Formula for Colic babies

Hi everyone,

Not sure if I have asked this but I was wondering if anyone knew of formula that helps Colic babies, or lessens their wind donw below. Our little man is 6 weeks and on Karicare Gold, MCHN recommened LF as his colic has been worse in the last week and we only started on Karicare 2 weeks ago, or it may just be a coincidence. I'm happy to give Soy or LF but he is a big drinker so it doesn't satisfy him. Can you put thickener in it? We have some drops as you may have read about in other posts, and they are helping alot. Just wanted to eliminate anything ealse. My hubby has a slight allergy to full cream milk, and even though I don't, I drink LF myself and Soy. Thanks for any advice :)

I'm considering getting rid of my old Tupperware 'Modular Mates' storage and replacing them with something that doesn't stink of plastic! I figure that's the BPA everyone's always saying is bad for you...

What does everyone else use? My preference would be for glass or ceramic - but I would want them to be airtight too - which is harder with those materials.

What do you use?

breastfeeding baby when I have diahorrea: is imodium safe and is she sick?

I have some bug or other that gave me a fever (30 degrees) for about a day, with diahorrea that I thought was gone this morning but is now back with a vengeance. Yay (sorry: TMI really).

Anyway, so far DD seems to be fine, though she was really fussy all night a couple of nights ago, so maybe was feeling crook then. Except her temperature has been up a little, no more than 37.3 degrees (measured with a Braun ear thermometer), for the last 2 or 3 days. Normally her temp measures as less than 36.5, but I'm not really sure if this 37 or so is a fever or if it's normal, healthy, temp variation.

What I'm wondering is two things:

1. Would you take a baby to a doctor who had a temperature that seemed to be slightly up for a few days in a row? My inclination is not to, unless something else happens that makes me worry that she's sick/

2. Is it obvious when a BF baby gets some gastro bug? Her poos are runny anyway. Will I know if she's sick?

3. If I take some imodium will it be OK for her given that I'm breastfeeding. I don't know if it's safe, and it's hard for me to have a conversation about this in Spanish with a pharmacist (we're in Madrid and my Spanish isn't really that good).

Any ideas on any of these?

We are expecting our second bub, due on the 29th of July 2010, and I am so happy to be giving DD a sibling and the chance to be a big sister. I know she will do a wonderful job as a big sister, and I can't wait for her to meet her little brother or sister.

The stigma against homebirth, and how I'm inadvertantly contributing to it

Hi all,

Just some food for thought... posts by bath and Kaz in another thread got me thinking...

There is a generally misconception amongst the oublic that having a homebirth is an inherently risky thing to do- an underlying assumption that if you homebirth, you are putting yourself and your child at risk. We've all seen it plenty of places- my dh said to me while I was in labour that the hospital was 'the safest place to be', my MIL cried after dd was delivered because 'anything could have happened, without a dr here!'. My mum was horrifed when her work colleagues intially assumed i had planned a homebirth, not had one accidentally.

And i am contributing to the stigma. When the subject of dd's birth comes up, I always add a disclaimer- "She was born at home..by accident". I even went and edited the link in my sig to say 'accidental'. And it's because i don't want people to think I planned a homebirth= I don't want them to think i was risking my baby's safety. I know that's not true- I know how safe and peaceful homebirths can be. yet i still feel the need to protect myself from accusations of being a 'hippy' ;) and the negative connations that seems to bring. I think it might be time to stop doing that, and just smile and say proudly "She was homebirthed" and leave it at that.

I'm so glad i had a bit of an education (thanks, BB) in how good hb can be, and how safe it really is, and how birht is not, by it's nature, a dangerous thing to do. It was the "BB Brainwashing" (as my dh so nicely puts it) that stopped me from being scared ****less during dd's birth.

