of midwifery studies at the University of Victoria and I am seekng women interested in participating in follow through journeys with me. I am working mostly out of the Royal Womens Hospital.
The follow-through program is a component of the Bachelor of Midwifery. It has two purposes. First, it provides the woman and her family the opportunity to form a professional working, one on one relationship with a midwife. The student midwife offers her experience, passion and support to the woman during her childbirth journey. The amount of involvement with the midwife is determined by the woman?s needs and desires. The student can assist in the following ways:
Accompany the woman and her partner to all or some ante-natal appointments
Attend child birth classes
Visit the woman in her home
Offer telephone support
Offer labour and birth support
Visit and offer support up to six weeks post birth

The student will make her self available as much as time and circumstance permit. She will adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines, as set out by the University and will endeavor to protect the rights and wishes of the woman at all times.

The second purpose of the follow through program is to give the student midwife the experience of the ?with woman? philosophy. Research and evidence shows that women report a more satisfying birth experience when they have been able to establish a one to one relationship with a midwife. ?With woman? means exactly what it says. Being with woman through her journey, experiencing the ups and downs of having a baby with her, the midwife role is one of respecting a woman?s ability to birth her baby, and recognizing pregnancy and birth as normal life events. This philosophy is an integral part of the Bachelor of Midwifery and the follow through journeys the student experiences help to develop the skills and attitudes that she will incorporate into her practice.
If this sounds like something you'd be interested in doing, I'd love to hear from you.

Default Student MIDWIFE Seeks Pregnant PERTH Ladies!

Hi - I am a student midwife at Curtin looking for Perth women less than 35 weeks pregnant to share their pregnancy, childbirth and early parenting experiences.

As part of the 3 year midwifery degree, student midwives have to be involved in a continuity of care experience (CCE) for 30 pregnant women. This involves attending pregnancy appointments, your labour and birth and visiting you during the early parenting period. I can provide support for you and your partner during this time and always work under the supervision of a midwife.

So if you would like a one to one supportive relationship during your pregnancy, birth and postnatal period and are interested in sharing your experiences with a midwifery student, or have any questions about the program, then please get in touch.

Many thanks,
Emma emma.davison@student.curtin.edu.au

Smile Due in late April? Willing to talk to a Midwifery Student about your experiences?

Hi all you lovely pregnant women out there!

I'm finishing the last few months of my Midwifery Degree in Melbourne and I'm desperately searching for women who are due around the end of April who are willing to catch up and talk with a student about their pregnancy and birth experiences.

The "Follow Through Journey Program" is part of the ACU and Nurses Board of Victoria requirements for midwives in training. It is designed to provide the opportunity for students and women to link together, create a supportive environment and provide space for continuity.

Because each woman's experience of pregnancy is different, the Follow Through Program is very flexible and is designed to suit each person. Linking up with a student can involve simply catching up for a cuppa and a chat a few times over your pregnancy and afterward, or students can be there as a more active support at your appointments if that's what a you're looking for.

As students we learn so much from simply hearing about your experiences. We can't complete our training without your input.

So if you are due around the end of April, live in Melbourne or out the eastern side of Melbourne, and are simply willing to talk about you and your baby, let me know.

If you can help or want to know more, please message me.
Thanks all!

Lightbulb Student Midwife- Seeking Pregnant Women in Melbourne

Hello

My name is Emma. I'm a mature age student, currently studying a Bachelor of Midwifery at ACU (Australian Catholic University) in Melbourne. I am also a mother of two beautiful girls (2 and 4 years old). As you would have seen from the posts above, The Follow Through Journey is a requirement of many Midwifery courses. It is also a component of my course, whereby we need to recruit pregnant women (less than 35 weeks pregnant) and support them through pregnancy, birth and the post natal period.

I can be involved as little or as much as you want. You decide the amount of involvement you (and your partner) would be comfortable with. Some of the types of support I can offer are: I can come to ante-natal appointments with you, assist you in research eg/ deciding type of birth you would like, writing a birth plan, chat to you on phone, answer queries via email, come to your birth...its totally up to you - it is your journey. I would be honoured to be apart of it.

I am an easy going person, caring, very nurturing and believe that I would be a valuable asset in assisting you through your pregnancy, birth and post-natal (6 weeks after birth) journey. As I mentioned above, I am a mature age student - so have the benefit of life experience plus I have two children - so I can totally empathise with the pregnancy and labour journey you will go through. I laboured for 20 hours with my first then had to have an emergency caesarian (combination of big head/small pelvis/baby facing posterior). Second baby was also on the large side, so decided to go for an elective caesar. I am happy with my birth choices. Choosing the birth that is right for you, is a very personal decision. It is not my role to be judgmental or to tell you what to do. If you allow me to share your journey, it will be a partnership between us, I will be there to support you and the decisions you make throughout the pregnancy, birth and post-natally.

I also have a mentor supporting me, who is a current registered and working Midwife. If you choose to let me join you on your journey, you will have access to her wealth of knowledge and expertise also.

If you would like to learn more, ask me a question or request my support through you Journey, I would love to hear from you.

My email address is: edabb@bigpond.com

All the best with your pregnancy and birthing experience.

Emma

Default Do you want some extra support during pregnancy?

Hello! My name is Alison and I'm a student midwife at Curtin University.
I am also a mum to two beautiful girls, aged 8 and nearly 3.

