yeah luck of the draw but as i said if u have a normal birth with no complications you can go home after 6 hrs so no need to worry about a room as you will go home from birth suite.

whats the birth suite like? i know i will find out next week but im still curious.
Are there showers you can use for pain relief and do you know if they have the sterile water injections?
is having a single room an option if you've had a c/s (at the last hospital i birthed at you had to have a shared room if you'd had a c/s). Hmm i think theyd be likely to be talen by people going private at a public hospital anyway.

Every birth suite has its own bathroom with toilet and shower!!

Yes sterile water injections are down there not all staff do them but i know your midwife does as I have done them with her a few times!!

It doesnt matter cs or nvd just depends on whats avaiable but of course as your midwife to try and get u a single room.

Rus2 - did you go on saturday?
I did, the midwife who took it seemed really nice
she said something about renovations and maybe moving downstaris..i hope iots done by the time I go in to labour, it sounded great. But really its the quality of care that matters the most.

you must not have medicare to recieve this. As it is free to all people with medicare

Are you an international student? do you have private health cover?

4 days stay is a lot they charge this much but you generally get money back as only stay a day or 2

i didnt have my medicare previously but now i will be getting it in some days. if i tell them that. what are the normal circumstances on paying bills and all as a public patient? will i still recieve a bill for the room i have to stay in at the hospital? or a public patient has no private room?

once you have medicare you wont pay for room or care at all.

You probably will need to pay for appointments so far before medicare. Make sure you notify them as soon as you get medicare

i can tell you that no woman day after a cs would be forced out. They may have requested discharge but even then they would not happy to let someone go home so soon.

The lady who shared my room with me 2 years ago begged to go home the day after her c/s. It took her hours and hours of speaking to different nurses and doctors and even then they didn't want her to go.

Mind you, there was not a spare room in birthing OR Maternity available. In the end she had to discharge herself (this was her 7th baby)

yes feeb and mabello are right. i met my midiwfe tommorow and she was telling me that no one forces you out from here, even if there's less space. they make the patient stay there until needed.and when its some ladies 4th or 5th baby then only she's discharged earlier.

I actually opted to stay an extra night after my caesar as I was still concerned about my pain and they had no problem with that

Default sunshine hospital

joining this thread a little late, but in case anyone is still reading. a close friend of mine just gave birth at sunshine after being in labour for nearly 3 days, and was told almost immediately after giving birth that she would be discharged in 4 hours as there were no beds! she was horrified as she was exhausted as you can imagine.

i dont think this is a reflection on staff but rather the pressure this hospital is under - just thought people should be aware of this reality.
