Default Almost 9 and STILL picking his nose!

Im over it!!!!!

I just did something that i absolutely hate but im so sick of it

Ive warned him that I'd slap his nose, his face everything but what how can i stop my almost 9 year old

PICKING HIS NOSE AND EATING HIS SNOT

I just went to show him something on here, and after telling him already 4 times since he came home from school if I caught him again i;d slap his face he had his whole friggen fist up there!!

'slap' twice in a row cause he 'ahhhed' me when i did it the first time!

I am so over his behaviour atm...this is just plain disgusting and i honestly dont know why he does it.

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to make him stop???

Hun if he is anything like me, drawing attention to it will only make it worse (says a long time disgusting person). He will keep doing it and try to only do it when you aren't looking, but of course he will get caught. Please try as hard as you can to ignore it, but do let him know that if you see him doing it, it does upset you. I was always a defiant one, got in trouble for sucking my finger, so didn't stop until I was 8, got in trouble for biting my nails, still doing it at 23.

maybe just tell him to go to his room and do it where you cant see it..
cos i doubt your going to stop it apart from hurting him and yourself...

Tali - see I asked him if he does it at school and he says yes but only when he knows no-one can see so he is very awareof it

Ali - Ive tried ignoring it for 3 years hon...and there is only so many long gooey snots on fingers you can see going into your kids mouth...especially when there are 3 other kids sitting there watching him...VYolett has started biting her finger nails just like him too

Ive just booked him to play basketball twice a week....hopefully he'll be to occupied to worry about the deli up his nose.

I used to teach Yr6 and still had some doing it!! They'd get really embarrassed if anyone saw it, I never drew attention to it if I saw it, I just gave the kid a "look". Usually that was enough.
Maybe threaten to tel his teacher LOL

Oooooo I can understand your frustration! Gross!! My younger brother did the same until he was 11, coming up close to his 12th Birthday and my parents invented quite an elaborate story and convinced him that after 12 years of picking your nose and eating it, your nose caves in and your belly is so full of snot it won't work anymore so you have to have an operation on your 12th Birthday to suck out all the snot, but there's no way to fix the nose, it's caved in forever, I think they even found horrific photos of damaged noses etc and told him they were child nose pickers once upon a time and they didn't stop before they turned 12! They told him the only way to avoid the operation and having many needles and a caved nose forever was to stop picking your nose the day before your 12th birthday... Now I look back, WOW what a HORRIBLE way to influence the child, but IT WORKED! Well, that we know of, we never saw him pick his nose again, he always carried tissues and still does to this day... The story terrified him! Maybe there's something a bit milder than this method you could try if you're not feeling as mean and as desperate as my parents were that day! lol Good luck!!

At his age I'd just ask him if he could do it in the privacy of his own room so that you don't have to see it

lol! i know you are stressed about this, but it's still kind of amusing.
my DH is 28 and also picks his nose. But he doesn't eat it thank god... instead he rolls it into a ball and flicks it away... or puts it under my car seat... eewww.

i think it's a boy thing!!

i remember being a picker when i was little and my dad would always say "did you pick a winner or only second place''. it's a sort of kind way of embarrasing you to stop.

dunno if that'll help.

good luck!

There are worse things than that. My brother can snort a piece of spagetti up his nose then cough it back out his mouth so that he has one end hanging out his nostril and the other end hanging out his mouth!!! Then he pulls it back and forth.
And he can burp songs.

He's 33....

OH NO !
I dont know how to stop it - sorry ! I have caught my 6 year old picking his nose a few times and shot him down with "the look" - thankfully i have never seen him eat it.
My Niece used to eat her boogies and i was always completely grossed out - i had to say something - i couldnt help myself- yukko. They live on the mainland now so i dont have to see it.
Kids like gross things - maybe they like the warm gooey sensation !
Hard one - it definitely becomes a habit !

sorry, couldnt help myself - some of the comments had me in fits of laughter.
