Question On Becoming Birthwise (Ezzo) Has anyone read this?

Mods please move if I have put this in the wrong place . . . thanks

I have been looking at birth resources on the internet and was interested to come across a book by Ann-Marie Ezzo called Birthwise. I am not a fan of other books by Gary Ezzo as I don't think he is qualified to give the advice he gives (and a whole realm of other reasons) but as I am surrounded by friends and family who just adore Ezzo, I was wondering if anyone had read 'Birthwise' and what they thought of it.

Thanks

If you do a search for the word Ezzo in BellyBelly you will find loads of comments. Each to their own, I would not recommend this book to parents, rather The Science of Parenting (now renamed What Every Parent Needs to Know), How Love Shapes a Baby's Brain, books like that. The full range of books BellyBelly recommends is here.

Goodness, I haven't heard of Birthwise before. I wonder if they recommend that you be left in a room by yourself to cry.

Oooh, yes, sorry Townsville girl. Only joked because you'd said you didn't fancy his books.
In any case, you peaked my interest so I looked at some reviews. There were lots where it was obvious they hadn't actually read the book. The ones that interested me stated that the book didn't say anything different to what's already out there, but that there are many more better-written books that are more inspirational to birthing women.
Hope that's a little more helpful, mate.

That made me laugh Snacks - I don't mind making fun of Ezzo.

I couldn't find much info about Birthwise when I looked. I was really interested that not only are they baby experts, toddler experts, child experts, pre-teen experts and now teen experts now these completely unqualified people are experts on pg and birth.

Thanks for your responses

Is it because he wrote Babywise and Toddlerwise etc etc that he now has credit to put books out there about birth? I'm really honestly confused that he would write a book about birth???

TBH I had heaps of friends who favoured Babywise and suggested it to me when I was pregnant because they thought it was "Christian" (they saw it in Koorong). I started to read it, and I couldn't find the love. Dr Sears is a Christian paediatrician who has much gentler approaches.... I'd suggest reading his stuff

The wife wrote this one, so I suppose because she has actually given birth that gives her more authority than he has.
But not surprisingly according to some of the reviews the book isn't very empowering. I found Babywise particularly disempowering as a mother - told me to go against every instinct I had in me. And also told me that my instinctive parenting techniques would 'ruin' my child.
You can find all sorts of literature at Koorong - must admit, there are many texts I've read from there and I wouldn't call them Christian.
I can't reconcile Babywise logic with God's love either.

IMO there was nothing special in it. It said almost the exact same stuff as I found in my 'pregnancy bible' (not an actual bible BTW!!!) I still have it and can send it to you if you like

I have read becoming babywise - but not becoming birthwise. Having read becoming babywise I would be a little skeptical of the birthwise book, personally!
The best pregnancy & birth books I have read are Francesca Naish's 'The Natural Way to a Better Pregnancy' , and 'The Natural Way to Better Birth and Bonding' - both are very empowering reads. I also have & recommend Labour of Love - A Guide to natural childbirth without fear by Gabrielle Targett. Very informative read!!
