| | Calling all Yummy Mummies to be in WA
Hello, i am a wife, a mum to a gorgeous 3 year old girl and living in WA, in Perth's northern suburb of Kinross and now fulfilling my 4th dream.....to become a midwife!!
Curtin University have finally brought the direct entry BSc Midwifery to WA after a number of years waiting and i am priviledged to be a part of the very first intake!! It has been my dream since the age of 11 to be a midwife and i have now begun!
I am therefore looking for some lovely pregnant ladies and their families in my area to acquaint myself with, who would be willing to allow me to be a part of their amazing pregnancy journey. I am required to attend and observe 2- 3 antenatal visits, visit postnatally and (ONLY IF parents-to-be are fully comfortable with the idea), possibly attend the birth. Everything I experience or document will remain confidential and my role would be of support, encouragement and observation at this stage of my training, NOT a replacement for other health professionals.
I consider it an absolute priviledge to be able to involve myself in such a personal, memorable, life-changing period of peoples lives and would be eternally grateful to anyone who feels that they could allow me this window in to their life.
I have documentation on this 'Follow Through Experience' requirement of my course and would be happy to forward interested parents a copy, and can put you in contact with my Unit Leader at Curtin should you wish to verify these details.
Please post me a reply or send me an email at either ozbex79@yahoo.com.au or rebecca.haines@student.curtin.edu.au
Many thanks!!

HI Everyone, My name is Relle and I am currently in my first year studying a Bachelor in Midwifery at Australia Catholic University in Melbourne.
I am a Mum to 3 gorgeous boys aged 4,2 and 8 months and also a fully qualified Doula.
I am looking for some wonderful pregnant ladies that would like to participate in the Follow Through Journey program, and share this amazing and miraculous time with me as I go through my studies. As part of my requirements, if possible, I am required to attend some ante natal vists, and if you feel that it would be beneficial, I am also able to attend your birth.
I truly believe the best way to achieve a positive and memorable birth experience is through education and support. Pregnancy and Birth is all about choices and I feel that every single woman and her family, regardless of how they choose to birth she feel totally supported in any choices they make. I am already honoured to have witnessed several births as a Doula, and I have such a passion for birthing women, that I have commited to midwifery and will continue to educate myself, so that I in turn can help any woman that I have the pleasure of supporting.
If you are interested in having me follow you through your pregnancy, please either PM me or email me on info@supportedbirthing.com.au

| | Student midwife in SA
Hi all!
I am a first year student midwife in SA looking to provide support for women in their pregnancy. I am studying midwifery because I love working with women and ultimately seek to support them in achieving an empowering birth experience. I have one son and that birth was a homebirth transfer to hospital and I had a great experience in both settings. Former librarian for the Active Birth Center in Glenelg, I am well read in current birth literature now with a library of my own and embrace new ways of doing things. Prior to study I was a practicing artist for 15 years producing hand drawn animation, so I suppose you could say I am a 'mature' (ha!) student. I like to think of myself as pretty relaxed with a good sense of humour. Come one come all I am open! |

| | The 'follow-through' experience with a student midwife/nurse & young mum! Hello ladies,
My name is Laura. I am 22 years old and I have a son who is now 2 and 1/2 years old. I am currently studying a double degree, Bachelor of Nursing / Bachelor of Midwifery at Deakin University in Burwood, Melbourne, and I am currently in my 2nd year, having completed 18 months of my 4 year course thus far.
I realise the 'follow-through' experience has been explained in previous posts, however here is my explanation. As part of my double degree, I am required to participate in what is titled a 'follow-through' experience with pregnant women. It involves me, as a student midwife, following women throughout their pregnancy, labour, birth and the postnatal period. The purpose of the experience is to provide a level of continuity of care/carer throughout the woman's childbearing experience via the student midwife, as well as providing the student midwife with a valuable learning experience to become an exceptional midwife in the future.
My vision of the childbearing experience, having gone through this myself, is that it is the most amazing experience a woman can have! Having another human being growing inside you while you provide this human being with everything it requires to survive, then giving birth and introducing him/her to the outside world, is an experience to be cherished and appreciated. You have created someone that relies on you completely for food, shelter, warmth, protection and LOVE, while you watch him/her grow and accomplish their own life skills....which is an extraordinary thing!
My vision of midwifery care is that childbearing is a natural experience that the woman's body is built for. Whenever possible, women should be able to have the least amount of intervention that is safe for herself and her baby, and be able to make her own choices and have these honoured whenever and wherever possible. The midwife's role is to support the woman and her family in achieving their goal....a healthy newborn!
If you are currently pregnant and would like to partake in the 'follow-through' experience with me or would like more information about the program, please message me or email me at lccu@deakin.edu.au and I can provide you with the official 'follow-through' experience brochure provided by Deakin University. It contains an overview of the 'follow-through' experience and the positive aspects of the program, in addition to the contact details of the head lecturer of the midwifery component of the double degree at Deakin University should you have any questions I may be unable to answer.
Thank you for taking the time to consider the 'follow-through' experience and I wish you all the best with your pregnancy, labour, birth and your exciting future ahead!
Warm Regards,
Laura. |

hiya
I am not sure how this works but i am interested in a trainee midwife. I have a few questions etc. I am in the western side of Melbourne and have been going to Sunshine Hospital.
I am classed as high risk due to being pregnant with twins.
I have 3 boys (6, 4 & 1). My first two labours were all natural (at 8lb 1oz & 10lb 6oz) and my last i used gas ( i was induced at 36 weeks - 7lb 9oz). I was induced due to Gestional Diabetes on insulin, borderline Pre - e (blood pressure started to climb as well as spilling protein).
my email is angelraelz@optusnet.com.au
