Hi, I had my third c section last Monday (Feb 25) and now have what looks like an infection in my incision. I have been on hardcore antibiotics since last Thursday night, but there is still a part of my incision which is open. Is this normal? Will it heal on it's own or do I need to go and see the Dr? It doesn't look infected or pusy and the ends seem to have healed nicely. I can't recall having this problem with the last 2.
Any advice?

Thanks so much for your replies girls

MG - I had thought about the lights and skin to skin contact, also thought about taking in our own blanket. will discuss these ones with DH as well. I'm trying to write out as many things as I can, so when we have our next OB appointment I can ask him some questions and also thought I would see if he has any suggestions on anything we haven't thought of or other things he may have done with other c/s.

Won't have our hospital tour and midwife meet until somwhere around week 30, so that gives me a bit more time to think of some other questions as well.

Nic

get some gawn and put it near your incision so it can get air to it to help it heal. I had this terrible problem with my second and it took months to heal...then I worked out to let the air to it (lets face it..that tummy flap doesnt help with the healing process) I had to use the gaws or a very thing flannel, folded in half and put under my 'apron'. I also got some antiseptic powder from my chemist that I could dust on the yucky area. Have you got some Benbathen matie??? put some of that on your incision to...its helps nappy rash and it also helps festy areas.

Hope it heals soon matie.

Nic - glad your getting your head around things. Keep a note pad around the house so when you think of things you can write it down and wont forget...Like I would have liked some soothing music playing..not for me but for my babies. i didnt even think of it until afterwards..DOOH!

Hey Maz, thanks for the advice. I am putting sterile absorbant pads on it twice a day to soak up the ooze, and my Ob said not to put betadeine on it (not sure as I thought it would help dry it out). What is gawn though? I'm trying to get some air to it when I can, but with a newborn, 2 and 4 year old, lying around on my back for a couple of minutes is asking for trouble!
This is the only thing which is holding me back at the moment. We have a healthy bub, DH is home on holidays for 3 weeks and the older 2 kids are doing OK, so I really want this fixed ASAP.

HON - Pm me your address, ive got a spare one here and I'll send it to you so you know what it looks like. I couldnt 'air' mine out either...god not with 4 kids..pmsl but this helped me cause it absorbed the ouze and kept the area dry. A midwife at the hospital loaded me up on them when I was in there.
Again, I'll send you the one I have here and I'll also look aroudn and see if I have anymore left

ETA - I also got told to use long panty liners or pads , fold them in half long ways and use them. Just incase you have any around the house

I had my 3rd C 8 weeks ago, recovery was fantastic better than my other 2 but during the op my ob said my uterus resembled a fish bowl because it was transparent around the scar??? I asked at my 6 week check up about the possiblity of having 1 more and he said he didn't recomend it because it was thin around the scar on my uterus. He said if I did have another one I should go to a big hospital. My ob is a very cautious man and even before he did the op he mentioned several times that 3 c's is more than he recomends for anyone, and yeah gave me the "you should have your tubes tied" lecture I don't want to close the book even if I do decide not to have another baby I want the option kwim?
Has anyone else had this?

Have had a chat with our OB, and he will be doing a spinal, with the catheter to be put in after! So a big woohoo from me there lol.

He said DH will come in after I have the spinal done though

Also, no bub or DH in recovery with me. They will wrap bub asap, and hand to DH for cuddles beside me for a few minutes then send DH and bub back to my room for more warm cuddles, until I return from recovery.

He prefers a stay of 5 days afterwards! How long did you girls stay for? Bub will be born on a Monday, and I suggested to the OB that I leave Thursday, (would prefer Wednesday to be honest) and he was a little shocked at me wanting to leave that 'early'
He did say they will leave the catheter in for the first night, unless I get really pushy about having it removed that arvo. He suggested leaving it in, giving bub to the midwives to take to the nursery for the night and having a little something for me to get a good night's sleep, and that when bubs needs a feed they will bring him to me.

We have our hospital visit on June 10, so will ask them all about taking a camera in for pics.

Nic

I stayed for 6 days with my first c/s but bub was in SCN . I honestly could have left on day 3. I left n day 4 with my next 2 c/s and could have left on day 2 or 3 but both bubs were also in SCN (unrelated to c/s)

I think its a good idea to get some rest that first night. but ask that bub is brought to you for feeds. (if thats what you want of course)

Mumof6. Congrats on the birth f Breah hope it all went well

Hi Nic, I know you may be keen to get out of there as soon as possible, but I would suggest that you wait until your milk has come in and make sure that bubs is attaching OK. If you go home on Wednesday, your milk probably won't be through, and it is much easier to see the Lactation Consultant when you are in hospital. Also the day 3 blues will be kicking in about Wed/Thurs and it is nice to have someone there to take the baby or to just hand you a tissue!
Also the catheter thing, they like to leave it in overnight and you are still pretty numb from the waist down until the next day. I had my last baby on the Monday afternoon and the catheter stayed 'til Tuesday when they got me out of bed. The drains however stayed until Thursday.

Where are you having your baby and who is your Ob?

OMG Nic look how far along you are, it will not be long before your much wanted bub will be here

I stayed in hospital for 7 days with Matthew after my c/s, I was under Private care, for next bub I think I`ll stay the 7 days again just so I can have some peace and quiet with just bub and me to bond before coming home

Hey dee, yep almost time hey! It's starting to get a little scary now.

Thanks for the replies about your length of stay girls muchly appreciated.
When we leave hospital we will be going back to my parents place for about another week, then coming home and DH will still have another couple of weeks off, after that as well.

Kirsten, will be having bub in Rocky.

Hi Nic,

If you're planning on breastfeeding, I would suggest that you don't room your baby out. If you need help, just get the midwives to come in and assist you at each feed time or when you need help your settle bub. Those early hours are crucial to breastfeeding success. Best of luck.
