Gifted Kids Support Group

There are new lovely ladies joining this wonderful forum here all the time.

I would really love to develop a Gifted Kids Support Group here, if there are families with gifted kids here on BB.

I would love to be able to share stories and strategies about raising these wonderful but sometimes tiring kids.

A research was done, which looked at if there was more stress in a family where money was tight, jobless parents, alcoholism etc... or a family with a gifted child and there was more stress in a family with gifted children.

And, i know why!

If you would like to share your stories, please do so. I would so love to learn how other parents deal with this.

I smelt it & it doesn't smell like poo iykwim (I know, gross, but I need to know)
I think I'm gonna cry. Please tell me this is not possible.
I tried ringing a friend to come look & reassure me, but she's not home.

....stupid & shut up??

IMO these 2 words, even though they aren't really swearing, are just the start of a huge list of words (more obvious words) that they are not allowed to say.
They aren't allowed to call each other idiot either.

Are there any words most people think are innocent that you don't allow your kids to say? I remember mum & dad banning us from dork...never thought that was fair! My kids have never heard the word though I don't think, lol.

What started your tween/teens tantrum today?

After reading the "What started your toddlers tantrum today?" thread and realising my toddler has been wonderfully behaved today unlike my 12yr old DD, I thought I would start this thread.

My DD has a school disco coming up. And so the drama starts.
Of course she has NOTHING to wear... so we go shopping. Nothing is good enough. I find this cute top and match it with some jeans. She can't wear that top because xxx wore it to the last disco they had and jeans are a little under dressed I am told. I bite my tongue & roll my eyes. We decide to go to another shop when DD sees this dress she loves from a little boutique store and it was on sale for $20. I can't complain as it is cheap, cute and it suits her. There was a magenta colour, red, blue & black. Now, she originally liked it in the magenta and I agreed to that... but she decides she likes the black one. Yeah it was cute in black but way too grown up looking. I told her to get the magenta. She huffed and bought it.
We get home and she storms off to her room to try the dress on. She comes down and says the straps are too big... they're adjustable so I fix that. She looks lovely in it. Now she is telling me she will be over dressed and just wants to wear jeans! Seriously... someone slap me next time I think to take her shopping for clothes!

Anyone else have a tanty throwing tween/teen?

DD1 is 7. Will be 8 in April. She's driving me insane!!
Basically she's a **** stirrer. Stirs the crap outta her brother & sister non stop!

I've said to her sooo many times, STOP! Re DS - When he's crying he doesn't want you to do it! So stop!! Her response...But I like it when he cries! WTF?? What person says this? Why would anyone like to hear someone cry??

She does it to me. She knows she drives me nuts & I really think she enjoys it!
We have a lounge in the family room, all foam, modular in 4 pieces. She is always swinging off the end one & moving it around when I tell her over & over again to please stop.

Jumping on our new lounge that we've had about 2 weeks. We don't have much new. We are lucky to have that. I've been waiting a few years now for a lounge, coz every time we got enough money, there was always something else...

So anyway, every time i leave the room I almost always walk back in to see her either doing what she's been told not too, or she'll stop & look at me sheepishly like she knows its wrong & that she just got busted, but has a grin on her face that I really think says 'screw you mum'.

I dread every single weekend. We are only just coming to the end of Saturday & I'm over it. The weekend is only 2 days & I can't stand having her home for 2 whole days!!

I just gave them dinner & after her again jumping on the lounge, then stirring DD2 til she's in tears again I sent her to bed. She reckons she's starving, I tell her too bad. Til she learns to listen to me, I won't listen to her.

So she starts trying to get my attention. Calling out to DD2 to go in there to get her to make her a sandwich. I tell DD2 to ignore her.

Then she opens her window, up on her bed (high off the ground outside) & leans on the gause so DD2 & DS can see her through the loungeroom window. After yesterday explaining what will happen if she does that & falls!! If I could move her bed I would, but trust me, its impossible coz of the way her room is. If I did there's plenty more furniture for her to climb on.

So DS goes in there, & twice I hear him crying, before the 3rd time he comes running out to me.

What do I do?? I just shut her door, but I heard her open the window again. So tempted to just leave her a mattress on the floor & nothing else in her room!!

Would you leave her to carry on about being starving hungry & hope she falls asleep?

I've said I don't want to hear it & I don't care a couple of times, of course this gets dramatised into 'so you don't care about me then! You just hate me!'
Of course trying to get her to understand that, no, this is what happens when you are in trouble. I've asked you to do this & that today & you refused over & over to do it. I asked you to stop this or that over & over & you kept doing it.

I'm so over it!

My DS7 came home from school yesterday and told me that his teacher had told them all to ask Mum or Dad to check their hair for nits.

So I had a good nosey around and he was all clear. He then said "I have checked the front but can you have a look at the backs of my legs?" "What for?" I asked "for the nits that might have jumped onto my leg hairs!"

Bless his little cotton socks, I had a great laugh. So thank you Ardyn you really made my day!:lol::lol:

its when they start school, and get older that it gets harder.....yes ???
I had a lightbulb moment last night..as they get older, parenting gets tougher, harder, more draining ...yes ???

..my DD#1 whom is in kindergarten this year - so first year of school. Has fitted in perfectly, her reading and writing is going really well, shes made good lil friends - all happy here. Have detected a little bit of attitude since starting school, but meh, i was told about this and think we're handing lit pretty well. Although last week, we found out (i sussed it outta her) she stole another kids lil toy from school...DH and i had a big talk with her, she promised not to do it again...
Yesterday i find something in her school bag that is not hers - i ask her about it, she says someone musta put it in her bag by mistake ...:shakehead:. I knew she was lying. GOt it out of her (and DH ) that she took it. It broke my heart. I honestly, honestly felt like i had failed as a parent. I was so ashamed...of myself, of her. I felt sad, frustrated, disappointed ...
Its this discipline stuff that is really tough....when they disobey, when they have a life outside your home and they are not following the rules...thats the tough part....its just heart breaking....its certainly shaken me a little....cos this newborn/baby stuff i often feel im not dealing with well (H is still up 3-4 times a night). bUt gosh...i can do that no probs, compared to what i was dealing with last night...this is the tough part of a parenting isnt it?????

They're turning into monsters!

Well it feels like it anyway! PUBERTY is running rampant in my house!

DS is 12 and DD will be 11 in a couple of months. Both are having mood swings at the drop of a hat and just can't be nice to eachother.

I feel so useless atm. It's like living with strangers, all of the sudden they aren't the little babies I held in my arms anymore. I understand what they're going through and remember puberty very well but have absolutely NO IDEA how to guide them through it. Parenting them has become a chore for me, I'm not enjoying it anymore and I'm sure this is just the beginning.

Is there anyone here with any advice on how to get through the next few years without scarring my children for life or myself? lol.
