Hi everyone,

Not sure if I have asked this but I was wondering if anyone knew of formula that helps Colic babies, or lessens their wind donw below. Our little man is 6 weeks and on Karicare Gold, MCHN recommened LF as his colic has been worse in the last week and we only started on Karicare 2 weeks ago, or it may just be a coincidence. I'm happy to give Soy or LF but he is a big drinker so it doesn't satisfy him. Can you put thickener in it? We have some drops as you may have read about in other posts, and they are helping alot. Just wanted to eliminate anything ealse. My hubby has a slight allergy to full cream milk, and even though I don't, I drink LF myself and Soy. Thanks for any advice :)

Hi, went to my GP yesterday, my 5 and 1/2 week old has colic, have been doing all things suggested and more!!! Infacol didn't work, have him sleeping on my chest at night so we can all get some rest. We are on Karicare Gold, can that have anything to do with wind? Also has anyone heard of the Horsham Colic Drops? All natural, a pharmacist in Horsham make them, people swear by them. We are currently using Gripe water, have only been on it for the last day, how long does it take to work? This is our first son, so we have been seeking advice all over. It's heartbreaking when he is in pain. Thanks to anyone who has any advice :D

Excuse my ignorance but what is the difference between reflux and silent reflux? And how to the symptoms differ?

Don't have any issues but would like to know how to recongise and deal with either if there were to occur.

Hi Everyone,

My wee man is just nearly 18 months. He had silent reflux from an early age and was put onto Losec. He is still on Losec used to be on 20mg now on 10mg.We tried weaning him down to 5 mg a few months ago but we noticed a few reflux symptoms return so will try again in another month or so.He was the worst sleeper ever awake at least 5 to 7 times a night and impossible to settle. It was a nightmare.A few months ago he started to slowly sleep better and better until now he pretty much sleeps through the night which is a miracle. The things I think did it was stopping breastfeeding ( he had weaned himself anyway) learning to fall asleep on his own and growing out of reflux.

However just in the past few weeks the odd night he is waking very suddenly crying and screaming.I thought it might be night terrors but now I am not so sure.Last night was the worst in months. He woke at 12.30 and never really resettled all night.Seemed very uncomfortable and restless.I think as well hes a wee bit more cranky during the day.I am terrified the reflux is coming back.He eats pretty much everything now eggs, fish, wheat and has done for ages.He has a wee bit of dairy on his spread and has never caused problems. Our doctor told us he can't eat dairy while taking Losec has anyone else heard this.Does anyone else have experience of reflux returning after such a long time.I also wondered if maybe hes been on Losec too long and thats causing stomach problems.

Thanks so much

Our 3 month old Monster had just commenced Losec for suspected silent reflux. I just gave him 2ml of the compounded liquid and he HATED it! Notwithstanding tears and some interesting facial expressions, I managed to get most of it down. He may only be 3 months but he is a smart one and I fancy that he will soon cotton on to the process and refuse to take it. Any suggestions as to how I can get it down?

Thanks a lot :)

Vomiting Curdled Formula

Hi Everyone

I hope that you can help. My DD is 4 1/2 weeks old and has been getting bouts of vomiting of curdled formula. This doesn't happen after every feed, but when it does it is so much and even comes out her nose.

She is 100% formula feed for the past 2 weeks and is on a lactose free formula which was prescibed by the peadiatrician for her due to both DH & I being lactose intolerant.

She has been putting on weight, 600 grams in the last 2 1/2 weeks and is alert and active but I'm concerned that there is something I'm missing. She is not on a regular feeding schedule as yet, feeding sometimes 3 hourly, sometimes 4 hourly and depending on how long she has gone between feeds depends on how much I feed her. Although after she has had a huge vomit, she feeds irregularly and only small amounts over a very limited timeframe, ie: every hour and generally doesn't sleep after the vomit also.

Any ideas, recommendations or similar problems that can give me an idea as to how best to manage this. I have decided to change the teats on her bottles to a slower flow, to try and stop her gulping her feeds, although when she was on the slower teats it would take about 1 1/2 hours to feed her. Hopefully we don't go back to such long feeds as it is so hard during night feeds to have a feed take that long, especially when she wants a 3 hourly feed.