Hey guys,
My lil guy is getting too big for his bassinette already, and is also starting to roll. He has had a few sleeps during the day in his cot and doesn't have any problem with it. He is a great sleeper and very easy to settle. My thing is I don't feel ready for him to be in his own room just yet. He is just over 3 months and I really like having him close by during the night. DH and I were thinking of moving the cot into our room till we feel a bit more ready. As for DS, he probably wouldn't mind either way - I think it's more me IYKWIM....
So, have many people done this? Is it harder to then get them into thier own room? Even though he is growing so quickly, he is still my precious little boy - I don't think I'm ready for the big boy room but really would love to hear of your experiences to help make an informed choice.
Thanks Rach xx

I've been thinking about it & wondered if anyone would take advice on VBACs from someone who's attempt failed? By that I mean someone that actually went into labour but had a caesarean anyway, not someone that planned a VBAC but had to have a caesarean due to medical issues before labour (breech, placenta previa etc).

I have to wonder now where I fit in the birth world. How can I give advice to people about VBACs when my attempt failed? How can I talk about the benefits when I have no clue in the real world, only in theory? A friend of mine told me the other day that is she was to have a third (1st was VB, 2nd was C/S) she was unsure about how to birth. Two years ago prior to my second caesarean I would have said go for a VBAC without a seconds thought. Now I feel like I'm jaded, like what's the point in trying because there is always the chance that your going to end up like me & having a 2nd casearean anyway. Of course I didn't say that, it's up to her to decide but I feel like I can't give her advice because obviously what I did didn't work.

Hello,

Not sure if this is the right place.. but ... Im going to a Grecian, Roman, Egyptian and Indian/Bollywood Themed Party...

Im having problems deciding what DH and I should wear. Now Im not a skinny person so costume shops arent really a good idea. I was thinking of going Bollywood.. I love all the colours! I was thinking of going to a Indian clothes shop and looking around. But someone told me the outfits can cost around $200..

I thought maybe get DH some white cotton/linen pants from target/bigW/Kmart but not sure about the top.. I looked on one site for a gold top and its like $500!!

Thats a little much for a one off outfit.. Any suggestions.. I only have one week to organise everything..:wall::wall:

hi all

DS is 18 months and when we was about 16 months old he seemed to be dropping off on the feeding - he was down to one a day, sometimes even missing a day.

then something happened and he upped his BFs. now he has a feed before and after each bedtime (at night and one nap in the day). to me it sounds like he needs the comfort but no matter how i try to just cuddle and comfort, he wants a BF.

i've always let DS take the lead with food, BFing and sleeps but i'm worried that he's not going to stop on his own. i really don't want to be BFing him for too much longer as i'd like to have a second bub and would prefer to give my body some time to fully replenish after BFing and before i fall pregnant.

any advice or ideas welcome.

TIA :D

Grrr I need to vent! I absolutly love my cushie tushies they are just so ultra cute, BUT I'm getting so annoyed at the amount I'm having to take back and swap!!! So far out of 21 I have had to swap two with seams coming undone after only two washes and one that the elastic has gone after about the same amount of time....My baby is only 3.5 weeks old and already another three are looking like the elastic is going!!
Also One nappy is about an inch and a half smaller than all the rest (So not gonna fit for as long!) and one is about that much bigger! And I won't take the smaller one back cause they don't have any stock in that pattern and its my fav!! :wall: It really makes me upset that such an expensive nappy has been constructed so poorly. I did email cushie tushie directly to let them know how much I loved the nappies but was extreamly dissapointed and havn't even got a reply.....(It wasn't a nasty email!!!! But now I'm more dissapointed)
I need to get more nappies for my stash cause at the moment I'm washing everyday cause they take a bit to dry but don't think I'll be buying anymore cushie tushies, I get sick of taking them back!

Is my 7.5week old 'overstimulated'

Hi

Just in the last week my 7.5 week old baby has decided to start a new behaviour and its seems to happen mostly when she has been around my parents and siblings (they are very loud and over the top -crazy) - normally my household is very quiet with just hubby, myself and baby so when my family come to visit the house is a nightmare - very noisy and people not giving the baby any space and constantly talking to her and making funny noises etc etc.

