Cot in bedroom?

Hey guys,
My lil guy is getting too big for his bassinette already, and is also starting to roll. He has had a few sleeps during the day in his cot and doesn't have any problem with it. He is a great sleeper and very easy to settle. My thing is I don't feel ready for him to be in his own room just yet. He is just over 3 months and I really like having him close by during the night. DH and I were thinking of moving the cot into our room till we feel a bit more ready. As for DS, he probably wouldn't mind either way - I think it's more me IYKWIM....
So, have many people done this? Is it harder to then get them into thier own room? Even though he is growing so quickly, he is still my precious little boy - I don't think I'm ready for the big boy room but really would love to hear of your experiences to help make an informed choice.
Thanks Rach xx

Ditching The Dummy

Hello

I am looking for hints and tips for getting rid of dummies. My twins are 22 months old and both use a dummy as a sleep aid. This I have no problem with, except they lose it in the night and wake, crying, for me to give it back to them.

Last night I was up 6 or 7 times in the night to one or the other of them. The tiredness is getting me down a bit:asleep:

So does anyone have tips on how I can get rid of them? And should I do one at a time, or both together?

thanks in advance

Hi everyone! My 7 month old son has become overly clingy towards me. It is getting to the point where I can't even sit next to him without him wanting to be held and if I even try to walk away (just a couple of steps) he screams. I don't want him to grow up being unable to be without me. I have tried to just let him cry but he does not stop until I come back to him. The longest I've left it is 40 minutes and I just couldn't leave him any longer. Does anyone have any tips on how I can encourage independance or is this just a stage that babies go through?

Hi,
My 3 month old daughter has got clicky joints in her wrists elbows and shoulders. This only seems to have started in the last few days. Is this normal and is it something I should be concerned about? I have heard of clicky hips but not the arms. Her hips and legs seem fine.

Sorry if this is the wrong area to put this in but hoping someone can help!

I'm in the northern suburbs of Melbourne and have just got a new car and need to get the carseat installed. Had it installed today and the seat is wobbling around all over the place and I'm just not going to put DD in the car!!

Does anyone know someone RELIABLE that will put the seat in the car. We originally got it installed at Baby Bunting in Thomastown, but the guy there only does it on Mondays and the waiting list was a mile long. I'm going to try and call them tomorrow anyway, see how my luck goes.

If anyone can suggest any company that installs the seats, please let me know!

Cheers,

DD is 6 and a half months old. We're travelling overseas and I'm a little worried about her breathing.

She seems to be wheezing when she gets excited or breathes heavily. Only for about the last 2 days. My first thought is that maybe she has a cold, but her temperature is totally normal, and there are no other symptoms except her poos have been running, which I assumed was from starting solids.

The wheezing sounds very much like someone with asthma - like she is struggling to get her breath. It only lasts a few seconds at most and doesn't seem to bother her.

She is otherwise pretty cheerful, though not sleeping very well and sometimes getting upset at random things, which I have put down to a developmental stage, or the effects of starting solids. Now I'm wondering if she's sick.

Any suggestions what might cause this? Would you go to a doctor?

Help dd hates men!!

Hi All -
Hoping I can get some advice from anyone that may have some experience in this type of thing. My DD is 13 months old and is scared of any man that she doesn't know exceptionally well. She isn't around too many men as neither myself or my husband have our dads around anymore and we don't see our (mine and my husbands) brothers very much.
She cries whenever a male comes around but strangely enough can't stop staring at them, then will look away and cry but then look back at them!!
I have tried doing the introductions very slowly and giving her a chance to suss them out before interacting with her but this hasn't really helped too much.
Does anyone have any advice on what I can do or is it just a faze that she will hopefully grow out of soon
I would greatly appreciate any advice at all - thanks in advance

hi all. was hoping i could get some help
My bubbie has these very unusual reddish orange blisters coming up on his body. The first one appeared on his middle finger, started as a small break in the sking, then bubbled into a blister, and peeled back half the skin on his finger, it went a very orangie red colour and started weeping.

Another appeared on his leg, quiet large (about the size of a ten cent piece)

and another has appeared on his other middle finger, his groin and now 4 small ones have appeared on his chin and one on his nose.

They look like a blister, but they seem to peel back the skin around them and they are always a very orangie colour and weeping

any ideas? i was going to go to the docs, but thought id ask for your opinions first.
thanks

DD is being quite fussy this week. She doesn't want me to leave her sight, is sleeping badly, is getting upset at things I don't understand at all (ie I don't know what it is that triggers the tears).

Seeing as we're having a for-once peaceful week in our travels overseas, this is surprising. Until I looked up on the The Wonder Weeks website to see that she's exactly the age where they predict a fussy stage associated with the baby learning that mum can be a distance further away from them than is comfortable, and there is nothing the baby can do to control that.

This is not at all the first time that this book has predicted exactly what DD was going to do, in terms of when she's fussy and when she's relatively settled. I'm amazed that it's that accurate. Either she's kinda the poster-child for the book, or it's really very predictable stuff. I'm absolutely impressed by this book, and recommend it to everyone I know.

Does anyone else have great success using this book to anticipate correctly when your baby will be having a fussy or a difficult stage?

I have been checking them out on ebay. I don't want to spend alot of money incase the novelty wears off too soon.

Has anyone bought one off ebay before? Was it any good?

There are a few being resold on ebay in 'as new' condition - is this a bad sign.....

