The Cost involved with IVF

Hi Megan. We aren't sure yet. I have to wait until after my lap (hopefully next month) before we know exactly what we are facing.

I guess at this stage cost of a full stim cycle and perhaps ICSI (although it's not anticipated at this stage that we'll need this)??

Any info would be great at this stage. I have already been to IVF Aust, my FS there is doing my surgery and if need be I'd like to stay with them for IVF but of course cost is a major concern.

Hi Willow, I have had to pay $2434 for a standard IVF cycle so far. (I will out of pocket up to about another $1000 when I go in for egg pick up next week.) ICSI at my clinic is an extra $500 on top of the standard IVF fee. I'm not sure how much it varies from clinic to clinic though, but at least that gives you a rough idea.
Don't forget about the medicare safety net too. Once you have spent over $1500 you get I think it's 80% of all out of pocket medical costs back.

ICSI is about $700 at my clinic (QFG) and don't forget that the medicare safety net is $1500 spent on out of hospital expenses. So Day theatre charges etc are not included in the addition.

I am in Western Sydney as well & have just had my little ICSI baby.
I paid $2990 for ICSI at Next Generation Fertility at Parramatta.
We got about $1400 back from Medicare. This cost was all inclusive we just had to pay extra for consults with the Dr, these ranged from $130-$200 per visit.
My private health fund covered my day surgery costs.

anybody out there know the costs of ivf through concept in perth? a friend went through it last year and said she only paid $1300 as they supplied the medicare rebate there and they didnt have to pay the initial amount. i think i will be doing the same procedure IVF with FET as my husbands little swimmers are fine and i have had tubal ligation.Does this sound correct?

Hi Ladies, I went with Syd IVF at Liverpool (Liked the Doctor there better than ones close to home at Norwest) anyway cost was $12258 for stim including icsi and pgd which we ended up not being able to do 2nd cycle was $7258 including icsi. Got 4400 back medicare first time and 5400 back 2nd time. With Medibank Private and had to wait more than 6 weeks first time to get 700 back. Don't know this time as it has been almost 10 weeks waiting for rebate. The amount did not include retrieval for husband which was totally out of pocket and cost us $2000 which includes storage. I have just started my first ICSI cycle at SIVF, Canberra and the costs I have been quoted(taking into account the medicare rebate) are:

Assisted Reproductive Services: $3,381
Planning and Management: $126.50
Oocyte Retrieval: $336.45
Semen Prep: $95.15
Transfer of Embryos: $240.25

Total for SIVF: $4,179.35

On top of that is the drugs (as I have just started, I only have the cost of the Lucrin, which was $197) and the surgery costs, which are mostly covered by private health insurance. In total, the surgery is going to cost us about $346.

Other costs include Embryo freezing, which is $632 for 12 months. Although it sounds like a lot, we know it will all be worth it in the end!!

I am going through City Fertility in Brisbane standard fee's are $6000 with ICSI a further $350 and then the drugs, and on top of that my specialist fees and teh anaethetist.. Fortunately my very expensive private health insurance will cover the hospital!!

Does anyone know if there is any difference in price between Melbourne IVF and Monash IVF?

Also - can you claim your out of pocket expenses at tax time if they exceed the $1500 (which of course they probably will).

i don't know about the price difference between Monash and Melbourne IVF.
I am with Melbourne IVF and all i know is that they only charge you the out-of-pocket. They sort the other bit out with Medicare and then you send the medicare chq to them.
It's nicer only putting $1700 on the credit card rather than the whole fee !
If you were interested to find out i would ring them both and ask. The Melbourne IVF accounts number is 9473 4422. They are very knowledgeable and nice.

Morgan MIVF is alot cheaper than Monash. If you google MIVF it will have the pricing schedule on there. Glad you found help with Dr G he made our little girl

Nice to see a few of you are with MIVF and also Dr Gronow who I am also with i am going for a lap next friday and then on to IVF. we are yet to speak with accounts so is there anything extra on top of that 1700 such as bed and surgery charges?

Hi Rachael,
Yes, there is more to pay than just $1,700. I will tell you my costs, but bear in mind you might have a different protocol. MIVF has a one off admin fee ($230) and I have extra for ICSI as well ($700). Plus there is the cost of the Synarel (I paid about $90), and I had to start on the BCP as well (about $30). Then of course the bed fee (depending on where you end up going (Freemasons $750 or Royal Women’s $250) - no Medicare rebate on that) and the anesthetist which we have been told will be approx $240 (before Medicare rebate). If you have PHI I think it covers some of the anesthetist and the bed costs (I think?) and of course it all depends on if you have reached the Medicare safety net or not then you get more back too I guess. There is an embryo storage fee of $90 per six months - but we aren't anywhere near that yet.
Plus you have to buy enough chocolate (or other treats ) to get you through this rollercoaster journey.
That's my basic list but of course once you get started the path can veer off depending on what works.
