| | Birth Rights Rally - VIC
Hey all,
Following on from THIS thread, here is a list of those going from NSW & ACT and discussion on travel arrangements.
Maybe we can all wear something purple or something else so we can recognise other BB members... maybe even have BB balloons! We'll definitely have to see if we can have a BB lunch somewhere after the rally.
If you are flying, bussing, or wanting to share transport, please post here!

I'm going, no idea how I'm getting there but open to suggestions ...
(somehow I have a vision of a purple bus a-la-Priscilla style making the way to ACT)

I'm going - about to book my ticket with Tiger Airways - going to cost $76 plus $5 to choose a standard seat (need the aisle cos I'll be pregnant enough to maybe need to go to the loo within that hour of flying!). Will add hotel booking later, when I see what others are doing and where they're going to be
I've selected the Sunday flight that leaves at about 8pm, earliest Sunday flight available! Leaving Monday evening. Maybe other ralliers booked out earlier flights already, for that price!!
Kaz - I haven't booked yet, awaiting clarification with another Booby Club member to see if she'll book the same flights. We could all travel to the airport together, cos she's a hills chick, too

Ooooh, Bath - if you go, let me know, I'm sure I can change the room booking to get a room with more beds! I found a good room that between 3 parties would have come to about $60 each, for a 4 star room right near Parliament, on a corporate rate. I'm sure I could change it around, as long as I don't cancel all together on them |

Sounds good Maya! I just have to kinda confirm whether I'll need to do another interstate flight this year... might need to go back to Nth NSW to see family... also whether we get a tax refund or have to pay tax will have a bearing on whether I can afford to go. So don't change anything for yourself at this stage Maya. I'll try to let you know ASAP... maybe we can upgrade like you said.

hi all. I'd very much like to attend the rally. I was really hoping for a homebirth for our angel baby & DH & I were both getting an education. Unfortunately, bub died.
So whilst I am a little nervous about surrounding myself with pregnant women (just having a hard time dealing with things), this is an isssue I feel really passionate about. It affects us more now, as whilst bub # 1 was due January 2010 & we had a chance for a homebirth, we're not looking at TTC again until October, so doing the maths, that's at least a July birth, if not later, which takes us into the forced hospital birth. Having recently been in a private hospital for a D&C, it totally turned me off that environment for birth.
Anyway, can someone please give me the details (or point me to a link) - what time is the rally? Where do we meet? What time does it finish? What other activites are planned around it?
I need to decide whether to fly up the night before or just come up for the day. As I'll be by myself ( DH can't get leave), I think I might fly up on the day (arr: 8:30am). I'll be using frequent flyer points, so would like to book soon.
I've never been to a rally - I assume sensible shoes are required?
TIA

I received this by email today, for those able to attend (I won't be able to ): Quote:
We are holding a public meeting to discuss the governments proposed legislations on homebirth midwives. Please come along to find out what you can do to help, raise awareness and help us show that it is an important issue to many women. There will be some local politicians to talk with, and also media coverage. Lets make it HUGE, and show that we will not allow this to happen!
9:30 am, Friday 24th July
@ Cafe 8, Yarra Junction.
Hope to see you all there.
| At the very least it's a nice drive out that way!

I've decided to go up & back in a day & save on accommodation. Arrive Canberra 8:30, the rally's 11:30-2:30, then flying home at 7:30, so will have to kill time in the afternoon in the museum or something.
How's everyone else's plans?

Got my rally t-shirt! Thanks to Leasha (Alternatykes), it's such a great looking top and feels beautiful I got the 'Home Sweet Homebirth' one and I LOVE it! Now, not to wear it out before the rally...
I'll be cutting it fine with Tiger Airways and may need to get a doc cert to cover me for flying. Unless I just don't tell them what stage I'm at, cos I don't look like I'm as preggy as I am...and it's a flight that lasts under an hour |

Aggghhh.... it's quite frustrating. DH hasn't done his tax return yet... so I still don't know if we are going to get a bill or a rebate. He also said that he might be able to take a few days off work... but he's been sick at home all this week (so now might not be able to). I just don't seem to be in control of anything.
Your T-shirt shounds great Maya... any photos online???

yay, Julie! Someone's going to have to introduce me to you - I'll ask the HBITH crew if they can point you out to me
Bath - no pics yet...it's been a bit cool to wear it, but might wear it to a family do tomorrow! Pics go up as soon as I can get DP to photograph me in it! Midwives Naturally has a cool t-shirt they had made, too.

Wow, great effort Julie!
Mayaness - I got mine yesterday too
We're going to make a bit of a trip of it - going to Sydney for Sat/Sun morn and then Canberra for Sun afternoon / Monday.
My uncle is very ill and its likely that we won't see him again after this trip, and I'd like him to see Pip before it's too late.
Now to find accomodation in Canberra!