My 8 month old daughter hasn't had a movement in three days! Usually she's a once-a-day baby (at least), and I'm a bit worried. I know newborns can often be irregular, but she isn't a newborn any longer. We've done gentle abdominal massage, prunes and pears, water, a poo dance (my husband's idea, in the manner of dancing for rain - it works!)... but nothing. Does the old brown sugar and water trick work on older babies? Any advice?

Childrens panadol?

Hi

Hope someone can shed some light on this question please. My little one has his 6 week jabs today :cry: (they are being done early becuase of the amount of whooping cough about) Dr suggested that if there was a reaction (which there wasnt TG) to use some Childrens Panadol?

I went and got some and when i got home checked packet to see what does I should give him if needed. The measurements were for X ml for children between 4-6 kg Y ml for children between 6 - ? Kg and that it was not to be given to children under the age of 1 month. My little fella is six weeks (today :D) but only weighs 3.54kg - does this mean i can't give him Childrens panadol?

Any advice would be great. Don't need to give him any but need to know in case I do moving forward.

Cheers

Hi,

I have a 16 month old who, at night time sleeps in a grobag sleeping bag and has been doing so since he was about 6-7 months old. He's now in the summer one (TOC 0.5) although it still cools down during the night. What I'd like some advice on is, the sleeping bag is sleeveless and I worry that he'll be cold if he's in a short sleeve top underneath yet I CANNOT find any thin long sleeve tops, pjs or anything just to keep his arms covered at night. I've tried putting a blanket over him during the night as well but that lasts 5 mins until he rolls over. Does anyone have a solution, or know where I can get some thin long sleeve tops from?

Cheers, Bec

Tummy Time

Hi,

My daughter is nearly 3 months old and like lots of babies, she seems to hate tummy time. So needless to say, she only has a couple of minutes on her tummy each day.

Anyway, i have read that one of the three month milestones says that babies should be using their arms to do mini push-ups when on their tummy. Well Holly just lays there, occasionally moves her head from one side to the other but she doesn't even attempt to use her arms to push herself up. I have tried putting a rolled up towel under her, putting her on my chest etc, but she never uses strength in her arms.

Have any other babies of this age gone through this? Should I be concerned?

Thanks in advance!

14 month old waking in the middle of night hysterical

Im wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue whereby:
We had a perfectly sleeping baby who generally slept all through the night. On occasion I would hear him in the night cry out, but usually he put himself back to sleep immediately, which made me think that he was just turning over or something. At worst, he would have a grizzle for 5 minutes and then go back to sleep.
However in the last 3 weeks on some nights at approximately 11:30 or 2am he is waking up and is crying uncontrollably.
There are some things that have changed, but I cant put my finger on one thing to single it out.
I was the person who put my son to sleep every night, but my husband has offered to do it (Im 8 months pregnant and a bit uncomfortable) which has been great for me, but as its not a consistent thing (sometimes I feel fine to do it, sometimes I let him) and Im wondering if this is an emotional trigger for him.
Also we seem to be slipping his afternoon nap on occasion as sometimes he looks like he can last the distance. That is, DS is having a 1 &1/2 hour nap in the morning (from 9:30 - approx 11am), he was having a 1/2 hour nap in the arvo at about 2:30pm, but lately sometimes he didn't want it or I would directly push him to his 6pm bed-time of which he would drink his bottle of milk and virtually fall asleep in our arms and put him to bed without any settling on our end, which was great at the front end, but sometimes we end up with this screaming episode at 2am, which could be the other possibility, that is, he wakes up at 2am and wonders "what happened??! I was playing last thing I remember...."
At some stage in my wisdom, I fiddled with his teat and pin-*****ed a few extra holes to help get the flow going a bit faster for him as I thought he might have been struggling. When the screaming started, I thought he might have had a belly ache, so we removed this, but the only thing that changed here was that he didn't wake up after 1/2 hour of initially putting him down. Although I havent returned to my home made teat either......
I thought for a while it might be diet, but there is not one thing that seems to trigger it more than anything else. His diet is still fairly basic and no new things have been introduced lately to disrupt the status quo.
Im at a loss as to why he wakes in the middle of the night. My husband (the true angel he is ) got up last night, gave him a small bottle of milk, changed his nappy and re-settled him and after a 5 min protest, my son went back to sleep really quickly (previously we could have been up for anything up to 1hour & 1/2).
We think there might be teeth, but there are no obvious signs of them arriving any time soon and if we go to our son, he stops crying, which to me is not a physical pain thing otherwise he would keep crying.
Im open to suggestions, comments and any other questions as its such a random thing and all I want (as we all do) is a happy baby that sleeps through the night.

DS was born with his two bottom teeth - and for the last few days he's been trying to gnaw on his fists (usual newborn behavious I guess) but his wee is really smelly and a dark yellow colour. The smell is excatly the same as DD's which she gets when teething.

Is he dehydrated or teething do you think? The dark urine usually occurs after a long sleep (5 - 9 hrs). He hasn't got a temp or any other teething signs.

Hi,

My DS will be one in a week and is not showing any signs of crawling. He rolls straight onto his back when you put him on his tummy unless there is an absolutely riveting toy in front of him. He can roll everywhere, sits up fine and is very balanced when standing (with me holding his hands). I am thinking that he might be one of those kids who skip crawling all together. Anyone else had a similar experience?
