Default Dr Lovell and Nepean Private

Just wondering if anyone has had recent experiences with Dr Lovell or the Nepean private hospital? Some old threads indicate the private is not that great but maybe things have changed in the last few years?

I have no choice I have to go there....

Hi there,
Just came across ur post....

I can say nothing bad about Dr Lovell, all 100% positive n praise, I highly recommend her.
One of BF's has been seeing her for just over 6 yrs n always complimented her, then when I became pregnant in August last yr I immediately called n booked in with her.
Unfortunately my baby suffered from a rare condition that was discovered at my 12wk scan n Dr Lovell was ever so sympathetic but still so professional explaining alot of things in easy to understand terminology to my DH & I.
I was booked into Nepean Private n my baby was delivered at 17wks, the procedure did not go according to plan, I ended up being in labour with my angel for over 42hrs n then ended up in surgery...
This was no ones fault, no the hospital n def no Dr Lovell, it was just my body, my angel didn't want to leave me, throughtout my entire stay in hospital I can not fault anyone, the midwives were so fantastic, gentle n warm, even making sure my DH wasa comfortable, had a bed with me, was feed etc. Dr Lovell was called in many times throughout the night n day, to check on me, explained everything that she was doin, n informing me of my options.
For such a terrible n traumatic experience that my DH and I went through I can not once fault either the hosp or Dr....

So much so that when i discovered that I was preg again in June this yr I immediately called Dr Lovell's office n booked straight in with her, I'm classed as high risk now so have lost count of how many times I have been seeing her since June, I look forward to each appointment as she is so thorough n reassuring, once again will be at the Private. (I am now 22wks)

I had my now 3yr old son at Nepean public when i left said i would never go back, the delivery staff were fine but once on the ward it was sooooo terrible.

Sorry this is so long, i guess i just really wanted to let u know how I feel, how have u been finding Dr Lovell?

xxx

Which Dr Lovell do you mean hun? I know there is also a John Lovell. I've not seen him but one of the obs in his practice, but I've heard nothing but praise.
I had the Dragon at Nepean Private and I don't really have an opinion on it. It was no worse or better than the public hossy where I had the little guy this year.

Hi Wannabemum,

Thanks for the reply, I am finding DR Lovell to be very happy to explain things in plain english to myself and DH. She weighs me a lot which I dont like lol...but thats just me..As I near the end of my pregnancy she seems pretty keen on the idea of intervention if necessary which with this one being my first I think Id do anything she recommended as long as she explained the risks and benefits etc. I get to see my little one almost every time on the u/s machine as there was a small risk of complications (genetic) which seem to have luckily passed us by. Her staff are lovely too and always happy to answer any questions we might have.

Im sorry to hear that you had a hard time with the loss of your baby but Im glad to hear DR Lovell is compassionate and competent in those situations iykwim? I wish you a beautiful and trouble free pregnancy this time..congratulations

Hi Kim, I have heard both good and bad about the hospital aswell in some very old posts but was hoping to hear something good now lol...I thing the private would be just a bit nicer purely for the private room perspective..

Thanks for replying ladies !

Natty

Birthing-wise, I found little difference between public & private. But Private wins hands down for post-birth. With the private room, the food, and even personal interest from the staff. I couldn't wait to transfer back to private after being in public with my prem for a few days. The staff are just lovely, they remembered me from being there with DS, and the midwife that was our class instructor with DS popped in to see me when she heard I was there with DD, so I thought that was just lovely to be remembered like that. I've bumped into other members of staff out & about as well.

One thing I will say is make sure if you have a problem or a question.. ask the permanent staff.. not the temporary staff. I wasn't happy with some of the temp staff and actually reported it to my OB after having DS. There's usually a LC in the nursery or someone to help with feeding and they are usually welcoming to have you go in there and feed if you need to. I just found the Private hospital didn't feel hospital-ly like the public.

I don't know of your OB so can't help there. All the best with your upcoming birth tho!
