Question Night sobbing and lighting

For the past week DS has been getting progressively harder and harder to put down for his night time sleep. It started that he would talk for an hour (no issues with that) and then this talking would get more and more upset as the week has gone on . He has also been waking during the night with trying to get him back down harder and harder.

Previously he has been a dream.

Last night he was inconsolable. Just lying there sobbing into his matress. I tried all i could think of and then left the hallway light on and his door open and voila asleep...

He has never ever slept with his door open or the light on.

And just this evening after trying everything i dug out a night light plugged it in and within five minutes silence...

Has anyone else had this occur? Why? Is it normal to suddenly go from no light to needing one? im a little perplexed...

is it possible he's had a nightmare and woken disoriented in the dark at some point, so it's made him uncomfortable?
or perhaps now that the days are getting longer, he's going to sleep when there is still light from outside coming in, and waking in the dark and being frightened cos it's a different light quality to when he went to sleep?

i'm not sure of the reason, but if something like a night light works, go with it!

Smile Night terrors??

I had this issue with each of my boys when they reached an age of having night terrors. We used a bathroom light to dimly light their room for DS1 (and make a path to the toilet if they needed it) and were fine a few months later. DS2 started on this path and re-ignited the whole thing a while ago now. It was all a big drama waking up all three of the boys *until* DS1 got glow in the dark stars for his birthday. Go figure!

I just wish I thought of it two years ago!
