I just had time to read that article makes me soooooooooooooooooooo angry....... People who use IVF do it to achieve a lifelong dream of being parent no one does it if they don't have too..... I certainly would LOVE not to take fertility drugs, having internal u/s monthly, be told when to have sex every month or have some strange woman injecting sperm into me..... BUt i don't have a choice i would be happy with a child that has any colour eye, hair, nose shape, shape and size.......

Egg choice does have a place i believe in some ways for example, inherited life threatening diseases etc....

AFM i am soooooooooooooooooo GRUMPY at the moment OMG my poor DH can't say anything without me jumping down his throat i soooooooooo hope it means AF is about to rear her ugly head so we can get on with things.....

Hey guys, just checking into the new thread.

Am still thinking about what to do and whether to go for IUI next cycle.

Probably will.

Default Newie

Hey everyone,
I'm new to this thread, have just had my first AIH/IUI cycle (DAY 16 atm).
Whats the difference if any between AIH and IUI? I tell ppl im doing AI, but not sure which terminology to use exactly.

I plan on doing at least 3 cycles of AI until moving onto IVF. Was so worried bout doing the AI but once it was done realise it is no big deal - its simple. I did suffer with cramps about an hour after the insemination for about 5 hours but other then that feel really positive about the whole thing.

If anyone is lurking wondering whether or not to give it a go or are about to and are scared. I'd say give it a go.

I think i'l be a regular on here over the next few months if worst case senario happens and it doesn't work.

Default Welcome

Welcome mummawannabe,

This thread's in a bit of a flux at the moment because everyone is in various stages of progress - either with BFPs, taking a rest or getting ready to start a news cycle.

The good news is: there's plenty of evidence through actual results that IUI can work. I recommend you give it 4-6 goes before you review your treatment approach. It took 5 for me. We would have gone to 12 if need be (because our clinic agreed to treat us for a year).

Feel free to get on here and blab your heart out - most of us have and it's been a very supportive environment to do that in. When you're feeling down, there's always some here to help you find your way back to the bright side.

Big cheers
OP.

Welcome mummawannabe. I'm on my third round of IUI....with final bloody test this Friday 13 March! yukky!! While normally my clinic would recommend going to IVF next, we are seriously considering sticking with IUI - it's people like OP who make me want to try IUI again......you never know!!!

Hi Ladies and welcome Mummawannabe
It's great in here to get your thoughts on how many IUI's to try.

We are about to start round 2 but my specialist did think that we may have better chances with IVF since DH's sperm count is so up and down. Although from hearing peoples thoughts I think I want to try IUI a few times first.
DH is currently on tablets to quit smoking so hopefully when he gets off those his sperm count will improve and perhaps the IUI will work. That is what I am hoping.

B2B - sorry its not looking like a BFP but hang in there you never know and you can always try again. All the best x

for everyone

Good luck Loops......

Well i had my follow up appointment yesterday i mainly saw the nurse but Dr came in to confirm what the next step is going to be...... Im left a bit confused but i think im getting my head around it all.......

Basically my biggest issue is the endo coming back they would like to get on top of it asap...... So the plan (mainly cos i pushed it) is 2 more goes at IUI which could be 4mths of trying due to only 1 tube but could be less who knows... Then ill have treatment for the endo i can't remember what it is called i wish i had got them to write it down so i could look into it, but basically it puts me into menopause so stop the endo from growing for a couple of months, then we go straight into IVF cycle....

Im scared on many levels what if doing the 2 IUI cycles gives the endo to get hold again, and if i wait 2 IUI cycles then have the endo treatment we will be getting close to the end of the yr starting the IVF and then im not under the safety net after DEc IYKWIM!!!!!

I think our plan will be seeing what side i O from this cycle if it is my right (the no tube side) then ill only do 1 IUI cycle, if it is the left side (good side) ill do 2 cycles of IUI as that will only be 3mths between now and doing the endo treatment......

I still havn't got my period Dr thinks it should come next week which will be 4 weeks from Op... If it doesn't i have provera to take but ill be holding off a week or 2 cos otherwise ill be Oing the week leading up to Easter or easter weekend and the Lab is closed from 6th March until Tues after easter...... Fingers crossed my period shows on Wed or Thur cos it will be perfect for IUI timing around 2nd or 3rd April if anytime after that we won't be able to go ahead with IUI yes we can try naturally but that doesn't seem to work......

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ok off my chest sorry girls.....

