| | Im getting really worried now... DS has been quite ill, it will have been for a week tomorrow. the whole story so far is detailed in this thread so annoyed with GP
All the doctors I have spoken to (4 in 4 days.. ) have all said he would be better by now, he is not.
I dont know what I should do, is it normal for kids to have such high temps for this long? panadol today has only reduced his temp from 39+ down to 38.....
I have had to cancel his birthday party tomorrow, I am just so worried, its ok during the day, but when he wakes up screaming at 2am, with a high fever and shaking uncontrollably and absolutely inconsolably I get so scared.
He has lost a bit weight this week too, not eating, only drinking water and the occasional BFeed, he used to be in a size 1 and now he is in an 0 and they are baggy.

Is he teething?
I think its a good idea to take him to hospital if the fever hasn't dropped by now...

Huge
hope your DS gets better soon. 1 week seems quite long for a fever.
Let us know how it goes. Goodluck. |

I'm sorry to hear that he's no better hun. I agree that it sounds like time for a trip to the hospital. They might not find anything wrong, but even if it gives you some peace of mind it's worth it

thanks guys, I think I will head up to the womens and childrens, its just so frustrating to not know what is wrong, I just feel so helpless and useless to get him better.
His temp is back down to 37 now, he is sleeping quite peacefully at the moment, so thats a good thing.
so far we have only had about a 12 hr stretch of no fever....in 6 days!

Babe, you know your boy better than anyone on this earth. Follow your instinct and the feeling that he isn't right.
Go up to the hossy and ask them to give him a full check. It might require a urine sample or some bloods but it is worth it.
A week with a high grade temp is too long IMO.
I hope your beautiful little birthday boy is better soon.

Maybe get them to give him a chest xray? a 7 year old i know had a high fever and lethargic for 7 days and antibiotics didn't help. They diagnosed viral pneumonia via a chest xray.

| | DS has been like that for 3-4 days, but not a week. I would go to hospital too. Would also up the bfs if you can, just for extra fluid.
Sorry about the birthday, but you can celebrate later once he's all better.

thankyou all so much for your support and concern!
I ended up ringing the WCH the other night, they basically said that it sounds like avirus and as long as he is not getting dehydrated and the panadol is keeping his fever down, just to keep an eye on him, they did say that if he didnt improve within 24hrs to take him in.
well, on sat night I managed to give myself food poisoning (from eating something dodgy out the fridge, cos I was too damn tired to be bothered cooking!) so I was up all night to jacob and to go to the loo was not a good night!
then on sunday we had close family round for a small Bday celebration for jacob, he slept through most of it (I wish I could have!) I gave him another supp at around 1pm, and thank the stars his temp never rose again.
we all were in bed and asleep by 9pm last night, woke a few times for a feed, then we all got up around 8am this morning, Jacob was chatting like he hasnt ever before and trying to jump off the bed! His temp is still down I feel like a huuuuge weight has been lifted off my shoulders! I am still worried, but fingers crossed he keeps improving, he is already 100% on what he was like yesterday!
Sat night I bawled my eyes out to Dp about how much weight he had lost, dp was telling me not to be silly, but then last night we were looking at the photos on my camera from his little party and then at some other pics from about 2 weeks ago, ther is an obvious difference....so distressing, but I guess its a good thing that he had quite a bit of chubb to begin with.
He is back eating his fruit this morning too |
