BabyMama is doing well
Default Molars, snot and clingy...

hi all

DS has been getting his molars and canines for the last 2 weeks and now he's caught my cold. it's the first time he's been sick so it's heartbreaking for us

anyhoo, he's been wanting to be cuddled to sleep and sometimes won't let me put him down once he's asleep (he's been putting himself to sleep for about 8 months previous to this). i found that when i cuddled to sleep before, he was unable to self-settle and he woke very frequently at night as a result (sometimes hourly!!).

i'm completely torn - i want to provide the extra comfort that he obviously needs at the moment but i don't want to (can't) go back to hourly wake ups.

is it possible for him to 'unlearn' to self-settle? i'm afraid that once he gets over this rough patch that he won't put himself to sleep any more and i'll be back to cuddling to sleep for an hour and then waking up hourly at night.

Hi BabyMama.

HUGS to you, it is hard when they are sick isn't it.

Ok so, I just went through 2 weeks of this with my ds (he had ear infection, teeth coming thru and a cold). He too wouldn't let me put him down for the whole 2 weeks. He wouldn't go to dh or my mum or dad he just wanted me.

When i did put him in his own bed, he too woke hourly and wanted to be rocked back to sleep.

This week is the first time he has been feeling better and so he is back in his cot now instead of our bed.

once in his own bed, I found that he did wake during the night, he cried too, but by the time I got up to cuddle him he had put himself back to sleep. (when he is well, he never usually wakes up at all during the night)

I reckon your ds will go back to self settling, it may just take a couple of weeks. So far its only been since monday for us that ds has been better so I will let you know how it goes and if I come up with any other ways to help.