We suspected our DD had silent reflux and our gp agreed yesterday to give her some meds to see if it helps. So we gave DD her first dose of Zoton last night and she slept for almost 9.5 hours straight!!! She normally goes down at 7 then feeds around 1am then again at 5ish so her routine is pretty good anyway but I'm wondering if the zoton helped last night.

Is it just a coincidence? Any feedback on Zoton would be apreciated.

TIA!

I noticed tonight while I was giving DD her bath that she has two hard lumps on each side of her bottom gum, but not in the centre of her mouth, more towards the side. Are these teeth coming up? I thought that the first teeth to come through were in the centre?
She has been grumpy today and screaming when I put her down for a sleep (I have hated sleep time today! ) and up until a day or so ago she was having quite runny poos about 3 or 4 times a day (normally she has one a day and they aren't quite so runny).

Could she be teething already? I dont know what else the lumps would be, just thought they were in a funny spot and they are quite large, I thought they would come straight up through the gum, not poke out from her gum if that makes sense. Going to visit the childhood nurse tomorrow afternoon just to get her weighed and measured for interests sake so I'll ask her then, but thought I would ask all you lovely BB ladies first as I don't have much faith in the nurse after the treatment I got at her 6-8 week checkup

Silent Reflux advice needed desperately!!

I am the first time mother of a beautiful baby boy who is 2 months old. Since about 5 weeks he has cried for several hours after every feed. At first we were told he had colic so we tried everything to relieve wind, then we were told we had silent reflux and put on Zantac and finally after Zantac hasnt completely solved the problem we have been put on Losec and using special reflux formula from pharmacy. Zantac decreased the screaming by lots!!

I still dont think things are right, he doesnt scream after every feed now, but suddenly will wake himself for sleep and begin to scream on and off for hours. He is red faced, and often sweats his entire back as he gets so worked up. His legs push up and down or he does stragith as a bored. His mouth smells like acid. And sometimes i feel like he isnt breathing! It seems we calm him finally and he almost falls asleep then swallows and it all begins again.

I feel like everyhing is in a cycle now and dont know what is making things better and what is not helping.

His poos have now changed colour to yellow mustard and are pellet like now on the new formula but he goes 2 times a day - but it is a small pellet each time! They seems quite solid would this mean he is constipated now too?? He is always red faced and strains alot to poo1

We seem to give him a dose of panadol daily to help him settle and not sure how safe this is???

is there anyone who has advice on what i should do next to help him, or is it normal for babies to cry in pain several times a day even with these interventions??

Also can someone tell me what is safe to use with panadol and reflux?? The panadol defaintely works without fail to stop the crying and let him sleep - but i am worried i use it once every day/ couple of days???

Please help me - i dont know what to tell the paed anymore but i just cant stand him being in so much pain every day!

Has anyone used this stuff with any success? The gp recommended it but I'm starting to think I prefer the Brauers stuff instead. It doesn't seem to be working. It's just difficult to get a whole 4 mls into dd at a time- most of it ends up all down the front of her.

So has anyone used it? Should I perservere?

TIA :)

Teething (molars) and vomiting

Just wanted to see if others have had a baby vomit when getting the molars.

Our DD has had her finger permanently in her mouth, asking for a dummy (which she only has when teething, by her choice), and a bit grizzly. Last night and tonight just as she goes to bed, she throws up.

She has no temp, slightly off food, very disgusting poos, stinky and slightly runny (sorry for TMI), and a little clingy. She is still running around, dancing, and squealing. So she doesn't seem sick, except for the vomiting, just as soon as she goes to bed and has had milk. We also went through this about 6 weeks ago.

After some fighting I managed to get my finger in her mouth and think I felt a tooth coming through. I don't normally push the issue as she gets so worked up, and just go by the external symptoms..

Does it sound like something that you went through with the molars?

Need desperate help with gas!