DD is not used to this as we are generally a very quiet household.. SO once my family leave all is fine EXCEPT when it hits evening and the trouble begins - DD will start to make tired noises and little tired cry so i go to try to put her to sleep and all of the sudden she is completely alert and her little arms and legs go wild with kicking and moving (like she is trying to swim) and this continues for HOURS. Both times this week I would say on average she goes wild for 4-6hours with a mini feed inbetween (breastfeed) which is broken up by her coming of the breast and making tired cries. Nothing i do works with her arms and legs going crazy. I have tried swaddling (ends in tears) tried rocking and ssshhing, tried putting her down, tried giving her to hubby , tried the bath and she loves it except when i take her out she screams hysterically..

I really have no idea as to what i am supposed to do (first baby) its stressful as usually i am exhausted by the time she goes down and only to have to wake up to feed her an hour later etc etc.

Any tips and does this sound like she is overstimulated ? My family just does NOT understand me when i tell them to back off and give the baby a break - my mother looks at me as if i am overprotective and then they all whinge when i wont let them hold her..

Really doing my head in but not sure what to do....

my little girl Georgia is nearly 10.5months old and I am nearly 8 weeks preg, I originally planned on BF for 6 months but that came and went and we have had a wonderful journey even through the arrival of teeth and biting ouch!!!

I think i would like to wean when she is one but I dont really know where to start, I dont want to put her onto cows milk straight away but what formula should I use and should I start to introduce some now. She has never had a bottle so do I give it to her in a sippy cup??

I dont wish to tandem feed.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated I really have no idea how to wean or what to expect.

I'm having a party tomorrow afternoon and nearly everyone that rsvp'ed that they were coming has now said they can't come!
Seriously...it's it just me who thinks if you RSVP yes to an event you should go unless there is some extenuating circumstance?!!!??? I can't think of anything that i've just decided that oh i don't feel like that today, i'm not going to go - and i'll be the first to admit there have been times where i've been sick or DD or DH have been so sick that I need to be at home, or other family things have come up and I can't attend, but I don't not go just because I don't feel like it.
Theres all the organisation and catering that goes into a party, people don't ask for an RSVP because they think it's a fun thing to do.

It's one of my biggest pet hates!

Cardiolipin Antibodies

Hey everyone,

After trying to fall pregnant for what feels like forever (im sure that is how we all feel about it), I have just been diagnosed with moderate cardiolipin antibodies. I was tested twice about 6 weeks apart and both blood tests came back with the same result. I will begin daily clexane injections the day i have my next embryo transfer and if i do fall pregnant will continue on the injections throughout the pregnancy.

Just wondering if there is anyone out there who has the same condition can share there experience with me and also apart from the pregnancy thing whether the condition has had any other impact on their health or life in general.

Thanks

Hi guys,

Just wanted some thoughts from you guys if possible.
we are TTC and BD many times around ovulation this cycle.
About 7 days after ovulation I felt twinges and slight cramping and have continued to feel the cramps since. Now I feel Ovulation pain every cycle which usually lasts for about 3 days. So i assumed if we were successful i would feel implanatation pain but i have done 4 hpt since and all have been negative.
my AF is due tomorrow so i would've thought if I was successful it would be showing up positive on a HPT by now.
anyway thats fine but im wondering what the cause of the cramps were. (i never get cramping unless its AF or O) Im worried i may have some cysts or something. Or perhaps I just read too much into things!!
anyone else have cramping during the TWW and think you are pregnant then find out you aren't?

I purchased a couple of things off ebay last week from two different sellers, both which arrived yesterday. The thing is I was overcharged for postage with both of them. The first item I was overcharged 2.90 and the second item 7.55. So my question, should I let it go? With the second item the seller threw in a couple of freebies which would easily cost $8 so I should be happy, but a part of me thinks what if they do it to every buyer? What do you ladies think?