Hey everyone,
I'm a newy to the whole assisted conception having done my first AIH or IUI cycle (DAY 16 atm). (I have been on Letrozole alone for 7 cycles prior to this)
On my Day 12 scan they found a good sized follie on each ovary, plus a few other smaller ones. I never knew that you could ovulate from each ovary within one cycle and dr said it wasn't normal, but not abnormal.
Of course i then came home and googled it till i could google no more and just wondering how common it actually is? Has anyone here experienced it on there Day 12 scans?
If i double ovulated this cycle (was on letrozole to induce ovulation) will that be expected with me each cycle or is it a rare thing that may only happen a couple of times in my life?
Hope someone can help....
Fingers crossed for everyone enduring the assisted conception and all it brings.....good luck to those on the TWW.
Baby2Bee: I had my Day 21 (Progesterone) blood test on Friday 13th....is that what you were referring to?

Welcome Mummawannabe......... Firstly good luck with this cycle..... Secondly i have heard you can have a follie on both sides i havn't experienced it myself, but for the past 2 cycles 1 being IUI and 1 being on clomid, i had 2 follies in 1ovary... i fell pg on my 1st IUI but unfortunately i had a ectopic pg.... Im sure it is fine great to have 2 eggs to catch double the chance is never a bad thing.........

B2B how did your bt go?????

AFM still no af fingers and toes crossed she shows up Wed or Thurs if not then not for another 2 weeks.....

Default Double O

Hi Mummawannabe!

It is totally normal to ovulate like it's going out of fashion when you are on fertility treatment. That is the whole point!

On IVF, I dropped 16 eggs - 10 from one side and 6 from the other. On IUI my 2nd stim cycle produced three follicles - two on the right and one on the left. On the fourth we had one on either side. All this was done with Puregon.

So it's totally normal - and rest assured, it's what you want to have happen.

Janeo - my thoughts are with you lovely. Just wondering if there's any reason why your FS didn't recommend you go straight to IVF? That last tube is super precious...

Re the drug induced menopause - don't worry about this - Synarel performs this exact same function in IVF treatment so they can lay a whole bunch of synthetic hormones over the top - thus producing a whopper harvest like 16 eggs. I was very frightened the drugs would bring on an early menopause - but they didn't. AF came back as normal and everything went on as if it had never happened.

You sure are going through such a big challenge and my heart goes out to you! Take very good care of yourself.

:-)
OP.

Default Healthy guys

Loops, I wanted to put something in for you too - our challenge was also male factor, and in the end we went to DI. But in the process we improved my DH's stats by 100% (just not enough to work). We both really believe motility and morphology responds extremely well to naturopathy. If you're in Sydney and you'd like a recommendation, send me a private message. But here are a few tips:

1. Clean out DH's diet. It must be rich with protein (no more than three serves of lean beef a week) and leafy green vegetables. Also brocoli, zuchini, peas, snows peas, beans, spinach - other thing green (although not iceberg lettuce ).
2. Eliminate all alcohol, coffee and cola.
3. Take vitamins: zinc, CoQ10, MetaB by Metagenics, selenium, Herron EPA DHA fishoil, Nourishing Flora Probiotic and also something called Digestaid by Eagle.
4. A herbal tonic but you've got to see a naturpath for that.

The basic principal is the get the body working like a clean machine. Don't laugh, but if DH is a gas producer (like mine), you'll get a lot less of that on the above!

Good luck!
OP.

PS - guys, I'm doing fine. And we are expecting a boy!

Hey OP... Im not sure i guess that if worse case happens and i lose another tube i can go to IVF then, so i guess going the less invasive treatment 1st and then go there is my best option for the time being especially falling pg after 1st go at IUI, and now my endo is gone.... There wasn't any endo or scarring in my tube so it was just one of those things unfortunately......

Thanks for the advice i was actually wondering if it was the same sort of thing after talking to a friend who is donating eggs at the moment... So im feeling better about the whole thing.......

I was hoping my period would have shown her head wed or Thurs but nothing GRRRRR, so now im back to hoping she stays away for at least 2 weeks, if not then ill start the provera just got to get past being due for the IUI the week before easter and easter weekend.........

B2B - GL with everything and we hope to see you back in here soon. Take care of yourself x

Janeo - Hoping still that AF comes at the right time for you. All the best x

Mummawannabe - Hope things are still going well for you with the IUI

OriginalP - thanks so very much for your advise. We kind of knew a lot of that but I think it really needs to sink into DH so I will show him what you said and he may try a bit harder. The biggest thing is the alcohol I think.
He's on Menevit which has a few of those things but yes I think there are a few others he needs to be taking. I'm actually in Country Eastern Victoria but my uncle is actually a naturapath and yes I think it is about time I booked a proper appointment with him. I havent to date because it felt a bit strange but I should just get over that.
Thanks again, so thoughtful of you
