Induction Education and Information When used appropriately, induction can be a life saver. But sadly, we know from statistics that induction is at an unacceptable rate - far from medical or psychological need. If you would like information or to chat about induction, please post here.

Default Chances of labour starting from Stretch and Sweep??

I had a stretch and sweep today.. what has everyones experience been with the chances of that bringing on labour? I'm already 3-4cm and cervix very favourable. DR gave me impression that if it was going to happen as a result of the S&S it would be within a couple of hours..

Had S&S @ 1.30pm - now 7.15pm and nothing.

If nothing happens.. I'm booked in for an induction on Saturday anyway.. but would love to go soon.. I'm really not feeling too crash hot.

I gave birth about 12 hours after S and S and labour really really started 2 hours afterwards (the S and S, not the birth!!), but I was at 42 weeks! Geez- the S and S isn't for the faint hearted is it? (maybe just my experience but it was pretty 'invasive' for want of a better word. Wanted to say 'violent' but didn't quite sum it up!)

I had a S&S at 1cm (happened to have an ob appointment that morning) and it brought on the contractions alot stronger. DD was born the next morning.

Best of Luck with the up and coming birth. You are already a bit dialated so that's great

THere's stil hope. I was told it would work between 24 and 48 hours.

I had one at 39w5d it was 1pm on a tuesday and i was already 2cm dilated. Pre-labour started 32 hours later on wednesday night and i was in full labour at 12:30pm on the thursday (so 47.5 hours after S&S!)

I dont think you will get to saturday, fingers crossed anyway

I had one today and they said the same thing as what Mrs B26 said. 24-48hours in 50% of cases it will start labour. I have noticed significant more amount of tightenings since but not contractions and not regular but it must be doing something. She also said to me walk, walk and walk. I was only 1cm dilated but better than nothing and it has definitely irritated the cervix and uterus. I am going for a big walk tonight!!
