picking a name. there are a few "family" names floating around but wanted to get an opinion on a name that "dad" likes: MADDEN

I think it sounds cool, only prob would be if people shorten it to the nickname 'Maddy' which is a bit girly... apart from that I like it

pronounced: mad-den, i guess kinda like angelina jolie's son maddox but with en instead of ox...

thanks miskilla, i thought the same thing too, but then i thought about boys named matthew and they get "matty" which when you say "matty" and "maddy" they pretty much sound the same - love that you like it, our options are currently few and far between!

Like Benji & Joel Madden from Good Charlotte

I have a friend with a 9 month old little man named Madden. I really like it. He gets called Madd (not like the angry sort of mad, said with just the en taken off the name IYKWIM).

... and its a name that I have considered. I always find a name and think of a nickname, and my exact thoughts are "maddy" which sounds like "matty".

Good Luck coming up with the 'perfect' name that you both agree on.

I like it, I like unusual names though so maybe why.

I have asked DH about it myself as I'm expecting a boy but we came to the conclusion
it was too close to our Daughter sounding wise - Shes Maddison (which was unusual in the UK before migrating to AUS, loads of them here!!)

But I thinkits a cool, funky name.

Good luck deciding.

" Madden " ... WOW i really, really like it ... BUT my only concern would be if it got shortened by others to Mad (like as in crazy) or sound similar to Madam (??)

... Could the spelling be changed ?? ... (how lovely would it be that his Grandfather had some imput to his name, would make it extra special )

hi smiles,

thanks for your reply, i guess it's all going to come down to gut instinct on the day! My mum always said (after 4 of us) that you'll know when they get here, apparently we "looked" like our names, lol.

except my brother... he was meant to be a girl... Tahlee.. he ended up a michael - suits him much better!

Doesn't sound girlie to me, but that's cause I thought of the good Charlotte boys when I read it. Much better than Sparrow

I agree with CharlieBrownGirl, Maddy sounds like Matty to me.

It's a groovy name but I guess that because it's a little like a surname then you would have to make sure it sounds like a first name when matched with your surname iykwim...

I just asked my DH and he said "oh what 'mad-one'?", he he he...I didn't think of that, it's even groovier now!!

I love Madden! It's different and not too common yet.

It's one of the names I suggested but DH didn't like it. He is insisting on Jaggar if we have a boy and I cannot for the life of me talk him out of it!

Maybe if you want to avoid people thinking you named him after Good Charlotte try changing the spelling, perhaps Maddan or Maddon instead? We did that with ours because of the whole Rolling Stones thing.

:good luck:
