Default IVF Funnies. Positive funny thread.

Hi all,

Through the IVF process it can be painful, frustrating and sad. I thought I would try to put up a funny thread. A place to discuss a few of the funny things that have happened during your IVF journey.

I will start.

My funniest time I have had when starting the IVF journey was during our first appointment at the FS. We had the usual documentation of past history, going through the results of the tests and sperm tests. Then the FS wanted to measure my DH jewels. He got out a necklace looking thing with different size pebbles (testicle) sizes. Informed my DH to drop his dacks, then proceeded to hold my DH jewels in his hand and measure them against the device.

I took one look and burst out laughing. lol. I couldn't stop smiling I had to look away and I kept giggling to myself. The look my Dh shot me was priceless!!! He was so shocked that the FS handled his jewels. Results of that was that my Dh has normal size testicles.

Afterwards for the whole day I had a smile on my face and my DH knew why and said thats the one and only time he would ever let a man hold his jewels. lol.

That day was the funniest experience we ever had. Well I thought it was hillarious, my DH probably would describe the experience differently.

Redlady,

Love it - it is funny - but i could imagine how your DH felt but good to see they too have to have some embarrassing moments.

I had a couple of those
1. On my 3rd stim cycle went to theatre lay on the bed - FS came in and pulled back my gown and said -"no wonder we can't get you pregnant" i still had my undies on!

2. I did have an egg donor once (she had an ear ring you know where) anyway as she had her last egg retrieved the FS said "by the way we found that ear ring you lost"!
As we were with Syd IVF they don't put you under for the procedure - you are awake the whole time and i must admit it did crack us both up not to mention the nurses and the scientist. Its good when you get an FS with a sense of humor.

I think we need a thread like this - we have to laugh its good for us all.
Thanks for starting it redlady

I had to laugh also when FS pulled out the funny looking 'necklace' and proceeded to measure DPs testes. I ended up saying to FS 'is that what I think it is', it was pretty funny.
It's good to be able to see the lighter side of a very stressful process. Laughter sometimes is the best medicine!
What a great thread Redlady. Look forward to hearing from others.

OH Redlady that's priceless!!! This is just what I was looking for tonight...somewhere on belly belly is the top 10 give aways you've been trying to conceive for a long time...must try and find it.

Anyway, my FS is a bit of a character and tries to put us at ease, sometimes though I'm not sure what to think. Our very first appointment resulted us struggling not to snigger as he kept referring to our bits as 'boobies' and 'goolies' (not sure of spelling!) but I think it was the time when he was going to scan me and I was sitting on his chair, he looked me in the eye and said 'lie back and say 'Aahhhh'"!!

Great thread, thanks Redlady.

My FS is lovely but rather serious. I did manage to get a smile out of him at my 6th FET recently:
I've had trouble with the wrong size speculums (sp?), so now whenever I go for a FET I have to remind him that it's a "medium, plastic" speculum otherwise he tries the metal ones which are too uncomfortable.

Last time I said "medium, plastic" he called out to the embryologist, "Did you hear that? She knows which size speculum we have to use. It's about time someone got this woman a baby!" (I say, hear, hear!).

Thanks for the laugh ladies,
Seph

Oh my to begin with I was imagining him bringing out a ruler to measure length - imagine that! The plastic testicle necklace must be so funny - does the size of the testes make a difference then?

Thinking of this makes me smile...
Earlier this week I was triggering and I had all the viles of pregnyl meds and needles laid out. I'd just mixed the pregnyl with the large needle they supply for this before changing to the small one for injecting, when DH walked in and looked at it. His face reflected shock, awe and fear. I just laughed at his reaction and said 'no, this is not the one I will be using to inject'. He breathed a sigh of relieft and made comment that he was thinking I was a lot tougher than him.

When having another pelvic ultrasound, my FS asked me to take my bottoms off. I asked all of it. She laughed and said well I dont see how we are going to do it with your undies on. Afterall, I've had 2 I should know better.

My FS explained the sedation drugs for the egg retrieval as wine, saying some women need a little bit to get drunk & others need lots. About halfway through the procedure I was starting to get some breakthrough pain so he said to the nurse "I think Sarah needs another glass of wine now!" If only LOL
