Question Anyone had delayed period after Hysteroscopy & Laparoscopy?

Hi everyone
I have recently had a Lap & Hyst just to see if there was anything of note. I have no real symptoms but i had not been checked out thoroughly at my previous FC and my new FS wanted to rule that out. (My DH has y-chromosome deletions so previous FS's havent bothered to look much further). I was in & out of hosp within half a day, didnt have the pressure stockings which i thought was odd as everyone has spoken of them. Also, i got no feedback afterwards as to how everything went. I was very sore for a few days & the shoulder tip pain lasted a week. The day after the procedure i rang my Drs rooms to get some info and was referred to the FC. Late that avo they called back to say the surgery went fine - no details really.
I am now day 31 and have period like cramps but no bleeding. Is this normal? (i usually have a 26-28 day cycle) I realise they did D&C also and thus I could have a smaller endometrium, but would have thought it should have grown back somewhat by now.
I have started a down reg cycle on synarel & am waiting on CD1 to happen to start on the Puregon. Anyone had similar experience or any ideas?

I don't have any idea why your period might be late, but I just wanted to say good luck and I hope that you get the answers you're looking for soon.

I'm also waiting for AF to arrive so that I can start puregon for my first IVF cycle. I've been sniffing synarel for the past week.

Hugs
Sue xxxx

Hey Sue,
thank you - all the best for your cycle as well. I still have no sign of AF. The clinic just said to come in for a BT thursday if there is still no spotting at least. As i have to call at work i couldnt really elaborate or ask if this is normal after a D & C. Had a quick search on the net & there wasnt alot of reliable sounding info - but some ppl comment that they ddnt get AF back for months!! yikes!

Stargazer, I hope no information is good news after your op...because from my personal experience (1 lap and 1 hysteroscopy) both times, doctor came in to see me regarding how the procedure went even I am not fully recovered from general...there are also pictures to show me as well. So don't be afraid to chase them up, it is part of their duty to debrief how it went, what problems found and what the next step is.

Regarding your late AF, it is very normal. I had hys on Day 9 and my acupuncturist told me that expecting ovaluation to be late, hence a longer cycle. No surprise, I had lots of O cm during D19 (usually my cycle is 28 days so O around D14), so I am expecting AF to be late at least a week.

I don't want to worry you but seems you are getting onto the next cycle straight away, my FS told me at least to have one month recovering time to let uterus heal and mine was quite a minor procedure. Just to bring your attention, as you just don't want to go through a cycle when you are not physically recover, its hard enough IYKWIM.

Take care and I wish you all the best.

After my hyst and lap I had a small bleed a week later and then AF showed up 57 days after that, so I think it's fairly common. It took a few cycles for it to settle down back to around the usual 33.

I can only speak of my experience with a d&c - not the lap. I had a d&c last year after a missed m/c around 8 weeks. It took 6 weeks for AF to return - came back as per normal.

2 months ago I had a 2nd d&c b/c of a m/c at 5 weeks but my hcg kept rising thus they thought I had some retained material (as they say). Even though it was even earlier in the pregnancy than last time, I just got my period this morning 8 weeks to the day from my d&c. The wait was horrible...and this AF is very heavy and painful (not normal for me) but at least it's here.

All I can say is everyone is different. And even with the same person, the experience can differ. I did push for some tests and they were able to do BTs to see if ovulation had occurred or if it had been delayed. My first BT at about 6 weeks post d&c showed that I hadn't ovulated...and then my BT at 7 weeks showed I had just ovulated very recently (they tested a number of hormone levels each time) and my dr predicted I'd have my period by the end of this week...and she was spot on. If you are concerned, I suggest asking for some sporadic BTs to track ovulation. I was definitely pushy about getting some answers...sitting and waiting, well that just didn't sit well with me.

Good luck!!
