Unhappy Up to 8 Wake Ups and a Sudden Velcro Baby

We've been having some sleep "issues" (annoying but not the end of the world stuff) for a little while now.
DS would normally feed to sleep but would also go to sleep for DH and normally woke anywhere between 3-5 times per night. Although we did have 2 nights about a week and a half ago with only TWO wake ups - BLISS!!!
We Co-Sleep and want to continue to do so - especially while he's still not sleeping through.

Over the last week or so though DS has become very clingy....won't sleep for DH and if he is tired will just cry / whine until I take him - which is causing dramas in itself and strealing the very very small amount of "me" time I manage to wrangle.

The last 4 night he has woken no less than 7 times
About 5 of those times he's fed - not a massive feed but a decent one anyway.
The other 2 times (sometimes more) he just wants the boob like a dummy....

He feeds well during the day and has about 3-4 sleeps depending on whether we're in the car or out walking etc.
If we're just kicking around home he'll normally go to sleep on the boob and then I put him in his swing and go and do some stuff - but since this has all started I can't put
him down because the minue I move him away from my body he jolts himself awake....

He won't go to bed with me during the day and always wants to me entertained so there isn't a lot of time for me to sleep - not that I am good at sleeping during the day anyhow so I am absolutely shattered.

DH keeps telling me to "fix" him as there must be something that can be done - he's even gone so far to tell me to put him on formula overnight so he sleeps through which I am not willing to do....

Any thoughts?? I woudl really appreciate them....

He sounds perfectly normal. I hate to say it but my DS did the exact same thing. I don't think there is anything you can do to 'fix' it but just ride it out.

I personally wouldn't try formulae, there is no garuantee that it will work and it could cause more problems. He could be teething but it could also be a developmental stage. At about blues age my DS wanted me to sit with him so he would be sitting up or hold his hands so he could stand, this would be for hours at a time.

I know this is hard but let the house slide for a few days, especially on the nights he wakes up so many times. I promise it will pass.

yes yes yes !!!!
Also Blue wants to jump in his jolly jumper for about half an hour with me sitting in front of him ...LOL

I think he might be teething - smelly nappies and constant drooooolllll

Just starting to get to the point where I worry that I am not caring for him properly because I am so tired I'm almost out of it IYKWIM?

I do know what you mean, I have been there many times, but somehow you manage to put on foot in front of the other and keep going (most of the time)
Now this might be frowned upon but I have been known to "snooze" on the lounge while DS plays around me . Of course I know there is nothing he can get into and I either have some toys that he is really into or the TV. I am not fully asleep and wake at the slightest strange noise but it has helped when I have been desperate. The first couple of times it happened I didn't know cause I just couldn't keep my eyes open so when I knew I was like that I prepared more. Hope that made sense

Hun,

It sounds to me like he's having one of those developmental/milestone things...!!! I went to a Pinky McKay (her books are EXCELLENT reads) talk the other week. She said when your baby gets like this, to ride it out... give them the comfort they need, lots of cuddles, boob etc.... it will pass.

My DD LOVES my boobs as a dummy too and I let her.... makes for a more content baby I've worked out

Hun, no need to put him on formula.... keep breastfeeding him especially if you are enjoying it and it's going well It's what nature intended anyway
Follow your instincts.... YOU know what is best.

I know how you feel though in terms of sleeps during the day. I don't get much either as DD only sleeps 3 times a day (if that) and only 30mins-1hr not much more than that each sleep! And there is housework etc to do! But she is wonderful at night so I can't complain (sleeps 7-7 with 1 feed in between!! She's BF).
Try and lie down in bed and just snuggle with his favourite toy during the day thats what i do... or i let DD use me as a dummy and suck away and sometimes she just might fall asleep hehe

I have done that too.... i used to barricade the lounge room off so my ds1 couldnt get into the kitchen and i used to fall asleep on couch ...
(the unit was small and it worked so well the tv is a great distraction when you are exhausted)

Blue knows that bed is for sleep so will scream blue murder if we go there before bedtime ...LOL

I won't put him on formula - no way - no how.
I know he's getting enough he's 8kgs for crying out loud so all the well meaning ppl IRL who tell me he's not sleeping because he's "starving" can go jump heheehhe

He loves TV but not enough to keep him entertained in his swing etc while I sleep - and to be honest my body just will not sleep during the day - I've never been able to - even back in my partying days ...LOL

oh well as the others say you will need to ride this one out with your bub.... i can imagine a few walks in the pram today may be in order so you dont go stir crazy if bub wont settle for you ....i remember that all to well. If its teeth you can try some panadol that may settle him down and just maybe make bub sleep!

OMG thats funny but so annoying as well....

This is getting of your topic a tad (and please take this the right way) but: does your DH help you when he gets home or does he believe that the baby is your domain ?

Bit of both - he's kinda loving that DS won't settle for him because it means he can just hand him back to me - but then at the same time whinges that I have ruined him by feeding to sleep

He will help but just won't be all sunshine and roses about it ......

mate. Rough isn't it. Darcy also did the separation thing at that age. While it's lovely to be needed, time out is too.
Is he starting to do something new? Sit up maybe or roll both ways...Nate was rubbish for a few nights last week and all of a sudden he doesn't stay on the floor where I leave him :scratchhead: He and his sister think it's a great lark, but their little brains go overtime everytime they learn something new.

Hey Kim ...

Yep he's rolling both ways now - trying valiantly to sit up and munch his toes all the fun stuff.

It seems that it will pass thank goodness
