Wow! Some of these nursery rhymes i haven't heard for years.
After bath time whilst getting DS dressed for bed, i normally sing him 'The Hokey Pokey'

You put your right foot in,
You put your right foot out;
You put your right foot in,
And you shake it all about.
You do the Hokey-Pokey,
And you turn around.
That's what it's all about!

{Then repeat for other foot, each arm and then whole body}
This is as far as i get, cos i think DS doesn't like my singing

I think the original song also had your nose and bum aswel??

I found a link to a website with thousands of kids songs and lyrics. Does anyone know if I am allowed to post it, or do I need permission?

you can't post any links on the BB forums.... (bummer)
but... you could write down the 'key words' that we could type into google...

If you want a great book of nursery rhymes, try the one by Kady Denton MacDonald. (sp?)
My daughter has had is out of the library MANY times, and we still love it.
Also, for something really cute, and a little different, try the books by A.A. Milne - "When We Were Very Young" and "Now We are Six".
The website I was talking about (see post above) you can come up with by searching for "kididdles".
Another great site for tots you can find by googling "kneebouncers".
Have a great day!

A mouse lived in a windmill in old Amsterdam
A windmill with a mouse in
And he wasn't grousin'
He sang every morning
"How lucky I am
"Living in a windmill in old Amsterdam"

I saw a mouse!
Where?
There on the stair!
Where on the stair?
Right there!
A little mouse with clogs on, well I declare
Going "clip-clipity-clop" on the stair.
Right there.

The mouse he got lonesome and took him a wife
A windmill with mice in
it's hardly surprisin'
She sang every morning
"How lucky I am
"Living in a windmill in old Amsterdam!"

I saw a mouse!
Where?
There on the stair!
Where on the stair?
Right there!
A little mouse with clogs on, well I declare
Going "clip-clipity-clop" on the stair.
Right there.

First they had triplets and then they had twins
A windmill with twins in
Triplets and twins in!
They sang every morning
"How lucky we am
"Living in a windmill in old Amsterdam!"

I saw a mouse!
Where?
There on the stair!
Where on the stair?
Right there!
A little mouse with clogs on, well I declare
Going "clip-clipity-clop" on the stair.
Right there.

A mouse lived in a windmill, so snug and so nice
There's nobody there now but a whole lot of mice.

These are great! The only problem is that I've had "5 Little Ducks" stuck in my head lately and have been singing it all the time at work over the last few days - resulting in more than a few strange looks from my workmates and patients. One of the girls at work overheard me in the shower and popped her head in to say that she hadn't heard that one since she was little.

I need a new tune in my head...

I like the AA Milne stuff, my mum used to read it to me when I was little.

I especially like the one that starts 'halfway down the stairs is the stair where I sit"

Milo loves 'there were 5 in the bed' at the moment. He can't do the action for roll over though, and instead he twirls both his wrists seperately, its so cute!

Now I have that in my head, Rachael! Here it is for those wondering:

Halfway down the stairs is the stair where I sit
There isn't any other stair quite like it
It's not at the bottom
It's not at the top
So this is the stair where I always stop.

Halfway up the stairs isn't up and isn't down
It isn't in the nursery, it isn't in the town
And all sorts of funny thoughts
Run through my head
It isn't really anywhere, it's somewhere else instead.

Do you know They're Changing Guard at Buckingham Palace? Must confess I don't like that, but I'll be singing it tonight now LOL.

Three Tom Cats

Not last night but the night before
Three tom cats came knocking at the door
I opened the door
and I let them in
they knocked me down
with a rolling pin
one had a bugle, one had a drum
and one had a pancake stuck to his bum!

She fell into the bathtub (substitute he as required)

She fell into the bathtub
she fell into the sink
she fell into the rasperry jam
and came out pink

We put her in the backyard
And left her in the rain
by half past supper time
It washed her clean again

mum used to read us this, huddled under the doona/blanket. The true version is a lot longer, this is mums version. DS loves it!

Hist! Hark!
The night is very dark
And we must go a mile or so
Across the possum park

Step.
Light
Keeping to the right
if we delay or lose out way
We'll be out half the night
Moooh-poke!

Who was that, that spoke?
this is not a funny place
To play a silly joke!

Hush little baby dont say a word
papas gonna buy you a mocking bird
and if that mocking bird wont sing
papas gonna buy you a diamond ring
and if that diamond ring is brass
papas gonna by you a looking glass
and if that looking glass gets broke
papas gonna buy you a billy goat
and if that billy goat wont pull
papas gonna buy you a cart and bull
and if that cart and bull turn over
papas gonna buy you a dog named rover
and if that dog named rover wont bark
papas gonna buy you a horse and cart
and if that horse and cart fall down
you'll still be the sweetest little baby in town

thats anne murrays version anyway

heres another by anne that my daughter loves
its called sleep child

sleep child and when you do
dream a dream to drift you through the night that lingers through the day
tonight if dreams are few i'll sing this lullaby for you
sleep child for dreams always come true
lullaby and goodnight may sleep softly surround you
why your dreams fill your eyes with a melody of love
may the moonlight embrace you
and the starlight caress you
may the sunlight still sing you this lullaby of love

Wow - all the new nursery rhymes I have to sing that's fantastic.

A couple of others we sing:

(daycares version of twinkle twinkle)
Twinkle twinkle little star,
Daddy drives a motor car (or racing car),
push the button, pull the choke
and drive off in a cloud of smoke,
twinkle twinkle little star

London Bridge
London bridge is falling down
falling down, falling down
London bridge is falling down,
My fair lady

Build it up with iron bars,
iron bars, iron bars
build it up with iron bars,
my fair lady.

iron bars will bend and break
bend and break, bend and break
iron bars will bend and break
my fair lady

it goes on to use loads of other verses, some of which are:
"Build it up with needles and pins"
"Pins and needles rust and bend"
"Build it up with penny loaves"
"Penny loaves will tumble down"
"Build it up with silver and gold"

Georgie Porgie
Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie
Kissed the girls and made them cry,
when the boys came out to play,
Georgie Porgie ran away

Teddy Bear Teddy Bear (we sing this one in the pool)
Teddy bear, teddy bear touch your nose
teddy bear, teddy bear splash your toes (sitting on the side of the pool)
teddy bear, teddy bear turn around (turn around on the wall)
teddy bear, teddy bear touch the ground (go under water and come back up to wall)
