Default Adelaide Public hospitals

I need to know some info and experiences of public hospitals in Adelaide. I am moving there in Jan/Feb with my little boy to be with family as my husband is going overseas with the Army for 8mths, and am due to have my 2nd baby on the 25th of May. I had my little boy here in Brisbane at RBWH and had a awesome experience. I had the most AMAZING midwife, I wish that I could birth here again cause I know what I am in for. I would like to have the same experience in Adelaide if I can. Anyone have any good birth experiences in the public system in SA?? Also what are the names of the hospitals?? I have no idea.
TIA
Nina.

In the northern areas, we have Lyell McEwin which is Public, there is also Modbury. I went to Lyell for all 3 of mine and couldn't recommend them enough.

But yes it will depend on what area you are moving to.

I had the most wonderful experience at the Womens and Childrens hospital. The hospital is in the city. I think you can go there even if you live out of bounds if you get a referral from your Dr (but not 100% sure on that one!). Antenately I went to great education sessions and aqua physio. Sometimes you have to wait a while in the clinic for your appointment, they seem to run late a lot but it didn't really bother me - I just expected it IYKWIM. The birth itself was amazing - had a wonderful midwife who really helped us through. She had total faith in my body and was just great. I got what I wanted from the birth experience - a very healthy baby. In the ward the midwives were great too. I got lots of help with breastfeeding and they also have a breastfeeding unit you can go after bubs is born to help you further. Can't say enough good stuff hun - I will definately have my next bub - if I am lucky enough at the WCH.
I hope you have a great birth too!

I had a horrible experience with the Womens and Childrens Hospital for DS (we submitted a formal complaint for that one), but it was slightly better for DD (as she was prem @ 31 weeks and had all the care she needed there, but my care was not all that great). Both were c/s's and the surgeries were all sweet and went off without a hitch.

I'm thinking I may head out to the Lyell Mac for number 3...

WCH and Flinders both have MGP programs which I hear great things about.....not sure if the previous posters went through this or other care arrangements but it may be an option depending where you end up living.

Modbury doesn't do births anymore. I believe they still do antenatal appointments though.

I have had good experiences at the womens and childrens. Not for a birth, just with some issues with my current pregnancy.

I have heard good things about Lyell McEwin.

Hi Rusty

Flinders Medical Centre is located in the southern suburbs but has quite a large catchment area, so depending on where you move to it could be an option for you. I can highly recommend the Southern Midwifery Group Practice program they run. Its midwife led care, with an option to birth in their Birth Centre rooms. You do need to fit their criteria though - low risk pregnancy etc etc.

I went through the program with DS - can't talk more highly of the midwives. I didn't birth in the BC though, I had to be transfered as DS was breech when I went into labour so c-section for me unfortunately. But I still got all the follow up care post natal at home, with my primary midwife.

They have just re-developed their Labour & Delivery rooms and Birth Centre suite, so its all brand spanking new too!

If you're interested, I would be phoning them and asking a few questions and maybe put your name down? They have limited places available.
