Hi here is a little information on PCOS i found.

PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome) is a syndrome, not a disease. This means that it is reversible. Although PCOS is a very popular diagnosis this decade, it is not yet completely understood. One thing we do know: it responds very well to natural treatment.

First off, do not be too quick to accept a diagnosis. PCOS is a hormonal condition, not a problem with the ovaries. Ultrasound is NOT enough to diagnose PCOS. 25% of perfectly normal women display polycystic ovaries at one time or other (1). A subsequent ultrasound will show it to be normal again. True PCOS involves hormone irregularities that must be picked up with blood test.

Question about Syneral

Hi girls

I am a long time lurker but have just started down the IVF road. I had an appointment with my FS yesterday and he prescribed me Syneral which I am meant to start taking today, but i can find a pharmacy that stocks it! Every pharmacy i have tried has said they need to order it in. So my question is, if i get the Syneral tomorrow, is that too late to start taking it? I called my FS but he is operating all day and his receptionist was not sure of the answer. I am already on the pill. I am a bit stuck! Hoping you knowledgeable girls will be able to help me out!

Thanks heaps :D

Hi all :)

Was wondering if anyone could recommend a FS in melbourne who specialises in women who are over 40? Or at the very least doesn't turn them away... A friend recently sought the help of a FS only to be told "due to your age it's a less than 2% chance of conception so we won't try IVF" and won't treat her :(

TIA

tubal problems, IUI or IVF?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I am totally new to all of this.. Is IUI an option if tubal problems are causing the infertility? Or would it be better to go straight to IVF? For some personal reasons, we want to conceive asap.
I am in my early 20s (24) and my partner 30, if our only problem is tubal blocking/scarring, what sort of success rate could we expect with IVF?
Thanks for any advice

To PGD or not PGD ... that is the question?

I'm desperate for a quick answer to help hubby & I make a decision. We find ourselves in the realm of IVF/PGD as we are proving to be a particularly "stubborn" case of "unexplained infertility". It seems that the next step for us is to try PGD to see whether that will give us any answers about why our 6 transfers have failed.

We have 4 fertilised embryos from our most recent cycle and are trying to decide whether that is enough to justify spending the $2,500 for PGD. We got 9 day 5 blasts first time round so 4 fertilised is a bit of a disappointment for us. We don't suspect any genetic disorders, we're simply searching for answers for the lack of success. It is not critical that we do the PGD but we feel it is the next step.

We have the option of freezing this batch and doing another collection to get enough for it to be "worth" testing. I guess we have the luxury that we can still transfer an unscreened embryo? What should we do? What is the minimum/normal number of embryos that people in our situation have had tested?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hi girls. I have a quick question. I had 2 embryos transferred a week and a half ago and I have a question. Hypothetically speaking if one fails and one takes do you still bleed? What happens to the embyro that doesn't take? Do you still get normal period symptoms? I was just thinking about this before and was curious. Thanks girls

How successful are Frostie bubs???

My sister is trying for her one and only frostie bub next month!!!!!:dance:

I dont think she actually does IVF, but ICSI?? She had her eggs taken out, hubbys deposit, mixed them, and she only got 3 out of 11.

One was implanted, and is now my 2 yr old niece, one didn't make it, and one was "ok". This is the frozen one!!

Sydney IVF have told her 1 in 10 don't make it past being thawed out....

I do know thats stats dont mean much, and she has the chance to go either way, but do frostie bubs have the same success rate as fresh??

She got her daughter on her second attempt.
She went through it all the first time, and only got one "ok" one, that didn't take.
This one is from the second attempt. I dont think she will do it all again, the needles, collecting, cost etc, so praying SO hard little frostie makes it next month.....

I want to prepare myself if we can't conceive naturally - we've only seriously been trying for about three months so it's early stages but at my age I'm probably only going to keep trying for another few months before I get checked out etc.

So ... if we need to go down the IVF route, how much does it cost? We have private health insurance, not sure if that makes a difference.