As part of my degree, I am required to be involved in continuity of care experiences (CCE) with pregnant women. This involves me coming along with you to your pregnancy appointments and education classes you may do, and a couple of post-natal visits after you have your bub. I would also love to attend your labour and birth, but this is something you can decide on at the time. I will be able to provide support for you and your partner during this time. I will always work under the supervision of a midwife.

So if you are less than 35 weeks pregnant and would like some extra support during your pregnancy, birth and postnatal period, and are interested in sharing your experiences with a midwifery student, or have any questions about the program, please contact me on alison.maclean@student.curtin.edu.au

Kind regards
Alison

Default Looking for expectant mums in Brisbane

Hello everyone!!

I am a second year direct entry student Midwife, a couple of years out of school, studying at the University of Queensland in Brisbane. I have very much enjoyed my years of studying and love being with women in the most intimate and special time of their life.
As part of my course I am to complete 10 'Follow Through Experiences' with pregnant women in the community. This basically means having a student midwife provide support and care for an expectant mother and her family throughout her pregnancy (antenatally, during the birth and postnatally).
I have currently carried out 3 follow throughs and have found each experience to be unique and wonderful.
If you are interested and are having your baby at either Royal Brisbane Womens Hospital, the Mater or Ipswich please give me a shout. I will answer any questions you may have regarding the experience or just have a chat!
My email address is s4173976@gmail.com

Thanks for your time

Default Student Midwife in Melbourne!

Hi all,

My name's Ellen and I'm studying at ACU doing a Bachelor of Midwifery.
As part of our course we have to 'follow' 20 pregnant women.

By follow I mean attend antenatal appointments and classes, possibly attend the birth, visit the mother and baby after birth and simply have chats about how the pregnancy is going.
Basically, to be a support person for the pregnant women as well as to learn about pregnancy and being 'with women' first hand.

If this sounds like something you would like to be involved in, and you are less than 35 weeks pregnant and live in Melbourne, please email me at ellenstephanie@gmail.com. I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks for your time.
Ellen.

Default Adelaide Midstudent

Hi to all the mummies to be in Adelaide,

My name is Kim and I am a First year student at Flinders University and a part of our program involves us 'following through' pregnancy from the antenatal stage, birth and postnatal to learn the importance of continuity of care. Midwifery students are there to give mum extra support and reassurance and a familiar face, which during pregnancy and childbirth can be quite reassuring as depending on where you may birth you may see different midwifes or doctors on most visits!
A little bit about myself..... I have 2 beautiful daughters of my own and have assistant nursing qualifications. I am extremely passionate about a women's right to be actively involved in her pregnancy care and birth! There is nothing more powerful and uplifting in this world than childbirth

If there is anyone interested in finding out more information or would just like to have a chat with me, feel free to pm me and I will get back to you with more details.

Thanks

Kim

Smile **Supportive Midwifery Student in the Geelong area**

Hi, I'm Jo from Geelong and am currently studying my first year of Midwifery at ACU Melbourne.

I am looking for any pregnantwomen out there in the Geelong area who would like to join our university's program "Follow Through Journey." It enables us students to become more confident and experience a certain amount of pregnancies first hand, including child bearing, birth and postnatal period.

Not only does it allow us students to effectively learn and experience the tricks of the trade, but more importantly the woman will experience the benefits of continuity of care also with a supportive and friendly familiar face to have throughout the journey or even just someone to talk to that will listen. The level of involvment, whether it be as much or as little, is entirely up to the woman herself [and her partner] and should not feel any pressure at all.

If u are less than 35 weeks pregnant and are interested or would prefer some more details, please feel free to leave a comment here or even email me at jo.resciniti@hotmail.com and I will get back to you.

Thanks,
Jo

Default Brisbane Student Midwife needing Women <35 weeks for Follow-Through Journey!

Hi there!

I am a 1st-year Midwifery Student/Qualified Doula at Australian Catholic Uni in Brisbane.

As apart of my studies, I am required to follow a certain number of women through their pregnancies, birth and into the newborn period. This is known as the Folllow Through Journey. The program enables Student Midwives to gain first hand Midwifery experience while studying.

What does the program involve?

You will recieve midwifery care from a Qualified Midwife and myself in a supporting role. I will provide one-to-one support during your pregnancy, birth and early parenting journey while obtaining the life experience I need to become Midwife. You are free to withdraw from this program at any time.

How can you become involved?

If you are less than 35 weeks, are birthing your baby at the Mater and are interested or would like more information on the program, please PM me or email me at doulasara@hotmail.com.

Love and light to you.
x

*Please note that I will be going back to Townsville for the Uni break. I will not be in Brisbane from the 30th of November to the 20th of February. If you are due in this time, and still interested in the follow-through journey, please let me know and I can pass your details on to one of the other Midwifery students practicing at the Mater.*

Default For all melbourne mums due before Feb 2010!

Hey there all you mums, dads and families expecting a new addition (or more!) to the family within the next few months!

I am a friendly and easy going midwifery student wondering if anyone wants some (free!) pregnancy and/or birth support?

I live in Melbourne and require 7 more women to participate in a program that all mid students must complete before graduating in Australia. I would LOVE to graduate in Jan or Feb of next year and get out there and start working full time with women and babies but I still have a little way to go.

If anyone is willing to help out and/or wants some support and pregnancy information please let me know!

It involves spending just a few hours with me before and after the baby is born (and during labour and birth if you wish). This is a great opportunity for mums to prepare and discuss their feelings about pregnancy, labour, birth, parenting etc and debriefing afterward!

My email is abbysandercock@gmail.com

Thanks!