I am not newly preggers, but I am UTD with no.3... has 2 previous pregnancies both bubs big, 10 lbs 2 oz 38cm head and 10 lbs 13 oz 40 cm head!!! Both were via c section and I hope this bubs head is smaller so I can try naturally... unless my time overdue runs out of course cause they wont induce me!!!

anyhow my youngest now is 18 mths old, there was a 3 year gap witht he 2 I have now, so I am terrified nervous and super excited!!! I dont know what to expect with a 3rd bub, or having a newborn bubba in the house with a 2 year old who is pretty much still a little bubba himself.

I've had a few problems with this pregnancy so far, and heard the bubs heart the 1st time the other day so I feel far more confident and so releived! I am 14 weeks on tuesday...

I have my 18 week scan 3 days before chrissy and honestly just cant wait!!!!

Just wanted to spill the beans... Im preggers 3rd bubba last one and super excited!!! yaaay!!!

My 2 year old dd has refused to have her hair put up for months and is very touchy when we go to put it up, so basically her hair has been down for all of the winter. I finally got to put it up a little while back...maybe 2 weeks ago and noticed that she has dry skin on the back of her neck, which has now moved to behind her ears and down the front of her neck. At the back of her neck at the hair line, there is flakey skin and also a patch at the crown of her head. Its hard to see because she has so much hair and its long too, past her shoulder blades. She started rubbing her head on the back of her shoulders iykwim and complaining that its itchy. Because she rarely lets us put her hair up I am contimplating cutting it to above shoulder length.

So does it sound like cradle cap? She does get a bit of light eczema over her body but it doesnt look like that. She is also allergic to yeast, so could it be fungal I am wondering? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers Melissa

1st Dec to decorate. Where did it start?

This may be a silly question but one of you guys might able to help. It has been irking me for a while.

Growing up mum always insisted that it was tradition to put your tree and decorations up on the 1st December. I have tried to find out why but come up with conflicting info.

Is this a real tradition? and what is the basis behind it? or is it just something mum did to stop us bugging her? :)

IYKWIM? :)

Thanks

If I feel like this, does it mean this is my last pregnancy?

I always kind of thought I'd have 4 kids. Both DH and I did.

But here I am pregnant with Number 3 and I am so, so tired. My veins hurt already (I have problem varicose veins and will need surgery on them one day, have known this for the last 15 years).

The morning sickness has gone, but I am still just drained. I cannot imagine how I would cope with 3 little kids and being pregnant with a fourth...especially considering that DS would be at school so I would have a school run to contend with every morning, instead of just pacing myself until I feel okay.

The exhaustion affects the way I parent too. I hardly ever feel like I'm on my "A Game" anymore and I feel like I'm ripping off DS and DD.

And I just don't want to go through another pregnancy and labour. It just feels like a chore. As much as I am excited about this new little baby, I am really not looking forward to labour again and no, my previous labours weren't traumatic.

I would like to know when I lose my preggy weight this time, that I won't be facing the prospect of putting it all on and taking it all off again.

Does this mean I am "done" and this is my last? Because, emotionally, I would love to have a 4th child but I just don't want to go through pregnancy and labour again LOL. But I think that physically my body has had enough.

How do I know when I'm done? Is this a sign?

How much does your diet affect the size of the baby?

I'm pregnant with Number 3. DS was 3.83kgs, DD was 4.27kgs.

OB has warned me that babies tend to get bigger with each subsequent pregnancy and that I might want to make sure I reach for the carrot sticks rather than the cake during this pregnancy. She said it in a nice way, not having a shot at me at all - from a self preservation perspective I guess!

I ate pretty well with both DS and DD, sure I put away some chocolate but on the whole I was pretty good. And DH is a big guy, rugby player type of build...I'm sure there's a genetic factor going on a bit here.

So...how much does what you eat affect the baby's size? Anyone know? I'm not too worried, I just think DH and I make babies that are on the large side, but at the same time, if I had to choose, I'd pick an 8 pounder over a 10 pounder, if you know what mean....?
