Baby Bonus Help

DH and I are trying to work out our budget for my Mat leave, and so I went looking at the centrelink website last night, and I think I might qualify to get the baby bonus. Would be close to the threshold...

Obviously I would like to apply for it asap, and get the money coming in asap, but what if i apply straight away and say I am eligible, and then we get some additional income, what would happen then? Does it just stop? or would I have to pay back what I got??? Would I be better off just managing with what we have and getting it after 6 months when I can know for sure what our circumstances are?

TIA

Parenting Payment v's Carer Payment

Ok, I'm all confused, which is easily done these days.....

At the moment I get FTB A & B.... and Parenting Payment while Ad isn't working. Ad gets newstart.

Ad is at Centrelink today letting them know he has part time work. So not sure yet if he'll be earning enough to keep Newstart and my Parenting Payment up, or get some, or lose it altogether.

I just rang and got them to send me the Carer Payment and Allowance forms. If I do get theses payments I lose the Parenting payment.

Does the Carer payments affect FTB??

The site says if we are a couple, we both get the payment. How does that work, and can Ad get that while working, or will I get the single rate?

Do we both apply, or will they work that out automatically when I apply?

Kane is demanding more and more time as he gets older, with his hearing loss and intense speech therapy, and the guy I spoke to said provided the doc writes down all the extra care it takes us, and the travelling that makes working even harder, we should be fine.

I really cant go sit at centrelink with questions, I'm just not up to it. I need to go in when I kinda know what i'm doing if that makes sense....

Sorry if there is already a thread for this, my PG brain is so not working.

so DP and i have FINALLY lodged our tax returns, i received my cheque back from the tax office so what happens now?

We OVER ESTIMATED by quite a bit (prob over $20,000) how long would it normally take to get a refund from Centrelink and how do they work it out?

I Underestimated my portion as we ended up paying me under DP's business to help with his tax etc but that will only make a difference to MY payment right, we still over estimated for the yr so will get something back.

God i hate all this stuff, it's so complicated and is prob going to be worse when #2 is here... Hmmm i'd prefer to over estimate and say what we CAN physically earn in a yr than under estimate and have to pay.
I paid my taxes for years, bout time i got something back... :p

Parenting payment suspended

I need advice on how to actually get some action out of Centrelink. I am getting absolutely nowhere with them.

My parenting payment was suspended as a friend did not return the reference letter to them. She wrongly assumed that because I was already getting the payment she didn't need to send it in & threw it out.

The Centrelink call centre have on two occasions told me they have re-sent the letter to my friend. She has not received it. A call centre operator advised me to go in to my local branch & ask for the letter to be printed on the spot. I waited for 1/2 an hour in the queue only to find that they could not print it out there. The woman pressed a button on her computer which supposedly sent the letter out & a week later it has still not arrived.

Today I called & was told that I should get my friend to write a letter confirming our separation & to sign it & take it in to the local office. I seriously doubt that this is going to work & I will wait in the queue only to be told that it means nothing. She also said she was re-printing the damn letter.

This has now been going on for a couple of months. I'm not desperate for the payment as I'm working part time, but with interest rates going up I will soon need it.

How on earth do I get some action out of them? Is there a department that deals with unresolved problems? Perhaps I should be having an appointment at my local office. I'm getting really sick of the whole situation.

Can anyone answer this question/s

I am due in May 2010.

How is FTB calculated?

I work full time, will get Maternity Leave for 3 months then the remaining 9 months no pay.
Am I deemed still employed therefore wont get FTB?

Will my income and hubbys income from the 09 tax year be taken into account or just hubbys?

this whole financial thing and going down to one income stresses me out!!!!!!

I have no clue about this & was just curious.
DD2 has speech difficulties. She has lots of trouble getting people to understand, & has been seeing a speech therapist for a few months now. I think 4 or 5 months?
Anyway, mum mentioned someone she works with also has 2 children with speech problems, who see a speech therapist & she's entitled to carer's allowance.
Her oldest is now 15 & still recieving therapy, & form the impression I got, she is still on the carer allowance.
As far as I know, mum talked to her quite a bit about it to find out more for me. They have no other disabilities at all. Just the speech issues. I don't know if they are still hard to understand now, though, at 13 & 15 I think.
Do you think this would be worth me looking further into? Or is it not something I would be able to do anyway.
Just thought I would ask in case someone has any idea.
TIA

Disability Pension

Not asking for myself LOL.

My mum is nearly 60 and is about to have major knee surgery in the next couple of weeks. Not that it will impair her work any as she works with her hands from home.

But come March she will be having carpal tunnel surgery and something else done on her wrist. She has already been told by the surgeon that will do her wrist that there is a good chance she may never be able to work again. She is a small business owner who works from home, as has done so for the last 24 years.

I mentioned that maybe she could look into a disability pension, but all I could find on the centrelink site was a disability support pension and from the sounds of it, it was only temporary and she would have to look for work again. Not really something she wants to do at the age of 60.

Her husband (my step-father) works full time, but earns under $50,000 a year.

Does anyone know what she could be entitled to if she does end up never being able to work again.

She is going to and speak to them herself when it gets closer to the time, but wants to know what she is talking about, as she has never dealt with centrelink.

i wasnt sure where to put this ..maby should have put it in the work section:doh:

I might be going back to work...(ARGHHH SCARY LOL)
Mum says the aged care facility which she co-manages need some help in the kitchen, where ill most likely be working alongside the cook.( that is if i do start working there)

The hours would be 7.30am-1.30pm (casual)
so they wouldnt be long shifts and i could do 1 shift or 5 shifts a week if i wanted, and id only be working for a few months if that as their having someone take over the kitchen next year.

_my questions_
-Would i lose much of my centrelink payments?
-is it worth even going back?( i think my main reason for accepting to work isnt just because of the money but i wouldnt want to be losing too much money either IYKWIM)

so they wouldnt be long shifts and i could do 1 shift or 5 shifts a week if i wanted, and id only be working for a few months if that as their having someone take over the kitchen next year.

my questions
-Would i lose much of my centrelink payments?
-is it worth even going back?( i think my main reason for accepting to work isnt just because of the money but i wouldnt want to be losing too much money either IYKWIM)

I tried to advise of my return to work today online, but I have to declare that I've worked an average of 10 hours a week for 4 weeks.
Well, I will have in 4 weeks time but I only went back 2 days ago.

I thought I was supposed to update my details as soon as possible, but this seems like I have to wait a month??

Does anyone know the average time for these claims to be processed? I am overseas atm and applied for both about 2 weeks and provided all of the requested documentation. I have got someone checking my mail and haven't received anything yet and nothing is showing up in online services. I have got the international phone number for Centrelink from their website but it's a bit difficult for me to call them atm. Thanks

I've just been told that PPS is taxable - does that mean I was supposed to take tax out on the PPS payments I received last year?

Will I have a debt now? It said I recived about $11k and total tax withheld $0. I know you can earn $6K tax free so does that mean I now have to pay tax on $5K??

Should I be taking a certain % out every fortnight from now on??

Help and TIA!!

When I go to work and Shel is SAHM (and obviously if we are still under the income threshold) is Shel able to claim parenting payment? Qld doesn't yet recognise us both as mums legally, but since we are seen as a couple now I'd assume they'd at least see Shel as a guardian, which would make her eligible to claim parenting payment?

Someone told us we'd have to have her down as a 'carer'???? And not a parent/guardian?

Also, does it matter who claims FTB? If it does matter then would Shel be able to claim that, or does it have to keep coming in my name?
