Wow Simone, she was certianly in a hurry!
I thought thats what the change may have been, i was told at my first app that it was going to happen, apparently they change these sorts of things all the time (thats what my MW said) I know they didnt have the colour teams when i had my DD, although that was nearly 13 years ago!!

hiya
oh yes thats what i wanted to know.. she told me in a strange way that there is no teams but didnt tell me what that meant..
so basically you get one midwife and a back up midwife is that right?
i have only been in australia for 3 years.. i had my two boys in new zealand so i am all new to the way things are run here..
i want to go with midwife.. and if they have changed to you get a midwife etc then that is like know your own midwife.. which is like what they have in new zealand.
thanks

Hi Angel,
Its exactly the same as it was, they just dont section it off in coulored teams. So you'll still see the same MW everytime you go (as long as its the same days) and yes for the back up one. Im guessing it would work the same to close enough to NZ's way? Have you seen one of them yet?

hiya
i havent seen anyone yet from sunshine... i only booked in on monday which i know is late.. but i miscarried last time so this time i didnt get u/s till 8 weeks to be sure and then when the doctor did the blood test and referal on thursday the 11th..
i then had a car crash on the 12th. we were ok but bascially totalled the car.. i had lots of bruising etc. so i was recovering from that. then on the wednesday the 17th we were meant to go up to sunshine to book in but we had no car so couldnt go..
then on saturday we went up as we borrowed a car and found out that its monday to friday and oh u are meant to call in...the only reason why we drove up was because the doctor said to just take it on up..
so i have had a busy and interesting couple of weeks.
the lady i talked to didnt really say when i would get the papers from the hospital all she said was that they are really behind in the paper work.. and another lady in the birthtalks forum said that she is still waiting for paper work and she is 14weeks not sure when she booked in..
so its going to be a long wait.

OMG! You poor thing, doesnt sound like you've had a good few days! At leats your all ok, thats the main thing.
I know with me, i got the referal when i was about 8w rang the hossy and booked in, they sent me paper work about one or two weeks later but my first appointment was when i was about 14 - 16 weeks, a long wait. You should get two appointments, one with doctor (across the rd from the hossy) and then one for the MW's. I was in there two weeks ago and they were really busy, looked like they were also training ladies on the reception desk (i had to wait over 10 minutes in the que! Sore feet.) All the MW's in there are really nice and helpfull.

Wow angel, what a busy couple of weeks. Imglad you and bub are ok though. Is it possible for you to go to another hospital?? When SIL had her baby at sunhine, they were so busy she almost gave birth on the chair they left her in (ina waiting room or something) and when she finally delivered in the labour ward, they left her in that room because there was nowhere else to move her too..
I had Anneliese at the Womens, and it was wonderful. Even the food was edible!! Or there's the Western in Footscray??

you dont see the same midwife all the time. You are not allocated one in particular. You just see whoever is there on the day. You can choose to go priavately with your own obstetrician which then costs a lot more.

A couple of days ago when I went in to Sunshine after the Physio exercise class, I went up to the Mat ward to see a MW cos the baby had slowed right down and was hardly moving. My class teacher told me which desk to go to in there, and she said the "red reception desk", but its now the only one in there I think. Old habit I guess.
They then sent me over to the Labour Ward at the other end of the floor, past the women's clinic and the double doors were closed. The sign said to press the buzzer and to be patient, but I think I waited nearly 10 minutes before a visitor came out and I let myself in. Not real impressed with that one, as I could see the MW's and others moving behind the doors. I would hate to have been waiting there in labour or some other pain!
However, when I was in, the MW who attended to me (also just happened to be the head one on for the night) was fabulous, and even changed one of my upcoming apts to Sunbury instead of having to go to Sunshine. She put off having a break to chase up all the monitoring stuff for me, and instead drank her coffee on the run.
Every time I've been, I've seen a different MW, but they do sometimes still refer to the colour teams (I was in green too).

Hi Netix,
I saw a MW in sunbury for my first appointment, then had to go into the hossy for the next as she couldnt fit me in in time, i was going to go back there and do all check ups with her but i got booked into the hossy again (didnt really mind). Now i just use it as a break to get out of the house and i do like the MW i've had the rest of the time!

Shell, I think that's Jenny at Sunbury. I like her. Once I forgot about my apt there, and she rang me to see where I was. I was at home eating my dinner.... :frown: But she waited 10 minutes for me to put on something decent and get down there, even though it was about 6.30 or 7 at night! I don't mind having to go to the hosp. but its nice having somewhere close to go! (Yesterday I rocked up an hour early for my apt at Sunbury- DER, so went shopping for an hour. I couldn't of done that at the hosp.)

She is lovely. I was only early cos I was having one of 'those' days. I did so many dumb things, all day. I misread my apt time when I was having lunch and thought it said 2.30. Not 3.30.
I am due on 17 February! Nearly there!

hiya
i am in werribee, and at the moment i am not sure if i should maybe change to the womens or something..
the only thing is i have fast labours.. 4 hours for the first and once waters broke on the second it was less than 4 hours i think... my last one was postior.. so a slow mover still is today but hes a cutie..
And as we dont have a car at the moment getting into town is a little difficult but taking 2 boys on the train is hard to
so i am not sure.. i think i will wait and see for a little and go from there

Im just trying to think... is sunshine the closest to you?? the western isnt far away from that... but if you have fast labours, im assuming you will either be jumping in a cab (if there's time) or calling an ambulance?
