Hi!
I'm new to the forum (or any posting for that matter) and thought I'd just say, "thanks" for all the information shared thus far about IUI. DH and I have been TTC for 2+ years and just started IUI#1 this month. It has helped so much to know we're not alone in this. My only "infertility friend" gave birth on the day we started IUI and finally admitted to ourselves that we are infertile. It's been a horrible couple of weeks, with one more to go before BT. We're trying to stay positive and reading all that has been written in this thread has helped with that today. So thanks! Sal

Hi Sal
Welcome to the thread. Sorry to hear it has been so long, ive been trying for nearly 2 yrs now too. I just had my third cycle of IUI cancelled on me becoz we had to many follicles. The thing is most of them were on my right side which i have just found out is blocked. There were only 2 good folicles on my left side and 6 on my right side. Im annoyed that we were cancelled, but its their policy. Ive been having accupuncture and chinese herbs as well this month, so my guess is thats why it worked so well this cycle. We have decided to go ahead with having unprotected sex. Which is a little bit risky, but we have been going for so long and nothing has happened. So im now on the dreaded TTW as well. I just hope it goes quickly. If it dosent work this time weve been advised to go to IVF. Really was hoping not to have to go to IVF, but ya get that. Im feeling really positive this month! Good Luck! i hope your one of the lucky ones that gets it first time. for both of us.

Thanks for the welcome, chellie88. Good luck with TTC the fun way this month! It always amazes me that something I thought would be so simple (i.e. having kids) is so fraught with difficulty, and which only gets more complicated when your doing fertility treatments. Sorry that you had to cancel your cycle. I was injecting puregon 50iu and we got three eggs, which my FS did say would be too many to continue, but our lovely nurse said we would pretend it was only 2 1/2! I like her so much. Right now I'm trying to ignore all the fun pregnancy symptoms I have, which I know from reading are more to do with from the pregnyl that I have been injecting. I'm trying to use it for my education..."so this is what it feels like when my body is pregnant ---- wait to feel like this again before reaching for the HPT!!" Ha ha. You know it's tough when you've got to remind yourself to be positive.
Also, YAY for the birth announcement - there is no better place to hear of them than in an IUI thread....aaahh hope....

How wonderful for OP! Lovely news for someone who has helped us all so much DH and I went to see our fertility specialist a couple of weeks ago and discussed our first IUI next month. Anyway, turns out we won't be needing to do it, as I got a positive test on Thursday night .... not sure what went right this month, but finally it has happened and we are really excited.
I just wanted to say thank you for the advice and support in my short stay in this thread, and a very good luck to everyone TTC here |

Thats great news about OP! so exciting! do you know what she had??
Sal, i know what you mean about how hard it can be. After years of trying not to fall pregnant, and all the info you get about protecting yourself, who would guess that it could actually be hard to fall pregnant. I fell pregnant by accident when i was 16 (and have a beautiful healthy son) and never thought it would be hard when i wanted to have more. So im finding it really difficult to deal with. As for the pregnyl i hate it, its like being pregnant but you get nothing out of it. They gave that to me last week and my boobs are sooo saw, im so tired, i feel a little woozy and im peeing like a pregnant women.. lol Im hoping that this is my month i feel so positive. Mind you im only 4 days into the TWW. It has to be the hardest two weeks just waiting for the blood test. The best advise i can give you is DO NOT poas. I got my hopes up once from a HPT, but it turned out it was still the pregnyl in my system. Im testing on the 27.09 when do you test?? for all of us.
Loupy - CONGRATS thats is the great news! hoping for a H&H nine months ahead

chellie88 - thanks for the advice re poas. I have been reading a lot today and have been thoroughly warned off any temptation to do it. I will have a BT on Friday 21st if AF doesn't appear, even I can be patient until then. I hope that the pregnyl symptoms disappear for both of us and are replaced by pregnancy symptoms real soon!

Hi girls,
I'm new to this thread, this is my first month of IUI. We've just finished 3 months of OI with no success, have a 'review' appt with the fs early Sep so the clinic suggested we do a round of IUI while we wait!?!? I figured it can't hurt???
I'm also doing acupunture this month, am eating a LOT of veges, cut out all caffine and exercising 3-4 times a week. If nothing else, at least I might lose a couple of kg's!
Good luck to everyone here!
Also, is there anything in particular I should know about doing IUI? Can I drive myself home after the insemination?

Hi sharon1977 Good luck with the IUI, I also had my first one this month. I found it pretty straight forward, DH did his part first thing in the morning and then 1 1/2 hrs later I had the insemination. It was similar to a pap smear as an experience, and I had some cramping afterwards for about 2 days similar to what happens to me after a PS. I would have been completely fine to drive myself home afterwards, but DH had come in with me so I let him drive If you have any other questions I'm happy to answer them. GL!

Hi Sharon
Welcome and good luck with your IUI. Just thought i would let you no that with the IUI they usually do the insemination within 2 hours of your DH doing his "thing" so the sperm have a good chance. But check with your fs, they may book you in the afternoon and assume you can have a sample done at that time. Make sure you ask lots of questions though, nothing is silly to ask about.
Sal how are you going? have you POAS yet??? congrats if you havnt, your stronger then me! not long now only 2 days. i have my fingers crossed for you!
afm i still have the same symptoms from the injection. But this morning i had a strong sickness come over me, it wasnt like what i would usually feel. But im only 7dpo so surely its to early for any real symptoms. and my boobs were starting to feel better but now there getting sore again, i have also been peeing heaps often maybe its all just still from the injection... oh and (tmi) im a little constipated as well. so im confused. Im feeling really positive about this month though so keeping my hopes high!
Good luck to all!!!!
(sorry for the long post)

Hi all!
Well I'm in a complete mess. AF came today, 14dpiui right on schedule. Miserable. Strangely did not expect it to come, expected that I was pg, kept getting so many symptoms. Stupid body. Rang FS clinic to arrange 2nd IUI. POAS, don't know why. Saw a very, very faint second line. Was I pg and not anymore? Am I still? Does it mean anything?? Going crazy.
chellie88 - sorry to hear that you're so distracted from study and that you have so many symptoms still (although hopefully they are pg symptoms). Not long until you can test huh? Are you tempted to POAS?

Fingers crossed for anyone else who is still waiting to test.

Hi all
Chellie - thanks so much for your encouragement, it is so helpful. I'm not sure why I was so upset, it's the downside to hope, I think. Anyway, I rang our clinic on CD1 and arranged to start our second IUI straight away. I'm getting the feeling that we are lucky to be able to do another round as some people seem to have to wait between rounds. Our clinic is very new (July '09) and is quite small and personal compared to the other clinics available, we have been very happy with their approach. I was too upset on Friday to pick up the drugs (they're so very kind and I Hate crying in public!), so DH will pick them up on Monday for me. Good luck for Wednesday, I'll be thinking of you.
Sharon - did you work out a plan for Monday? It sounds like it might be a very hectic day for you - good luck with everything! Sal
