hello everyone I am after unsusal or uncommon boy baby names all suggestions welcome also is there a website that you can put a meaning in and the names will come up in different languages?

My DS (4) name is Manessah (MAN-ess-AH) - it's a varied spelling of Manasseh, which is a biblical name and means 'to cause to forget'. Hubby grew up in PNG and had a good friend with the same name and always wanted to call one of our sons the same...took me a good 7 years to come around to it, but we love it now.

This bub - if he ever comes out - is Jediah (JED-EYE-AAH) - again, another biblical name, but a variant of Jedidiah.

We have lots of people wondering where on earth we get these 'new' and 'unusual' names, but they're just names we heard over the years and loved...and it turns out they're some of the oldest names around

I saw a male name on the credits of a Asian show tonight - " Toru ", which i like .. but might look like Tofu (??)

If i was a boy my Mum was going to call me " Kenton "

When we were searching for Aricyn's name - we typed in "unusual baby names" in google, and there are heaps of sites that come up.

So try that.

Or just name him Aricyn.

I really liked Banjora, although DP was never going to agree to it had we had another boy it's an Aboriginal name - lots of cool Aboriginal names on the web It was important to me to have at least one child with an Aboriginal element to their name, though I'm not Aboriginal!

Hi there,

My son's name is Tadhg - pronnounced "Ti-y-G" like tiger without the "er".

It's a very old Celtic name and not so uncommon in Ireland these days.

It is a really strong, masculine name - which suits him and we love it although we get a lot of flack about the spelling from adults... too old to learn new tricks? We find some adults think we are saying Ty or Tiger but nearly all kids get it first time around.

I love Tadhg - DP panned it both times and said he couldn't have a name he couldn't spell...but he's a notoriously bad speller (there would appear to be neurological reasons for this, though!), so I don't see why that was such a big objection! Plus, I told him that the kid would know how to spell it and other kids at school would adapt really quickly. I have an 'unusual' name and for all the things I could have and did get teased for at school, my name was not one of them, and kids knew how to say it every time - it was dumb teachers who would end up calling me "Miss K" when reading the roll for the first time, and all the kids would help him or her out! Anyhow, I have a lovely cousin called Tadhg (in Ireland - all my cousins from that family have old Irish names, as my uncles and grandfather were from Kerry and very much celtophiles!). It's a pity that a first cousin who came to live here (the ONLY cousin who came to live here, who is my age) decided to call her friggin dog Tadhg before it came time to fall pregnant herself, thus taking the name from both of us because of her dog! BTW, my cousin of the same name is both of our cousin, so I thought it a bit rude, regardless of taking it from us as an option. Though, as I said, DP didn't consider it an 'option', anyway, poo to him!

We wanted a strong boys name that wasnt too common, unfortunately good friends of ours used the name, (didnt realise they had heard it from us )

we are currently thinking Archer (archie for short when he is little) what do you think? is it too strange for an adult? and if he ends up being a red head would that be wrong?

DH wants to use Orion (im worried about teasing)
otherwise Spencer is an option

My DS is called Jambin. We're pretty sure he's the only one, so it's definitely uncommon. It's an aboriginal word from Central Qld meaning echidna. Also the name of a small town in Central Qld.

OH I love Archer and it's our number one choice if this bub is blue! Someone else mentioned Axel which is DS MN although we spelt it Axl..

I like Torren - there was a boy in our swimming class with this name when DS was a baby and I loved it! His mum had a Scandinavian name, too, so it was really nice to hear both their names when being introduced. Actually, now that I've written that, I hope that's the effect DD and I have when being introduced
