Default Hi!

Hey everyone.

It's lovely to meet all of you.

I'm erin, I'm in my first year of my Bachelor of midwifery, and I heard this was a great site to hear about everything to do with my future career, and meet people.

As part of my course I have to have 20 'follow through journey's' over the three years. Which just means meeting pregnant women, less than 35 weeks along, and going to at least two ante-natal appointments and two post-natal appointments with them. Anything beyond that is completely up to the women. I act as extra support for you and your partner, just someone to talk to and ask questions and have a coffee with, if that's what you'd like. Someone to be your advocate, to give you support to have a pregnancy and birth that is right for you.

So... about me. I'm a lesbian, and saw this section, and thought how great it would be if any of you would like a student midwife with you for your pregnancy. Not as just a great opportunity to experience the diversity of women I will inevitably come across in my study and career. But also, hopefully being a lesbian, would maybe provide that extra support and understanding, and just an another person to be able to identify with. Not to mention, adding to a great knowledge base for other lesbians, and myself, when I have my own beautiful babies.

If anyone is interested or knows anyone who is, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks for reading my little essay!

Erin xox

Hi there Chickpea, I'd just like to say welcome and what a fantastic idea!
We're not pregnant yet but fingers crossed it will happen soon. I'm in qld at the moment but we are moving down to melb as soon as we've got a baby on the way so I can be closer to my parents. I'm really keen to study midwifery myself and I'd be happy to have a student share the expirence with us -which will hopfully be a homebirth. I'll keep you posted
Good luck with your studys

Hey beth and sara...

Thanks for the welcome and great reaction! I was a bit hesitant asking, but I know that's the only way I'll find out, and yours is just the reaction I love to hear!!!

Fingers crossed for you two, I hope it goes as smoothly as possible.

How cool that you want to study miwifery too. It's great, I'm so excited to be a midwife in 2 1/2 years. The course is full on, and everyone says it's a rollercoaster. There are so many aspects you have to learn about that you don't even think of. But it's worth it, and can be really great some days too!

I'm still learning about all the different conception options. Have you already explained what you two are trying? I'd be interested to find out as much as you'd like to tell!

Homebirth sounds great! Thanks again.

Hey Chickpea, We are TTC with Queensland Fertility Group, Doing IUI's with an unknown american donor. If you look in the left top corner of this post you'll see a link to my blog (which I have been very slack at updating) and I go into quite a bit (too much ,lol) detail on there about the IUI procedure
We have been getting very poor responses to the 100mg of clomid so we're having a break while we decide to try a different medication with the IUI's or move straight onto IVF.

Hey beth and sarah,

I love all your blogs, they're great. So real, and genuine, it's good reading them. I get a feel for what you are going through, which is really interesting from a midwifery point of view. It's good to realise how much goes into getting pregnant for some couples. I think having that knowledge can definately help me support women better when they're pregnant. Knowing what they had to go through to get there!

And for me, a look into my possible future, when I start trying to have my own babies.

Thanks for your openess.

Chickpea

Popping in to say hello. I'm an Adelaide girl and probably always will be, but I'm currently living in the UK with my wife, and we are just getting started after realising that adoption wasn't right for us after all.

though I'm not in QLD and haven't used them myself, I've heard good reports about Queensland Fertility Group being very accepting of lesbian couples.
