Default IUI Costs?

Currently looking into IUI, not yet been recommended but just exploring furture options and cannot seem to find any rough costings? Can anyone help me out? Have you been through IUI? What costs were involved? TIA xo

Our last IUI was in September 07 and up until that point (we did 6 cycles from June 06 until we got our BFP in October 07) it cost approx $750 each go. The first I use to get about half back from medicare, then by the last couple of tries it would work out that we would be about $50-60 out of pocket. But I'm sure prices have gone up (I know the IVF/ICSI has by a fair bit). I guess it'll probably also depend on your fertility specialists too - we did ours through Pindara on the Gold Coast.

HTH...Goodluck.

Thanks for the reply! Did you have or need private health cover?

PHI will depend on what drugs they put you on as to whether you can claim anything back - we never did

again, depending on the meds you use, the price varies greatly. i think our last cycle (aug/sept last year) was around 830 upfront - but with that one, we didn't have any down regulating first (hormonal control) as i was already flatlined naturally, and the "normal" drugs i'd have to stop my ovulating too early (cost around 100 a day for up to five days) weren't needed.

it is very much dependant on WHERE you cycle, what protocol is used and whether it's successful or not. luckily for me when i finally got my BFP, my body took over and produced enough progesterone on its own - had it not done, i may have been on meds up until 10=12 weeks which were costing up to 100 even 17 days!

Oh yeah, forgot about the drugs on top of that $750. The clomid script I did cost about $15, then I had to do the progesterone pessaries for the 2weeks, then continued til week 12 when I got the BFP- which I think was about $50 a bottle - which lasted about 2weeks maybe (depending on how many I had to do a day).

I found the PHI did not benefit for the IUI, but did save me a couple of hundred (which really wasn't much) when I did a cycle of ICSI.

But I'm still glad I had the PHI as it meant I could keep seeing my fertility specialist throughout my pregnancy and at the birth - as I wanted private for that.

Hi amy,
I have just started my second iui cycle it cost $1195 that includes all the drugs however not the progesterone if required and these can be quite expensive. Shop around for those as on lot cost me over $70 and the next lot cost me $35. You can claim these through your private health insurance. I have not had to use them for all my cycles only two of the six I have done. Best of luck in your TTC journey.

Hi,

It varies depending on what you need. It was going to cost myself and dh up to $1,200 for IUI but that was because we were going to use donor sperm. We would have gotten roughly $800 back. It all depends on what you need. If we needed the drugs it would have cost us more.

As it stands we are doing home insemination with a private donor.

My IUI will be roughly $2,800 because I need to access donor sperm and possibly from overseas.
