Im going through SIVF Newcastle and here is a quick quote on what i will be paying:

One of Rego fee $100 (includes all the nurse assistance ultrasounds, counsellor etc etc)
IVF Cycle (includes ICSI) $4070
TESA $500
Lingard Hospital Bed $1120 (woman)
$300 (male unrefunded)
Synarel approx $150

and after the first $1039 we can recieve the 80% rebate from Medicare

Also once you reach $1039 80% of everything after that will be refunded by Medicare, also if you dont have PHI the hospital day fee (e.g $1120) can be claimed on your next tax refund, by memory i think it is 20%, not a great deal but hey every little bit counts when it comes to this expensive rollercoaster...

Im still confused as to whether or not the Injection drugs are included in all of this though nothing extra was said about it, so i just assumed it is included in the IVF Cycle cost...????? Can any help?????

We have had 5 AIH cycles, all costing approx $800 upfront, 1st attempt was about $500 out of pocket, 2nd attempt approx $400 out of pocket, but from the 3 attempt found it was only costing about $50 out of pocket.

This year we have attempted our first ICSI cycle, no success yet. But all up it cost us $5300, got my rebate back from Medicare last week, it worked out it cost us $2150 out of pocket, including the rebates we received from our private health fund. However got another bill for $300 for the embryo freezing (haven't paid this yet, so not sure what we can claim back).

Waiting for a phone call about what the next stage of using that frozen embryo is.
I would like to know what costs we're up for with this procedure. We are going through the Queensland Fertility Group.

I'm a little afraid to sit down and add up what our first cycle cost us... Didn't help that I didn't realise the hospital charges for the EPU weren't included, and our PHI doesn't cover assisted conception. Although, I must say that overall it wasn't actually that bad - helps that my DH is a bit of a scrooge so there were savings that I didn't know existed that went towards a lot of it. We went through Next Generation Fertility here in Sydney - no extra charges for ICSI, which was great. Extra charges for blastocyst culture ($600) and they're talking about using polscope if we get to another one - $400, but they say it should reduce the fragmentation rates and give us more embryos in the end.

Bec7, I'm afraid there's no medicare rebate on the freezing fees, don't know if you may get anything from health insurance though.

Nope medicare doesnt pay anything with freezing costs...it has no item number. Must remember to pay my freezing bill that turns up every 6 months

Does anybody know what the costs for the actual usage of the frozen embryo? I imagine it will be less then the ICSI costs, but would like to know what i need to save up for. I thought it might be $2000 ish up front? But have no clue. I'm not even sure what will be involved, have to wait til next week to find out. I feel very up in the air right now.

It will depend on your individual clinic, Bec.

For mine, frozen embryo thawing and transfer costs $995 upfront, with actual out of pocket cost being around $200 when you reach the medicare safety net limit. Our upfront fee for the IVF cycle was $2990 - but this did not include some of the drugs, the blastocyst culture, and the hospital and related expenses for the egg collection. It should give you some idea though.

Just be very careful in what information you get! I know on one I was looking at to see what ball park figure things would cost. They put the starting cost, then the amount it will cost you out of pocket BUT This out of pocket cost was when the couple have already reached the safety net. It does make a lot of difference.

In case anyone is interested I paid $1,937.50 for my first IVF/ICSI cycle. This included a one off admin fee of $230.00 (no medicare)and an admission to Royal Womens of $262.00 (no medicare). This $1,937.50 is after the medicare rebate, and after the safety net too. Obviously some of this will be tax deductible at the end of the financial year. We did not have PHI.

My second IVF/ICSI is costing a lot less now that we have reached the safety net limit. Should be less than $1,000 including hospital admission and anaesthetist.

We are going with QFG

Their Registration fee is $185.

A standard IVF cycle - $5500 IVF/ICSI - $5880

Our first 6 months embryo storage is included in the initial price, which is then $150 per 6 months afterwards.
It also includes 2 packets of progesterone pessaries and 2 of Crinone.

Dr's fees ontop of this are approx $680.
Day theatre fees for IVF are $795, and $240 for transfer.

Anaesthetist's fees are approx $500.

Our nurse said we can pay our big fee just before we go in for EPU, and when we receive the other bills, we can take them to medicare and our PHI and then pay any difference if there is any.
They say we will be approximately $1845 out of pocket.

Synarel is $110 (I'm getting this for approx $30 because of Endo)
Ovidrel is included in the price for an EPU cycle ($100)
Pregnyl also included for EPU

I just got my bill from MIVF for my current cycle and they have included a new schedule of treatment costs effective from 1st July - of course they have gone up! I have included the out of pocket costs after the safety net has been reached in brackets.

plus anaesthetic fee

My PHI covered all costs for EPU and refunded $50 per bottle of synarel.

Hey Cheryl, I was wondering about claiming the Synarel. I've just found my receipts (have got 2 bottles in the last 3 weeks due to not be able to get it here and having to travel 200klms to get it) and will take them into my PHI on Friday while claiming for my dentist visit.
At least what I hopefully get back I can use for my next couple of bottles

Well, I went into our health fund, and they won't pay up on my Synarel because I didn't have to pay full price for it to begin with, but that's ok, $30 a bottle is fine with me
