| | Curious about Water Births
Hi I'm currently TTC #1 and am curious about water births. I'm not sure why but it seems like a nicer way to give birth. Can anyone tell me about their experience or what they know about it?

i birthed my son into the water. it was the best thing i could have done. it some of the positions i was getting into a lot easier to hold. i also found it easyer to "go into that little cave inside my head" to get into the zone for birthing!

Oh, I can only reccommend it. I had a water birth with my first baby and it was THE BEST decision ever. Before going into the water I found labour quite hard to handle. I couldn't even speak. Although i still have to say that I neve once considered pain relief. I found it really hard to hold my own weight up. Once I got in the water, it was instant relief. I found that I didn't have to hold my weight and instead could concentrate on pushing my baby out. I loved it and planned on another water birth for my second baby. But he came out so fast, i couldn't even get into the car, let alone into the birth centre.
If you wanna read more about my waterbirth, click on the link to "How Maya floated into this world" in my signature.
I know of some people who have laboured briefly in the water, but didn't like it. BUT, some of those laboured in a normal tub, which is different to a big deep birth pool, where you can float and move around. A waterbith is probably not for everyone. But it is so worth exploring it. For me it was really effective pain relief.
All the best and good on you for exploring your options!

My mother gave birth to my sister in water at a family birthing centre (I was 17 and at the birth). It was so amazing, she never looked like she was in unmanageable pain, and she was actually FALLING ASLEEP in between contractions! Quinn came out quiet and with an intense stare - she has a look around, then fell asleep on mum's chest without a peep!
I am planning a waterbirth (home).

Talia, what a great experience that must have been. It sounds lovely. I am hoping to pass on my attitude about birth to my daughter, too. She was at her brother's birth, but not sure if she will be able to remember.

Yes it was quite defining for me. Birth was a very calm experience, and shared by my mother, my father, myself and my new sister. There was an independent midwife (whom we came to know well in the leadup, and who I am using for my birth) - but apart from that, I can't recall other people. The birth was a private and special experience, just for our family, and that was profoundly special for us.
