Default Need donor sperm after any advice on how to go about it

Hi my dh has kf syndrome we just did our 3rd ivf cycle and collected 6 eggs which have been frozen! My dh had a biopsy done and they found no sperm so we now have to use donor sperm! We have talked and decided that we will not be using family or friends and I am now faced with finding the right place to start.
Our clinic does not do this with unknown donors so we need to change.
If anyone has any advice I wouldlove to hear from u, we are in Sydney.

As I said in my previous post in response to your other question here my best advice to you is to start ringing around clinics.

As you have asked a more specific question here - IVF Australia will use anonymous donors, however their clinic in Westmead had a waiting list 3 years ago - not sure if they still do.

Goodluck!

Hello,

sorry to hear you need donor sperm too.

Im with IVF Australia and it is a long waiting list for donor sperm 12 month to 18 month wait. It doesnt matter which clinic in sydney you go to they are all the same throughout sydney. Im with Westmead. All the clinics use the same sperm bank. They can't import sperm but if you do and want to use it with them they will do this I think. Well it says it on their website. We have been on the waiting list with IVF Australia from March 2009 and the likelihood of being called is somewhere between March 2010 and september 2010. So yes they still have a long waiting list.

Westmead hospital IVF called Westmead Fertility Center. Has only 5 men on their books and I was there 2 months ago. 2 donors have already been used to have 3 children so you would only be able to have 2 children by either of these. One man actually has a question mark against his sperm sample for an STI (woah). I didnt think a clinic could use this sperm. And another has problems with thawing sperm. Leaving one man who hasn't been used yet.

Westmead Fertility Centre also use BMI calculations to determine if you will be treated. So if your BMI is not in the healthy weight range then don't bother with them. They won't treat you even if your 1/2 kilo overweight.

Here is a link to a BMI calculator Calculate your BMI - Standard BMI Calculator

There is a IVF Clinic in RPA hospital, not sure if there is a waiting list for sperm. Never rang them as I think they have the same BMI requirements as the one at Westmead.

There is Sydney IVF (its not the same as IVF Australia).. You could ring them about donor sperm.

There is Fertility First in Hurstville. Apparently don't have a waiting list and they use overseas sperm donors. I have an appointment with them on the 17th of Nov. They recommend weight loss but its NOT a necessity like WFC.

Ummm thats all the information I have I hope this helps you.

hugs!!

Thanks Red Lady for your information.
I have been ringing around and it does look like Fertility First or the Canberra clinic are our best options.
Do you know if Fertility First will stil be using donor sperm from o/s as of next year as most clinics seem to not be?
Good luck to you and fingers crossed that all goes well with FF.
I would be interested to hear how you go! We havent made any final decisions about what the right path is for us yet still gettting thru the reality of it all first so thats why i was curious about next year if things will change?
Hugs to you too,
x

Hi Blossom,

I rang FF and they said that they have been over to the company in america and signed all the forms. They expect to still be able to use O/S sperm donors next year.

I have heard its up to individual clinics whether they import sperm or not.

The IVF Australia clinics allow you to import your own sperm for insemination but they dont import. So I dont think this law is being changed I will ask the doctor when I see her on the 17th of Nov

Thanks so much for that.
So if you go to IVF Australia you can go to the sperm banks o/s yourself and they can implant for you?
Good luck on the 17th.

Re the one man that hasnt been used it ...correction to that ...I'm currently using him!!

Also Westmead never asked a single question about me being overweight or said that they wouldnt treat me because of it ..they have always been very professional and polite to me

Blossom - You can get Overseas Sperm imported from a sperm bank in America if it complies with the new donor law of being on a contactable register. Then the clinic at IVF Australia can inseminate you. Thats how it works. I don't know if you have the sperm imported to the clinic or not. I never got that far as I found Fertility First thanks to someone who tipped me off about it. They NEVER say they won't treat because of weight.

Thanks Blossom for the well wishes for the 17th its only another one week and two days away. YAY I might be able to get started soon woohoo. Will keep you in touch with anything I find out.

Stilltrying - What is your BMI may I ask? They told me that I since I was over BMI of 30 that they wouldn't treat me until I lost weight 10 kilos. They said ideally 30kgs. I talked with Dr Howard Smith the director of the place and he refused me treatment!! Did they do your height and weight? If they did and they had no problem then you must be under the BMI they want. And are being treated.

It would also seem your out to prove me wrong on here. When I went to the centre the only man not being used was just that. Not used, it may have changed which in your case obviously. Good luck with it.

We aren't using the blonde hair donor as we can't till I loose the weight. They have flatly refused me.

You might state your overweight but you might not be by much for them to treat you