Hi,
I am at my wits end with my son's gas, I have tried everything and I just don't know what else to do. My son is 7 weeks old has the worst wind, he farts ALL day and a huge chunk of the night. Most of it causes him pain or discomfort. He cannot be left without being rocked or swayed for more then 5 or so minutes during the day. Every single sleep he has, whether during the day or at night, it always always is interrupted with tummy pains or a fart. As a result he had so much trouble sleeping during the day and only sleeps for about 3-4 hours at night at a time. I hold him during the sleeps during the day, and every time I try to put him down, no matter how long he's been sleeping he always starts farting and it wakes him up straight away. Even if I manage to get him asleep in the cot during the day, he always wakes up with a fart no more then 30 minutes later (and 30 minutes is good, usually its 5 minutes) and of course with the fart comes pain and another 30 minutes of trying to get him asleep again. He lives with his legs either pumping up and down or his legs curled up around his tummy. And the amount of air that comes out of his bum is insane!! I just cannot believe so much air gets into his body, let alone comes out - seriously, you just wouldn't believe the amount of farts he does.
The other thing is the feeding, the gas affects it so much, if he is gassy when he feeds (which is more times than not) he is a nightmare to feed. He will start off fine, and then just start squealing and crying as if the milk is hurting him. And then start farting heaps, as if the milk is making the farts get 10 times worse. He's desperate to suck (having the gas) so I put him back on the boob and he starts squealing again, but I give him the dummy he settles and is fine, which is fine.. but what about the milk? So after about 2-3 minutes (and usually a few farts) I'll put him on the boob again until he starts squealing again then I'll put in the dummy and we'll repeat this over and over until he finally gets a decent feed. This is every feed, doesn't matter how long I leave him, if I try later - its every feed, no matter how hungry he is.
I have tried 2 brands of gripe water, infants friend, Brauer's colic mixture, infacol, taking caffeine, excess sugar, diary, garlic, onions and other gas causing food out of my diet, I have tried sitting him up after meals - I dont know what is left. Some of these help out, makes the cries not as intense, but a far cry from fixing the problem or relieving him for the pain and discomfort. I have book an appointment with the osteopath on Monday, but honestly don't have high hopes. We have been to the Dr but they just take the "he'll grow out of it approach".
I can calm him when he is upset, but I just physically can't calm him 24/7. He has his good days but they are rare - really rare. It doesn't come one time of the day, it is every day, all day.
I need some advice, I am just at my wits end. I just my baby to be happy!!

Hi girls,
I've seen the paediatrician who has told me to start Ella on 0.8mgs of Zantac to see if this helps with reflux, if any of you have used this for your babies, how quick did you see an improvement? I am just so desperate at the moment that I will try anything!

Hi all,
My 3mo bubby boy has acid reflux and has been prescribed Losec for the pain. I am curious if anyone knows how long it takes to start to make him feel better. The Paed decided to narrow it down by ruling out Reflux then Milk Intolerance. If it is reflux how long would it take for the medication to take effect???

Sorry in advance for the length of this, but I have a few issues which may or may not be related! I'm not sure if it's in the right place, but if not please move it for me!
Our almost 7 month old DD has always been a pretty good baby, but the last month she's been...well..a little monster! :o She got her first 2 teeth through at 16 and 17 weeks without any trouble-they just popped up all of a sudden. But for the last month or so she has been very unsettled and just not herself. She was sleeping through the night and having 2 or 3 1-1.5hr sleeps each day. But now I am lucky if she sleeps for an hour or 2 in total during the day-she keeps waking up after the first sleep cycle and won't resettle. She's also started waking 4 or 5 times during the night-though goes straight back to sleep when given her dummy. She's also not eating a great lot-she was having 4 FF of 200mls each plus 3 solid feeds. She's dropped back her FF to the point where I am lucky to get 500mls into her a day, but she will happily eat her solids. I tried cutting out her solids thinking that may be the problem but it didn't make a difference. I actually took her to my GP about that, but she said as long as she still has 5 or 6 wet nappies a day and doesn't show signs of constipation then I should just continue with whatever she will take as she is still gaining weight. I've put it down to teething, as she's getting her top teeth-not the front 2, but the ones next to them! But the main issue is her CONSTANT crying! Sometimes it goes on for hours on end. I've tried Panadol and bonjella in case it's her teeth causing pain, but it doesn't make a difference. It just feels as though all she does is cry and it's really getting to me! It gets worse when DH or I leave the room and if we both leave the room she gets hysterical! So what I'm wondering (after all that!!) is whether or not this is normal?! I was told that separation anxiety usually starts at around 8 months, but maybe it's that? If there was just one issue I wouldn't be so worried, but the fact that she is having problems with sleepin, eating and the crying is so troubling to me! I feel as though I am at my wit's end and just don't know what to do with her. :crying: Any advice would be much appreciated!
