Default How young can you take a baby swimming ?

I was just wondering about the safety of th chlorinated water in indoor heated pools, or pools in general ? I just think about DD swallowing water and just contact with chlorine and her skin ?

I used to take my kidlets swimming quite young. Just make sure you rinse them off with fresh water afterward and maybe a bit of moisturizer.

I am sure she will let you know when she has had enough

Hi,
I am a baby swimming instructor, more like playschool in the water teacher.

I have babies as young as 4 months come through.
Our policy is to not let these babies be submerged till 6 months onwards.

My three children all started lessons at around 6 months. My two boys have very sensitive skin so we always rinse off and wash straight after a lesson in the showers.

we took our daughter swimming when she was 2 months old and swimming lessons from 4 months. If you are going to take her swimming bear in mind that even if the water is warm she will lose body heat very quickly, so make it short, give her a warm shower/ bath after and rug her up nice toasty warm when you're done.

Our hossie physio dept runs post natal water aerobics. Mums take babies in the pool for 15 minutes and do rhymes, then hop out, rinse off under shower, change, feed, settle, then mums hop back in for some exercise. They can go from 6 weeks old. DS & I started about 2 months. I got him a rashie to wear to keep in warm in the pool even though it was heated. We started proper swimming lessons at Stateswim when he was 7 months.

It's great, being in the water is so relaxing!
